The comparison between jasmine flowers and vampires had been made before, in I Only Have Eyes for You (1998) by Angelus and in The Trial (2000) by Darla.
As a sign of how shiny and happy he is, Angel appears not in his usual dark shirt, but, very unusually, in a buttoned shirt with white and yellow stripes.
This episode demonstrates, though does not state, the power of Jasmine's blood to reveal her true form. Both Fred and Stoler (the restaurant patron who attacked Jasmine) were exposed; Fred to the blood on Jasmine's sweater, which she scrubbed until her own fingers bled, and Stoler to the blood on the vampire's claws before Angel could stake him.
This episode makes a reference to the short amount of time during which season four takes place. An exchange of dialogue between Fred and Lorne mentions that it's been a "busy month", with the implication that it has been a month since Lilah Morgan's death in Calvary (2003). The revelation in Players (2003) however, and the short time pacing within the episodes (at least until this one) suggest that Lorne is referring to the events of the entire season, at the very least since Apocalypse, Nowish (2002).
