- Jack Bauer: [In a car with tony driving after leaving a safe house where several armed men tried to kill him and Audrey] Thanks for picking us up, saving our lives.
- Tony Almeida: no problem.
- Jack Bauer: I'm sure you want to know what's been going on...
- Tony Almeida: No not really.
- Jack Bauer: something wrong?
- Tony Almeida: what could be wrong? I'm no longer in a federal prison, thanks to you and President Palmer. Michelle left me, never mind, why don't you tell me what this is all about?
- Jack Bauer: you heard about Audrey and her father this morning?
- Tony Almeida: Yeah.
- Jack Bauer: we went to Fall Sted Security so Audrey can make an ID check on the man she saw during kidnapping.
- Tony Almeida: I don't get it, why?
- Jack Bauer: Secretary of State's kidnapping was just a cover. The terrorist's main objective was to gain control of nuclear power plants from around the country. The man Audrey saw is our only lead.
- Curtis Manning: [Giving a briefing on a monitor with Secretary Heller present] there are a hundred and four nuclear power stations in the United States: we just learned terrorists are trying to convert all one hundred and four nuclear cores into weapons
- Erin Driscoll: Give us the worse case casualty scenarios first
- Curtis Manning: This graphic represents a single meltdown scenario. Edgar, break it down for us
- Edgar Stiles: If we can't get control of the Override, it will shutdown the entire cooling system and the core will melt through the containment building. In the first three hours, the population within a ten mile radius will receive the highest doses of radiation. Most people will die within two days
- Curtis Manning: Most of these a hundred and four cities represent seventy five thousand people. Multiply that by a hundred and four, we're looking at 7.8 million causalities: that's conservative the environmental impact will also be catastrophic. Thirty miles in all directions of each plant will be uninhabitable for at least five years
- Marianne Taylor: Don't these plants have multiple security systems to prevent this kind of breach?
- Curtis Manning: They do, the Override's already deactivated them
- Erin Driscoll: And if we don't succeed, how long before these cores start melting down?
- Curtis Manning: Projections in the first radiation shockwaves: approximately three hours
- Erin Driscoll: Alright I want everyone here from COMM and Logistics to work on getting a handle on the software. The rest of you will handle support and conjunction with NRC personnel, let's get to work
- Audrey Raines: Did you get the security footage from hotel security?
- Jack Bauer: No, the function you attended was monitored by a private company: Fellstead Security, I just got off the phone with them. They've got the video tapes on file but unfortunately their working off a closed system. We've got to go there, pick up the tapes and bring them back here for you to ID. Where are you on the guest list?
- Audrey Raines: I'm having it sent here
- Jack Bauer: Damn it, we're running out of time
- Audrey Raines: What'd you mean? Is it that urgent?
- Jack Bauer: Yes, as it turns out your kidnapping was a cover for a much larger attack: the terrorists used the broadcast of the trial to overload the internet and diverted all of our attention away from what they were really trying to do
- Audrey Raines: Which is what?
- Jack Bauer: They're in possession of a stolen device called an "Override", with that they've gained control of the hundred and four nuclear power plants across this country. The Override device maintains heat levels within the reactors. Effectively, they can meltdown every one of those plants. The man you saw when you being held captive, right now he is our only lead
- Audrey Raines: Then let me come to Fellstead Security with you and make the ID there, it'll be quicker
- Jack Bauer: I can't, after what you've been through today I'm not going to put you at risk
- Audrey Raines: You just said that our nation's nuclear power plants will meltdown. If we don't find that Override, we can't afford to waste anymore time
- Jack Bauer: Come with me
- James Heller: Where are you going?
- Jack Bauer: Audrey's given us a significant lead: we need to follow it up
- James Heller: What kind of lead?
- Audrey Raines: When we were being held, I recognized someone, he was an American. I saw at a function here in LA a few months ago
- Jack Bauer: We're going to view the surveillance tapes of the function at a private security company not far from here
- James Heller: I don't want her going out now. Why can't you access the tapes here?
- Jack Bauer: Sir, I wish we could but their offline, they have to record over four and a half hours of material for us to view: we don't have that time
- Audrey Raines: Jack told me these people are trying to use our power plants as weapons. We have to follow this lead and we have to follow this now
- Jack Bauer: Sir, Audrey's the only person who can make this ID
- James Heller: If anything happens Jack, I will hold you personally responsible
- Jack Bauer: I understand
- Paul Raines: We need to talk
- Audrey Raines: We'll have to do it when I get back
- Paul Raines: Back? From where?
- Audrey Raines: We're following up on something
- Paul Raines: I don't know about all of us this but I do know about you and him and I am not ok with it
- Audrey Raines: You and I aren't together anymore
- Paul Raines: I thought we were trying to work things out?
