Ladies of Sherwood
Prismark1027 April 2021
This one is a drag. The Ladies of Sherwood turn out to be Robin and some of the merry men who dress up as women.

When King Richard loyalist, Arthur of Tetsbury is sentenced to death.

The Judge imposes a blockade on Nottingham to prevent Robin Hood from mounting a rescue attempt.

However women will be allowed to bring food or else The Sheriff and the Judge would starve.

This allows Robin and Will to enter but they soon find themselves in the cells.

A comedic episode but Richard Greene was not convincing in a dress.

Robin and Will Scarlet appear in drag, which alone makes this episode worth watching.

The Sheriff (hiss, boo) is going to hang a man loyal to King Richard. To prevent Robin Hood from saving him, he declares that only women will be allowed to enter or leave the city. I guess he thinks that Robin is too macho to put on woman's clothes.

There are four or five delightfully comic scenes from this classic gag scenario. Still, there is also a fair share of suspense when Robin himself gets tricked.

This episode was written and directed by Ralph Smart. Smart produced and directed many Buccaneer episodes, a sister series to Robin Hood. He also produced "Danger Man" AKA "Secret Agent Man" the best Secret Agent series ever.

Simone Lovell play Joan, a saucy wench, who helps Robin with his plan. I've seen her briefly in some other episodes and was impressed. Here she has more to do and plays her scenes wonderfully. It was nice to see another woman helping Robin, besides Maid Marian for a change. I have only seen the first 20 episodes and she has been in about four. She's in 16 episodes altogether, so I'm looking forward to the next 12 with her.
