Deeper than before

Warning: Spoilers
After preventing the literal explosion of an acclaimed humanitarian in Brazil, Sydney gets her new mission: to accompany a German chemist from Berlin to the United States, so that he can reveal secrets of his research to SD-6. But the CIA is also interested in that scientist, and, benefitting from the fact that SD-6's only photograph of him is 25 years old, they have Sydney surrendering him to them instead and they give her a CIA agent who will impersonate the scientist for SD-6. Trouble ensues when Sloane starts asking questions that the doppelganger can't answer....This episode digs deeper than the previous ones into the complexities of the spy game: should Sydney reveal to Dixon that she's a double agent? On the one hand, that could put both in serious danger. On the other, if she had done it, the shocking event that happens at the end of this episode would have been avoided. The triple intercutting between different scenes (and times) in the middle is a fantastic piece of direction, and even the subplots are more suspenseful than before, with Will meeting the non-existent (?) "Kate Jones", and Sydney learning that FBI might have been investigating her father's actions in the past. The best episode since the Pilot. *** out of 4.

Exciting with a tragic conclusion

Warning: Spoilers
At the end of the previous episode we saw a bomb being inserted into the body of a delegate at a peace conference so as this episode starts Sydney must escape from that site then, along with Dixon, get the delegate and remove the device while driving at high speed to stay out of range of the man with the detonator! With that task over they are given a new task; they are to fly to Berlin to extract a chemist who has access to files on virus research; luckily the only photo is very old and nobody at SD-6 has met him as the CIA don't want the SD-6 to get the man so they arrange a switch for one of their own agents... the problem is the man had also been expected to give the location of a prototype device; which obviously the CIA man doesn't know. Jack goes to work on the man while Sydney gets the location and transmits it to her father so he can whisper it to the poor CIA man. With the location Sydney and Dixon return to Germany to get the device; the counter-mission calls for Sydney to switch it with a fake provided by the CIA and defuse the bombs Dixon planted so the CIA can search the site. It all goes perfectly until it emerges that Dixon has brought a secondary detonator. Away from Sydney's mission Will's investigation is getting interesting at last; he has tracked down the girl he was meant to be flying with but her social security number suggests she died as a child.

This was a superior episode with far less time wasted on wondering whether Francie's boyfriend was having an affair and Will's investigation is starting to get more mysterious. The main plot was pretty exciting; starting with a thrilling chase sequence which ended with an explosion and ending with a daring raid that ended with an explosion... one that is likely to haunt Sydney for some time. The acting was solid as always; Victor Garber did a great job showing that Jack Bristow knows how to hurt people.

Suspecting sydney

Suspecting sydney

I think director of sd6 suspects sydney still, despite she completed task successfully.

I could not understand so much about his father and fbi investigation. Was he also cia at that time or only sd6? We will learn later i think. Maybe he is more dirtier than we know.

will is searching a lot, asking dangeroues questions but still they did not kill him. sd6 knows probably because they knew about daniel but i could not understand why they still did not kill him. Maybe killing him creates more complex situation so they brought Doppelgänger (which is episode name and i think that is why named) to convince will but it will make him more curios and ambitious.
