Ballistic Barney
lmcsrbfl5 August 2015
This is the ONE Andy Griffith Show episode in which Deputy Barney Fife(Don Knotts) proves his point. Barney vehemently complains to Andy how the local Mayberry Security Bank is a 'targeted crackerbox, anyone can rob the bank at free will because of no security measures, also cash drawers wipe open in plain sight and open bank vault door open. He really gets on edge when the moronic bank manager, dimwitted teller Harriet and really sleepy bank guard don't take Barney seriously,he even growls at Andy to the point Deputy Fife disguises himself as cleaning lady and steals cash from vault to prove his point. Barney lashes to everyone involved "When will you ever learn"?!

Sure enough the Mayberry Secutity Bank is held up,Andy,Harriet and Mildren believe its Barney but they're wrong. However Andy manages to capture the robber and Barney just happens to be outside giving his accomplice numerous parking tickets not knowing a Real bank robbery took place. Still today Deputy Barney Fife doesn't receive enough respect.'Its as simple as that.

One of AGS's FunniestMoments

Warning: Spoilers
To show th lack of security at the Mayberry Security Bank, Barney dons a matronly woman outfit pretending to be the janitor's sister, and get's himself locked in the bank vault. When he breaks out of the vault, crashing through the wall of the next door beauty salon (in his ridicuous flowered hat and cotton print dress), the woman under he hair dryer, reading a magazine, barely looks up, and says, matter of factly, "Hello Barney, on a case?" I can't explain why this is so hysterically funny, but it's just one memorable moment in an episode filed with them.

Fife rants and raves but he's the hero in the end
mloessel31 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
There are times when Deputy Fife's ranting and raving about a concern turns out to be spot on right. 'The Bank Job' is one such episode. While in the Mayberry Bank he observes the teller's cash door is left wide open and the vault door is opened and no one is keeping a guard on it. This concerns Fife and he brings this to Andy's attention. Andy, the bank manager and teller ignore his concerns. Eventually the bank gets robbed and the robber grabs the security guard's gun (the gun doesn't work). Long story short the gun falls apart in the robber's hand and he's quickly apprehended. Deputy Fife makes his point and is a hero.

Glenn Ford He Ain't

Barney goes to see a movie and that sets in motion his efforts to tighten up security in Mayberry, starting with the bank. The place really is a cracker box but no one listens. So Barney tries several ways to make people up and take notice. He is at his manic best here, trying to make Mayberry comparable to the big cities. He is feature from beginning to end.

If Oscar The Grouch made your lunch

Warning: Spoilers
This is a great episode- one of my favorites because of the side banter between Barney and Asa about his old gun with green bullets. I also like that everyone knows that Barney will go to any length to get his point across. But I would just ask this one puzzling question about this episode: What in the holy heck is this God-awful meal that Andy suggested for Barney to have at lunch?

I can't remember it all but it was something like "get you a hollowed out tomato stuffed with avocado and raisins". This is pure puke but Andy said it was goooooooood. At least he had a sweet tea to wash it down, right ? Nope, lemon phosphate. Dear God in Heaven. Next you will tell me he had a big piece of pure lard pie for dessert.

Introduction of Gomer, and Asa.
vitoscotti15 April 2022
Strong episode with Al Checco as Howie the bank robber. He'll be in "If I Had a Quarter Million" episode as Hennessy which will be even better. Charles Thompson (Asa), and Jim Nabors (Gomer) first of many strong appearances. Wonder if mixing up Glenn Ford with James Cagney is intentional or not? Very good epilogue. This time mixing up Barney's name Fife for Fike which never gets old is always funny.
