The show's first outing is a laugh-riot!

Warning: Spoilers
"France" is the third episode, and the destination for the show's first major outing. Edina takes a break from her brief career in interior design to go on holiday with Patsy. They go to the French countryside, but it's soon apparent their vacation isn't turning out as expected. They arrive to a cottage that has no food, and worse, no booze. In the mean time, Bubble is handed a paper that immediately needs Edina's signature. Edina calls Saffy for aid, and Saffy and Bubble soon arrive with groceries and wine. Patsy and Edina visit a château for some wine tasting, and later play table tennis and Monopoly with Saffy and Bubble. The holiday ends abruptly when it's realized Bubble forgot to have Edina sign the important paper, and they all leave in a hurry to go back to England. Customs puts our foursome in a holding tank when a white powdered substance is discovered in their luggage. Producer Jon Plowman has a cameo when Patsy and Edina are wine tasting at the château.

Great Brits abroad comedy

Edina and Patsy go to France on holiday.

This is a strong episode with the main characters on top form and contains a number of memorable scenes.

The plot has 'fish out of water' structure that puts two extremely useless and self-destructive central characters in a difficult setting for us to see them fall apart and have meltdowns in pretty much every situation.

Brits abroad is always a recipe for great comedy, but when it's these two you can guarantee it's going to be a shambolic, booze-fuelled disaster. This episode is full of the usual great dialogue humorous little plot twists you would expect from Jennifer Saunders.

Saunders gives another great madcap performance as Edina and is supported well by Joanna Lumley and the rest of the cast.

Hilariously funny.

November 1992, can it really be that long ago, I can remember watching this show during its first outing, and thinking this is good, but, it was when we got to this episode I can remember falling in love with Patsy and Edina, France for me hands down is still the funniest episode, and boy some that followed are hilarious.

Patsy and Edina end up holidaying in France, but instead of going to a plush Château, they end up in a filthy cottage, all thanks to Patsy's map reading. Rural French life isn't perhaps all the pair think it is, and they end up relying on Saffy to save the day.

I think the wine tasting scene is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, and watching the pair get into the car is my favourite. You get so much development for all the characters.
