John Raitt, who plays the singing Trucker Gil, was a well-known leading man in musical theater. He played the lead in the movie version of The Pajama Game (1957) as well as touring throughout his life in many road show productions of Broadway musical hits, including, of course, "Oklahoma!" His appearance in this episode was his final filmed performance.

Looking out of the plane window, John Lithgow shouts, "There's something on the wing!" This is a reference to his part in " Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983)," in which he reprises William Shatner's famous role in the TV episode "The Twilight Zone: Nightmare at 20,000 Feet (1963)." Reference will again be made to this when Shatner appears as the Big Giant Head later in the series.
