A better than average clip-show

Before starting this review I must point out that I missed the very start of this episode; perhaps just seconds, at most a minute or two. Because of this the start of my plot description is based on the plot summary posted here.

As Dylan prepares to transport his former first officer, Gaheris Rhade's, body back to his pride something strange happens. Gaheris appears in front of the Tesseract Machine intending to destroy it (the point I started watching). Trance warns him not to do so. It appears that we are now in an alternate reality where Gaheris killed Dylan rather than the other way round. Via a series of flashbacks we are shown several key moments from the series so far and see how they play out differently with Gaheris in command.

This episode may have featured many clips from old episodes in the flashback scenes but these were seamlessly connected to newly shot material showing how each incident went differently without Dylan in command. I like the fact that Rhade wasn't portrayed as a total villain; in fact after he and the Andromeda are pulled out of the vicinity of the black hole by the Maru his motivations aren't that different to Dylan's. I also liked how in this reality, instead of creating the android Rommie Harper creates a hologram of Dylan who acts as friend and adviser to Rhade while playing go with him. The events revisited were interesting highlights and the way reality, with Dylan in command, was reset was handled in a good way. Guest star Steve Bacic did a solid job as Rhade, making him a more sympathetic character than I had expected. Overall I wouldn't say this was a great episode; I would say it was a good episode though... certainly better than I expected it would be.