- Audrey Raines: I tried but you kept putting it off, so I gave up: we haven't been together in nine months, we're not trying to work on anything anymore
- Jack Bauer: [Walking up to them] Mr. Raines, I'm sorry to interrupt
- Paul Raines: She is my wife
- Audrey Raines: Paul, please
- Paul Raines: [Sternly to Jack after Audrey walks away] She's my wife, don't you forget that
- Paul Raines: [Talking privately] do you know about Audrey and Jack Bauer?
- James Heller: Not until an hour ago
- Paul Raines: I've got to tell you carrying on under your nose is pretty unprofessional: wouldn't you say?
- James Heller: I understand your feelings about this but you and Audrey are separated for almost a year. I'm sorry, she's a big girl, and she can do what she wants
- Paul Raines: What she's doing? She's breaking my heart
- Dina Araz: [Over the phone] are you alright?
- Behrooz Araz: Tariq tried to kill me: he was going to shoot me, I had to defend myself
- Dina Araz: What did you do?
- Behrooz Araz: I killed him, you can't let father know
- Dina Araz: Why not?
- Behrooz Araz: Because was the one who told Tariq to do it. He wants me dead because I messed up with Debbie
- Dina Araz: That's not possible, your father would never want to hurt you
- Behrooz Araz: It's true. I don't know what to do, you have to help me
- Dina Araz: Where are you now?
- Behrooz Araz: I'm near the Metroline station on Lasson and Chatsworth
- Dina Araz: Are you using Tariq's car?
- Behrooz Araz: Yes
- Dina Araz: Hide it, I'll pick you up there in half an hour
- Behrooz Araz: [Before hanging up] hurry
- Navi Araz: [Sternly, after she hung up the phone with Behrooz] who was on the phone?
- Dina Araz: [Trying to walk past him] it was nothing important
- Navi Araz: [Grabbing her arm] liar: what did Behrooz do?
- Dina Araz: No, what did you do? Did you give the order?
- Navi Araz: Behrooz was not committed. It was just a matter of time before he turned against us
- Dina Araz: [Before slapping him] you ordered Tariq to kill him. To kill our own son
- Navi Araz: [shouting, pushing her against the wall] where's Tariq?
- Dina Araz: Behrooz killed him
- Navi Araz: That's impossible
- Dina Araz: Because you think his weak? His not
- Navi Araz: Nothing. Nothing will stand in the way of what needs to be done. Not him, not you, where is he now?
- Dina Araz: Why? What're you going to do? You're hurting me
- Navi Araz: I will do more than that. Now you listen to me woman, you will do exactly as you told him. You will pick him up in half an hour
- Navi Araz: [while with Dina to meet Behrooz, after looking at the number on the phone] it's Marwan
- Navi Araz: Yes?
- Habib Marwan: Has Tariq taken care of your son?
- Navi Araz: I haven't spoken to Tariq yet but I'm sure if there was a problem, he would've called
- Habib Marwan: The fact that I'm even talking to you about this is a problem: the next two hours are crucial, I can't be distracted by this
- Navi Araz: I understand, I promise I will personally oversee the situation and make sure it is resolved
- Habib Marwan: Fix this
- Navi Araz: [Before hanging up] of course
- Dina Araz: What is Marwan going to say when he finds out Behrooz killed Tariq?
- Navi Araz: Tariq is expendable: like we are all. Marwan understands that, all he cares is that Behrooz is "silenced"
- Dina Araz: I will not be able to look at you after today without thinking about what we did to him
- Dina Araz: [while on their way to meet Behrooz] he'll run away the minute he sees you
- Navi Araz: He won't see me: you'll be the only one in the car when you pick him up
- Dina Araz: [as her cell phone rings] it's Behrooz
- Navi Araz: Answer it
- Dina Araz: Hello?
- Behrooz Araz: Are you almost here?
- Dina Araz: Yes
- Behrooz Araz: What did you tell dad?
- Dina Araz: I didn't, I just left. He was busy working
- Behrooz Araz: What are we going to do? Wherever we go, he'll find us
- Dina Araz: No, he won't, I know a safe place
- Behrooz Araz: I didn't understand until today what it would feel like doing these things that are wrong, I see it now
- Dina Araz: Don't think about that anymore, you'll be safe now
- Behrooz Araz: But I am thinking about it. Maybe I should go to the police and tell them everything I know
- Dina Araz: We'll talk about it when I get there
- Navi Araz: [after she hangs up with Behrooz, referring to her lying to Behrooz] you did well
- Curtis Manning: [after entering the conference room] excuse me Mr. Secretary, I'm going to have to interrupt you
- James Heller: What is it?
- Curtis Manning: This is Edgar Stiles, our chief analyst: his requesting access to the kernels of the power plants?
