Beka receives a cryptic message
Tweekums29 August 2018
As this episode opens Dylan and Beka are aboard the Eureka Maru listening to Vergil Vox on the radio; they are somewhat surprised when he plays a songs for Beka along with a cryptic message. They are somewhat distracted by an attack but later follow up on the message; which is believed to lead to something of value. It takes them to a town where strangers are feared thanks to a series of mysterious disappearances. Beka impersonates a girl who disappeared as a child and approaches her father. He accepts her and soon she is reminded of things from her own childhood. Matters are complicated by the fact that local thug Rbarton wants the secret too and is willing to use force to get it.

This was an intriguing episode. I liked the fact that Virgil Vox's radio broadcast's had featured in previous episodes of this season in an inconsequential manner; this made his message for Beka more interesting. Things continue in a nicely cryptic manner as Beka impersonates the missing girl then appears to share memories with her. As she learns the secret we are told more about the Seefra system and the Vedrans part in its creation... not that all questions are answered, in fact if anything more are raised. The story provides some decent action scenes; these include a small space battle, hand to hand fighting and finally a shootout. Lisa Ryder stands out as Beka, guest stars Don S. Davis impress as her 'father' and Noah Danby is suitably menacing as Rbarton. Overall an enjoyable episode which kept me intrigued to the end.
