About the blood
cylon-productions30 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This is not as much a review as it is a theory.

I did the same thing on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode 'Halloween'

A lot of people have noticed that in this episode, when Angel and Fred touch Jasmine's blood, they need to see her before they see what she truly is! However, Gunn, Wesley and Lorne just know right after they are given the blood.

Here's my theory: Angel and Fred got the blood from Jasmine, but Gunn, Wesley and Lorne got it from Cordy. Cordy already knew the identity of Jasmine, because Jasmine was controlling her. That would explain why they knew immediately.

About the episode: This is a great episode. It has Fred as it's main character, which is a cool change.

And it's funny Angel once again sings Mandy, even if it is a slightly different version

Fred Gets Reinforcements
Samuel-Shovel12 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In "The Magic Bullet", the gang pursues Fred the heretic as she tries to figure out how to make them see things her way. After spending time hiding with a demon who eventually bites her, she figures out the mixture of blood between herself and Jasmine was what caused her to see Jasmine in her true appearance. She sets up a trap to meet Jasmine. She shoots the creature, the bullet passing through and hitting Angel as well. The mixture of the blood causes Angel to see the light as well. Him and Fred take off. They sneak into Cordy's room and slit her wrist, eventually using this to turn Lorne, Gunn, and Wes. They attempt to use this tactic to turn Connor as well but for some reason (possibly because he's the father) it doesn't seem to work. He sounds the alarm as the episode ends.

You know... I kind of like this little string of episodes we have here towards the end of Season 4. I'm not sure what the low ratings are all about. I love the Fred-centered episode, her against the world. I like the logic of the plot, using Cordy as the mother to help change the rest of the gang. I thought it was well-paced as well.

Of course it has to be the little brat Connor that ruins everything though. He's always mucking something up and this episode is no different. The real question now though is how do they defeat this creature that has brainwashed the world?

I have 37 cats, and I've just changed all their names to Jasmine
SleepTight66613 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I have 37 cats, and I've just changed all their names to Jasmine - The real beginning of the fabulous Jasmine-arc, it pretty much makes me forgive all the flaws in the previous episode. First of all, the teaser was fantastic with that happy music and everyone getting along, until 'Fred' bumps into a car and is running away from her friends who are hunting her down. The body-snatching was also very impressive, and extremely cool. Like when 'Jasmine' got into all those people whom tried to get a hold of 'Fred', especially when that guy in the car got on flames was nifty. My favorite scene, is like most people, when she shoots 'Jasmine' and the bullet goes right through her into 'Angel', the blood makes 'Angel' snap out of it and see 'Jasmine's true face. Another scene I highly enjoyed was open-mic night, with 'Connor' and 'Angel' singing together. The episode was simply great, I can see why it's one of Joss Whedon's favorites. ANGEL: You did the right thing, Fred. It took a lot of courage. It must've been hard for you. FRED: I'm sorry. I've been so alone and scared. I'm not like you, not a champion. ANGEL: Everything I see says different. (9.5 out of 10)

My favorite Jasmine episode
katierose2956 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This is my favorite episode of the Jasmine story line. It really shows the extent of her power and leaves Fred to face it one-on-one. It's nice to see Fred standing up and being the Champion for once. Anyway, this is the episode that frees Team Angel from Jasmine's thrall and gives us a better understanding of her dark side. All in all, it's a fun episode and I recommend that you see it.

The episode revolves around Jasmine's growing power. All of LA is under her "loving" control and people are moving into the Hyperion just to be near her. The Divine Miss J is pleased with her worshipers and, it turns out, snacking on them whenever she feels a bit peckish. Nobody seems to mind her complete domination, except Fred. Fred's trying to do research on mass hypnosis at a conspiracy themed bookshop. She's also avoiding Team Angel, who are trying to capture her. When Jasmine uses her growing powers to spy on Fred through the eyes of her followers, Fred has to hide in the woods outside of town. She runs into a evil little demon, kills him, sees the blood and then gets a new idea.

Fred goes back to the book store and waits for Jasmine to find her. When Jasmine shows up with Angel and Conner, Fred shoots her. The bullet goes through Jasmine and into Angel. He tackles Fred, prepared to kill her. She tells him to look at Jasmine and, when he does, he sees her true rotting face. The spell broken, Angel staggers back in shock. Jasmine realizes that her blood cures people. She tells Conner that Angel & Fred are infected and need to be destroyed. Fred shoots Jasmine again and Angel gets them to safety.

Angel & Fred sneak back into the Hyperion looking for Cordy. Jasmine's birth put her in a coma and she's resting in one of the rooms. Angel tells Cordy how sorry he is, then he cuts her arm and drains some of her blood. Since Cordy is Jasmine's "mother" they think that it might be able to cure the others. Sure enough, they've soon saved Wes, Gunn and Lorne. But when they try and cure Conner something goes wrong. Instead of agreeing that Jasmine is evil and needs to be stopped, he shouts for Jasmine's followers to come and stop Team Angel.

