The Passenger
gridoon202419 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has so much happening, there's barely a slow moment: a computer virus targeting mostly medical facilities is unleashed, and Sydney & Vaughn are sent to Berlin to locate the hacker who designed it and find out how to stop it; Sark and Bomani put Rambaldi's machine "The Telling" into action, and it delivers a message; Lauren resorts to desperate measures to prove her usefulness to the Covenant; Sydney and Jack try to convince Vaughn that his wife's behavior is suspect and that he should be more responsive to her signs of betrayal; and Sloane asks Jack to prove the existence of a super-secret organization operating inside the US government, called "The Trust", which may be Sloane's only chance to prove that his "reforming" was true and stop his execution by the CIA. Intricately plotted, tensely directed and perfectly acted, "Unveiled" may not be quite as revealing as the title promises, but it's an above-average episode - and Sydney gets a fight scene after a long time. Even Vaughn's "goth" makeover (for the Berlin trip) is convincing! *** out of 4.

Nearly caught

Warning: Spoilers
Although the CIA seems to believe that Lauren is innocent Sydney isn't so sure, unfortunately Vaughn puts this distrust down to jealousy on her part even after Sydney thinks she saw Lauren in a German night club where the man they were meeting was assassinated. The man had been involved in the creation of a computer virus that was designed to trawl through medically databases to find the DNA of The Passenger. While Lauren's attempt to stop the CIA finding what the Covenant was looking for failed she was able to steal the data back and gets a jump on the CIA. She gets to the Passenger's doctor shortly before Sydney and Vaughn and extracts her name from him and escapes. The doctor takes one look at Sydney and believes she is the woman prophesied to kill the Passenger so draws a gun, to protect her Vaughn shots him meaning they don't learn the Passenger's name. Not everything is going well for Lauren though, after her initial failure Bomani wants her killed and has ordered Sark to Dispatch her.

This was a gripping episode where it constantly looked as if Lauren would finally be exposed as a traitor only to get out of her predicament at the last moment, Melissa George does well in the role making Lauren devious one moment and apparently innocent the next. The secondary story where Sloane gets Jack to investigate a group within the government known as The Trust was also interesting, especially given what Jack did with the information he learnt. There are some good action scenes, best of which featured Sydney defeating a mace-wielding goon with a tray.
