Lindsey gets an episode
katierose29520 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I really like Lindsey. I think he's one of the shows most complex and interesting characters. He's got a cool "gray" quality that makes him sort of sympathetic no matter what he does. A part of me is always hoping that Lindsey will succeed and, somehow, become a better person. He'll be a recurring character throughout the series and "Blind Date" is the first episode that really shows his conflicted nature. Lindsey wants to be Wolfram and Hart's evil golden boy... But, a part of him still knows the difference between right and wrong. This episode also introduces the Shanshu Prophesy, which will motivate Angel right into season five and Holland Matters, another Wolfrum and Hart lawyer who will play a bigger role next season. If you're watching the show, you really should see this episode.

"Blind Date" revolves around Lindsey. Wolfram and Hart has hired a blind assassin to kill some magical children. This woman has deliberately given up her sight as part of her mystical training as a hit-man. Holland Matters, a Wolfram and Hart big shot, puts Lindsey in charge of ensuring that she can carry out her job. Lindsey's certainly willing to to some evil things, but the idea of killing children upsets him. He goes to Angel for help.

Angel is skeptical of Lindsey sudden change of heart, but he agrees to help protect the kids. The two of them, with Gunn's help, break into Wolfram and Hart to find out more information on the children. While Angel is stealing discs they'll need, he sees an ancient scroll. It calls to him for some reason, so he takes it, too. Angel and Gunn escape Wolfram and Hart, but Lindsey is caught up in a psychic sweep. Cordy calls Willow for help and they decode the discs in time to save the children. Meanwhile, Wes realizes that the scroll that Angel stole has something to do with the "vampire with a soul's" ultimate destiny. Lindsey thinks that Wolfram and Hart will kill him, but they decide that he has potential and promote him instead. Lindsey accepts the new job, opting to stay on the dark side.

There are some good parts to this episode. I like that Cordy called Willow for computer help. It's a realistic way to go about breaking encoded discs, since Willow's BTVS's computer expert. And it's nice of Will to take time out of fighting Adam to lend Cordy a hand. Also, I really like Lindsey, so I'm glad we get to understand more about his background. And it's pretty funny watching the gang get into Wolfram and Hart. Gunn tosses a vampire into the lobby to fool the vampire detectors and starts this big show ("So, it's true. Evil white folks really do have a Mecca."), meanwhile Lindsey distracts the security guy watching the video monitors, and Angel sneaks into the vault with the help of magic demon knock-out powder from Wes. It's just a cool plan. And, even though I wish that Lindsey could join the White Hats, I do like the final scene of him accepting the job at Wolfram and Hart. The first time I saw this episode, I was expecting him to walk out the doors to the office. Instead, he closed them... with himself still inside. In a way, shutting those doors starts Lindsey's journey down a dark path. He cuts off his last avenue of escape, burns his bridges with Angel Inc. and dooms himself.

On the down side, was Lee an idiot or what? Trying to leave Wolfram and Hart and take clients to a competitor!? Geez,doesn't he know who he's working for? He's lucky he died so easy. Also, a part of me wishes that Angel had worked a little harder to keep Lindsey on the good side. Maybe things would have worked out differently...

My favorite part of the episode: Lindsey explaining his tragic childhood to Angel. He goes on and on about his brother and sisters dying because his family was so poor, his father losing the farm and his own quest to succeed so he'd never know that kind of poverty again. It's actually pretty sad. Angel just pretends to nod off, then says, "Oh, sorry. Did you get to the part where you're evil, yet?" I laugh every time I see it.

Lindsey, haven't you learned anything? No one has their own life. We're all part of something larger

