- Sherlock Holmes: What will you entitle this particular account?
- Dr. John Watson: [laughs] I didn't know you were interested in my writing.
- Sherlock Holmes: I am always interested in your choice of titles.
- Dr. John Watson: Well, I thought I'd call it "The Brook Street Mystery."
- [Holmes displays a slightly pained expression]
- Dr. John Watson: No?
- Sherlock Holmes: Well, I myself would prefer "The Resident Patient," but please do not let me influence you. "Brook Street Mystery," no doubt, will suffice.
- Sherlock Holmes: I don't suppose you've read my monograph on cigars and cigar ash?
- Inspector Lanner: [mumbles] Well, I, um...
- Sherlock Holmes: No, of course not.
- Dr. John Watson: [on the state of the room] I dare say Mrs Hudson will be a little put out when she sees all this.
- Blessington: [Shuts the lights off] Stay where you are! I'm armed and I'll shoot if you come any nearer!
- Dr Percy Trevelyan: Mr Blessington, this most outrageous, sir!
- Blessington: Doctor? Is that you?
- Dr Percy Trevelyan: Yes, it's me.
- Blessington: What about the others? Are they who they pretend to be?
- Dr Percy Trevelyan: This is Mr Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. Good God, Mr Blessington, it was you who asked me to fetch them!
