Dessler Delivers; Jack & Paul Battle It Out
ccthemovieman-111 November 2007
So as not to portray all Arabs, or Islamic people - whatever - as terrorists or sympathizers, the show's writers have two guys who fight on the side of Americans in this season's thriller. These guys entered the scene last week. They own a small sporting goods store near the Rockland Building, which the terrorists used as headquarters. That area is now under siege, all the electricity with a wide area is out, and escapees from a gunfight there - Jack Bauer and Paul Raines - are hiding out in the store. The Arabs have a choice, and they decide to help the "good guys." Now, it's the four of them verses the army of assassins hired by McLennan- Forster, who are coming to get some encrypted code Paul took off a computer before all the power went off.

Meanwhile, "Michelle Dessler" is reestablishing her power and authority at C.T.U. and slowly and begrudgingly is learning that her ex-husband is someone that should be running things, too. Everyone vouches so highly for him that he's climbing the ranks there fast. I like one thing Michelle did. Sarah, pouting and threatening because she was falsely accused of being the mole, is canned on the spot. Good move, Michelle. Time to get these petty, catty women (or men) out of that office!

The episode ends with a climactic shoot-out at the sporting goods store and and another revelation that another plan is in the works aimed at the President of the U.S. The suspense never ends!

Lots of Heroics

Jack and Paul hold down the fort, confronting mercenaries while CTU gets there. This is intense. The are helped by a couple of men of Mid-Eastern decent. This is probably to show that 24 is not xenophobic. Back at CTU, Michelle starts off on a bad foot because Tony is there and she says things to him that are cruel. He endures, however. Meanwhile, Sara Gavin, who was promised a promotion and a raise in salary by Erin, confronts Michelle with this and get herself fired, threatening Michelle as she leaves. We will see her again, I am sure. There is high action and intensity and a potentially sad conclusion to this episode.

Unrealistic

Warning: Spoilers
If the CTU agents take down a hostile, is the first thing they would do not be to take his gun and make sure he's dead? That totally took me out of the realism of the episode. Am doing a rewatch of all seasons and have been enjoying it so far, but element of this episode left me very disappointed.