Warning: Spoilers
Lindsey, haven't you learned anything? No one has their own life. We're all part of something larger - A nice episode right before the first season finale. We got to see more of Wolfram & Hart, especially of the character 'Lindsey' who wanted out. 'Holland Manners' (Sam Anderson) also made his first appearance, I love his line right after he ordered the guard to kill 'Lee' - What a pity. You can't get that out of the carpet. Believe me, we've tried. The 'monster' of the episode was a blind woman, a pretty interesting villain. I've never considered 'Lindsey' to be a bad guy, nor a good guy. He's kind of in between, the only thing that he cares about is power so at the end of the episode he decides to stay because 'Holland' offered him his office. Neat episode, great camera work. LINDSEY: I guess it's fair to say that you've never seen anything like real poverty. I'm talking dirt poor -- no shoes, no toilet. Six of us kids in a room, and come flu season it went down to four. I was seven when they took the house. They just came right in and took it. And my daddy's being nice, you know? Joking with the bastards while he signs the deed. So, yeah, so we had a choice. Either you got stepped on or you got to steppin', and I swore to myself that I was not going to be the guy standing there with the stupid grin on my face, while my life got dribbled out. ANGEL: I'm sorry. I nodded off. Did you get to the part where you're evil?. (9.0 out of 10)

The great Sam Anderson
Joxerlives15 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The Good;

Lindsay's dilemma and Angel's solution to it. The final battle. Best of all though has to be Gunn's entrance to WR&H, one day he'll have a very different persepctive. The mind-reader line up is also a winner.

The Bad;

Would WR&H really be so forgiving of Lindsey?

Best line:

Cordy; "Are you telling me self-mutilating psycho assassin chick reached enlightenment?"

Jeez, how did they get away with that?

Angel shows remarkably little sympathy for Lindsey's story of his dead sibling but then he was from the Georgian age where most kids didn't make it out of infancy. Killing Lee is horrible, scumbag though he is, even Lilah has a horrified reaction to it, suggesting the woman beneath the mask.

Apocalypses: 4

Inverting the Hollywood cliché; In every other genre handicapped people are inspirational, of course in the Jossverse they're EVIL!

In disguise; 4

DB get's his shirt off; 7

Cordy's tattoo;3

Cheap Angel; 4

Fang Gang in bondage: Cordy: 5 Angel: 8 Wes: 2

Fang gang knocked out: Cordy: 9 Angel: 10 Wes: 4 Doyle; 1

Kills: Cordy: 3 vamps, 1 demons Angel: 2 vamps and one human so 16 vamps, 10 and 1/2 demons, 3 humans. Doyle; 1 vamp Wes; 1/2 a demon Kate; 3 vamps Faith; 16 vamps, 6 demons, 3 humans.

Fang Gang go evil: Cordy: 2 Angel: 2

Alternate Fang Gang: Cordy: 2 Angel: 6

Characters killed: 25

Recurring characters killed; byebye Lee although he's evil so screw him 2;

Total number of Angel Investigations: 3, Angel and Cordy and Wes

Angel Investigations shot: Angel: 8,

Packing heat; Wes; 2 Doyle; 1 Angel; 1

Notches on Fang Gang bedpost: Cordy: 2 ?+Wilson/Hacksaw Beast Angel: 1;Buffy

Kinky dinky: Lee asks Lindsey does he find the assassin sexy, you get the impression they both do

Captain Subtext; Holland really does treat Lindsey like he's his son or something.

Know the face, different character; 2

Parking garages; 4,

Buffy characters on Angel; 11, Cordy talks to Willow here but we don't see her. She says hello to Wes, AH and AD having just married Wetherby, Collins and Smith. Angel, Cordy, Oz, Spike, Buffy, Wes, Faith, Darla

Questions and observations; Vanessa Brewer is actually played by CC's stunt double, always nice when that happens (LL's stunt double on Xena would go on to play a recurring characters in the show). This also marks the entrance of the great Sam Anderson as Holland. Angel kills another human and has very little remorse about doing so, very different from Buffy. The scroll refers to the 'vampire with the soul', ostensibly Angel but by season 5 maybe Spike too?

Marks out of 10; 8/10, good ep

Lindsey: I get myself killed, that'll convince you I've changed? Angel: It's a start.
bombersflyup18 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Blind Date is about Lindsey questioning his loyalties and seeking Angel's help to stop a blind assassin.

Similar to the previous episode, venturing into unwanted territory, however providing more scope. Lindsey flip-flops, because of a pay increase and well because he knows he's only alive because they allowed him to be. Angel extracts the scroll containing his destiny, which will be expanded upon next episode. Angel here, shows early glimpses of overwhelming rage about to boil over. Other than that it's pretty empty.
