It was stated the motorcycle race was to be held at "Indian Dunes Motorcycle Park". Indian Dunes was an actual off highway motorcycle park located in Valencia, Ca. near Magic Mountain, and the actual location of the motocross race. Malloy was riding a Husqvarna motorcycle and Skinner was riding a CZ motorcycle.
Opening this season is a new patrol vehicle for Malloy and Reed: a 1972 AMC Matador. The season 5 opening takes place during night shift. The first shot is of the dashboard of the unit lighting the "hot sheet" as Malloy and Reed answer another radio call and hang a U-turn.
This is the first appearance of Fred Stromsoe (uncredited) as Officer Jerry Woods. He'd previously appeared as suspects in crimes. He would appear once more as a suspect in Training Wheels (1972) before returning for good as Woods in Badge Heavy (1972).
Edd Byrnes and Micky Dolenz, members of the "Kings Choppers' motorcycle club, also had musical ties. Byrnes recorded a one hit wonder song "Kookie, Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb)" (Kookie the character always combing his hair that he portrayed on 77 Sunset Strip (1958)) that reached #4 on the pop record charts. Dolenz was a member of The Monkees , a music group with their own television show, the eponymously named The Monkees (1965).
