As this episode opens Andromeda's crew receive their post; Dylan gets a package and immediately prepares to set off on a secret mission with Harper, who is kept in the dark about what is happening. He goes to meet a contact but somebody has got their first and killed him... soon Dylan is on the run accused of the murder. It turns out that Dylan his one of the 'The Shards of Rimni', as did the dead man. There are five such shards and legend has it that when brought together they form an artefact that grants great power so not surprisingly a few people are after it and they are willing to kill to get it. Dylan is determined that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Meanwhile it seems that every ship in the New Commonwealth is after Dylan and believe he must be on Andromeda despite Beka assuring them that he isn't... at least while they are chasing Andromeda they aren't likely to catch Dylan.
This episode is solid if not one of the most memorable; having Dylan on the run while looking for near mystical artefacts make it feel as if the writers had tried to combine the basic plots of 'The Fugitive' with 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'... perhaps the writers are Harrison Ford fans. The story provides a couple of decent villains and some exciting moments. When Harper is more of a background character he can be a bit irritating but when given a more important part of the story, as he is here, he proves to be quite fun as he gets stuck in to fights alongside Dylan. On the down side one has to wonder why Dylan, who has been campaigning for a New Commonwealth from day one, runs rather than trust the fledgling Commonwealth's legal systems... somethings just have to be put down to dramatic license if you are to enjoy the episode. I did rather like how the story ended as it featured a nice little twist that wasn't too obvious. Overall a fun, if not a classic, episode.