There are some great parts to this episode. I love the book store owner. Especially, his line: "There's not a big demand for picture books of serial killer autopsies photos when you're living in a Utopian wonderland." It's such a silly sentence that I doubt that anyone else has ever put those words together like that before. And I like the first scenes of the episode, with the Beach Boys playing and everyone being so happy. Then Fred comes running through traffic, trying to escape Gunn and Wes. Plus, the ice cream truck and playground seems like an homage to BTVS season four's "Restless" which is cool. And that scene where Jasmine can see Fred through the eyes of her followers is just down right spooky. I like that Fred is the one driving the action in the episode, but I feel sorry for her as she tries to figure out what to do on her own. I'm always happy when she frees Angel from the spell and they can save the rest of Team Angel. I have to laugh at Lorne's horror at finding out that Jasmine's a fake. "You cut my one wrist and now I wanna slice open the other one." Finally, I love all the miscellaneous people staying at the Hyperion. It's so funny to see them praisin' Jasmine right there in the lobby.

On the down side, the finger-eating demon just seems like a way to keep Fred busy for a few scenes. Also, how are Wes, Gunn and Lorne cured without looking at Jasmine? Fred & Angel had to see her face before they understood and believed the truth.

My favorite part of the episode: Conner and Angel singing at duet of "Mandy," switching it to Jasmine's name. ("Oooh, Jazz-minnn...") I have never laughed so hard at anything in my life as I did when I saw that scene for the first time.

Fred the champion
limetalhead3 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
For the first time we see Fred's inner strength. She has come so far from the scared and depressed girl Angel rescued from Pylea. Having to be alone again and knowing the whole world is against her was so similar to her situation in Pylea yet she remained strong throughout the whole ordeal. To have the idea that Jasmine's blood may be the cure to her spell and shooting Jasmine and Angel shows how she was able to overcome her fears and doubts. Angel's idea of using Cordy's blood to cure the rest made sense once explained. When giving the cure, was anyone really shocked by Connor's response. He had always been a little bastard since we first saw him and I never trusted him in any fashion.

Best line of the show: Tonight the role of Judas Iscariot will be played by Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan. Just hearing Lorne call himself by his real name was priceless.

Fred vs The World
Joxerlives31 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
THE MAGIC BULLET

The Good; All of open mic night is classic but Connor and Angel singing 'Oh Jasmine' to the tune of Mandy is so funny it makes me want to lie on the floor kicking my legs in the air with laughter! Whatever they paid to use the Beach Boys it's well worth it.

The Bad; So Fred just happens to fall down a slope and into a demon's lair who gives her the idea for defeating Jasmine? I guess we could just put this down to the PTBs. Personally I find the demon scenes boring and gross. Why doesn't Fred try to blow Jasmine's head off? The mind control books seem to burn very fast.

Best line; Angel; "Someone has to go and get Connor" Wes; "I'll do it. After all I've kidnapped him before"

Jeez, how did they get away with that? Finger food and religious zealots on fire!

Kinky dinky: The couple who spot Fred at the motel appear to be an amazingly voluptuous hooker and her trick, even Jasmine can't stop the world's oldest profession. Fred kisses Angel. Angel kisses a sleeping CC (aaaawwwwww!).

Captain Subtext; Lorne says that Jasmine 'Walked off the street and came into my ass' then hurriedly explains that's where his heart is.

Know the face, different character; 4

Parking garages; 6,

Guantanamo Bay; Actually Jasmine is correct, Lee Harvey Oswald did act alone when he killed Kennedy. Holtz used to tie Connor to a tree and then Connor would have to free himself and track Holtz down. Talk about tough love!

Buffy characters on Angel; 16 Wetherby, Collins and Smith. Angel, Cordy, Oz, Spike, Buffy, Wes, Faith, Darla, Dru, The Master, Anne, Willow and Harmony

What the fanficcers thought; Not much, paradise on earth actually pretty boring

Questions and observations; Lovely idea that the woman Gunn and Wes mistake for Fred got her first ever TV job on Angel, I would have pegged her for AA's stand in. The bookseller rather reminds of the character of Denver from season 2 and Hank Azaria. Lorne refers to himself as Judas just as Lilah said Wes was. Love Lorne's baseball bat. Does CC get paid just to come in to work and lie down and go to sleep? When Jasmine's not at the hotel her power over AI seems to fade a little. You wonder if Angel got his CC's blood idea from Buffy and Dawn in 'The Gift'? When CC grabs Angel's hand is Fred telling him the truth about coma patients involuntary movements or just telling him what she need's him to hear? It's a small line in a big show but Angel seems to finally have forgiven Wes over the whole Connor kidnap. Possibly the longest ep of Angel ever at nearly 42 minutes

Marks out of 10; 7/10 I think