- James Heller: My understanding is that no one is to manipulate those kernels while the plants are online
- Edgar Stiles: Yes, but there is a way to do it if your careful. I had to stay away from the precompiled headers while I was putting a software lock on the Dobson Override code. But the chances of causing a load imbalance...
- James Heller: [Raises his hand, interrupting him] I don't understand one thing you're talking about: just tell me what the "downside" is if the kernels are disrupted because of your manipulation?
- Edgar Stiles: [Before sighing] if I make a mistake, I can accelerate a core meltdown in some of the reactors
- Edgar Stiles: [after Driscoll and Heller are silent] this is probably a bad idea maybe we shouldn't do it
- James Heller: But if you're successful, you can gain control of the reactors?
- Erin Driscoll: Edgar, what we need to know is if you can do this without making a mistake?
- Edgar Stiles: [after looking down] yeah I can do it
- James Heller: You're not filling me with confidence
- Edgar Stiles: I'm just a little nervous: if I say "I can do it"? I can do it
- James Heller: Your son was in sensory deprivation for a total of two and a half hours
- James Heller: What did he say when you took him off it?
- Curtis Manning: Nothing
- James Heller: You tortured my son for almost three hours and ended up yielding nothing?
- Curtis Manning: You gave the order sir
- Richard Heller: [after entering the interrogation room] I'm sorry this had to happen but we had to make sure you weren't withholding anything from us
- Richard Heller: I hate you, I never want to see you again
- James Heller: Please understand that I am responsible for the lives of millions of people
- Richard Heller: [Facing away from him] you torture me and now you want me to forgive you? Just confirms everything I ever knew about you, am I free to leave?
- James Heller: Yes
- James Heller: We're making good progress
- Erin Driscoll: Tell me
- James Heller: We've been able to take eighty seven power plants offline: their safe
- Erin Driscoll: What about the other seventeen?
- James Heller: The terrorists were able to use the Override to block a shutdown. Everything we're doing is being repelled
- Erin Driscoll: What are we doing to get around it?
- James Heller: Believe me, we're trying everything: if there's way, we'll find it. I'll keep you posted
- Paul Raines: [Over the phone] do you have a minute?
- Audrey Raines: Sure, what's going on?
- Paul Raines: I just talked to your dad and he said something to me that I've been thinking about a lot: he said "You're a big girl" and I think I've been treating you like a child
- Audrey Raines: I don't think that
- Paul Raines: Well whether if it comes off that way, I need to respect your choices. Respect who you are and I've been so stupid about this. I've lost sight of the things I love about you
- Audrey Raines: I hear what you're saying but I don't really know how to respond to that
- Paul Raines: You don't have to, I just want you to know that I've been wrong about a lot of things and just before you make any big decisions your entitled to make, let some time go by. Is that fair? Is that fair to ask?
- Audrey Raines: Yeah, that's fair
- Paul Raines: Ok I'll see you later
- Audrey Raines: [Before hanging up] yeah, see you later
- Habib Marwan: [Meeting privately, referring to killing Navi's son] is it taken care of?
- Navi Araz: No: there's a problem. My wife and Behrooz have betrayed us
- Habib Marwan: Where are they now?
- Navi Araz: I don't know but Dina's been wounded, she's going to need medical attention
- Habib Marwan: So you come to me asking me for help with this mess?
- Navi Araz: I can't do it alone. I'm ashamed of myself, allow me to make this right
- Habib Marwan: What would you need?
- Navi Araz: To monitor local hospitals, I'll also need drivers as well as access to police frequencies
- Habib Marwan: You think she'll go to the police?
- Navi Araz: No, but they may pick her up if they found out she's been shot
- Habib Marwan: I told you, I can't be distracted by this right now
- Habib Marwan: [to one of his henchmen, referring to Navi] give him what he needs: make sure the woman and child are captured before they can do us harm
- Navi Araz: Thank you
- Habib Marwan: [Sternly to Navi] no matter what happens today, you will answer for this
- Navi Araz: I understand
- President John Keeler: [Through video conference] if there are seventeen nuclear power plants about to meltdown, I need to update an evacuation strategy
- James Heller: I agree Sir, I've already laid the ground work with the National Guard: their preparing to go into individual communities and effect a civil evacuation upon on your command
- President John Keeler: And you say your worst case scenario gives us approximately three hours?
- James Heller: That's correct Sir
- President John Keeler: Erin, what are chances of shutting down the remaining seventeen?
- Erin Driscoll: At this time, I'd say it's less than fifty percent but we're trying something right now that might improve those chances
- President John Keeler: When will you know more?
- Erin Driscoll: In the next fifteen minutes
- President John Keeler: Alright, keep me updated
- Erin Driscoll: Yes, Mr. President
