- TriviaTim Minear says this episode is fundamentally about "body horror." Originally, it was written in a more comedic style, but Joss Whedon insisted the writers "should play [it] straight." Minear says this episode begins to show Wesley as being "more than he appeared to be on Buffy", as well as demonstrating that the members of Angel Investigations are forming a family.
- GoofsPossessed and pregnant, Cordelia drinks blood from Angel's pitcher and it runs down her front, then she wipes the blood from her mouth with her sleeve. From the point that she knocks Wesley out with the book to the end of the episode, the blood is missing from her clothes, though she doesn't ever change.

Featured review
It is not liked by most, to say the least. But I don't care. I like it, it's funny and creepy at the same time. An homage to both Rosemary's baby and Alien. This is also where the show seems to be finding its pace and tone. I always preferred the second half of season one. The first had interesting episodes, but Doyle never really grows on me. And after reading about the actor, it is clear his leaving the show wasn't an artistic choice. Season 1B, is the one I owned on VHS first, because I couldn't wait to watch the « Faith » crossover episodes. So it also has a personal meaning for me. Expecting, is kind of a relief after this boring episode, where Jeremy Renner was introduced. It's the first real Cordelia centric episode, and she was a great character back then. Too bad that didn't last. The monster looks ridiculous, but not in a way it ruined it for me. Season one is my third favorite, after two and four, but this episode is one that showed how easily entertaining the series can be.
