  Kim : [voice breaking]  I took this job because I wanted it, not because you wanted me here. I know that this is hard for you, but this is not your decision. This is my job; better yet, my duty. I'm gonna be safe.

  Kim : But I'm doing it.

• Tony Almeida : [Over the phone]  what happened?

  Jack Bauer : Chappelle's dead: Saunders' people picked up his body, four men, all wearing hoods, black van, and no plates

  Tony Almeida : I'll see if I can SAT track it

  Jack Bauer : I already put Adam on it, do we have any idea why Saunders wanted Chappelle dead yet?

  Tony Almeida : No, I was just about to call you. We found a thread that Chappelle was working up on his own. Looks like Saunders has a daughter

  Jack Bauer : A daughter?

  Tony Almeida : Yeah the money trail Chappelle was following leads to a Jane Saunders

  Jack Bauer : What'd we know about her?

  Tony Almeida : We're still digging up information: we know she's nineteen years old, she goes to school in Santa Barbara

  Jack Bauer : Is she still there?

  Tony Almeida : Yeah I was just about to call the Santa Barbara office to have her picked up

  Jack Bauer : No, wait, don't, that's not the right play

  Tony Almeida : Why not?

  Jack Bauer : Think about it, we don't know anything about this girl, we don't even know if she knows who her father really is and obviously Saunders is going to do everything he can to protect his daughter so someone's watching her. If you want to grab her for questioning, you're going to have to do it without him knowing which means we have to conduct a plain sight swap: switch her out with one of our own agents

  Tony Almeida : I don't know if we have the time, we're going to have to find an agent that looks like the girl in the next half hour

  Jack Bauer : Right now Saunders is calling all the shots, if we don't do something soon, we're going to be completely paralyzed

  Tony Almeida : [Before hanging up]  alright I'll get started

• President David Palmer : [Over the phone]  Stephen Saunders, the man who's in control of the virus, you know him correct?

  Jack Bauer : Yes Sir, I worked with him a number of years ago on a mission you sanctioned: the Drazen mission in Kosovo

  President David Palmer : The last conversation I had with him, he said there will be other demands. His exact words were "The main event to come." Do you have any idea what he means by that?

  Jack Bauer : I wish I could tell you Sir, right now Stephen Saunders is in a vengeful state of mind. Any demands he makes will be detrimental to American security

  President David Palmer : What I'm asking is what will he do if I say no to him?

  Jack Bauer : Mr. President when I worked with Stephen Saunders I never thought he'd capable of mass murder. Today we know he is, he still has the virus. If you don't meet his demands he will continue to release it

  President David Palmer : Thank you

  Jack Bauer : [Before hanging up]  yes Mr. President

• Jane Saunders : What's going on? Who are you?

  Jack Bauer : My name is Jack Bauer, I'm a federal agent: you're not in any danger

  Jane Saunders : What'd you want?

  Jack Bauer : We need your help, we need to get in touch with your father

  Jane Saunders : Then get in touch with him, what'd you need me for?

  Jack Bauer : We don't know where he is, we think you do

  Jane Saunders : What's this about?

  Jack Bauer : You don't know who your father really is

  Jane Saunders : First of all, I hardly know my father and whatever "this" is, I know it's illegal. You have no right to keep me here, release me now. I haven't done anything wrong

  Jack Bauer : You better listen to me very carefully, right now your father's engaged in terrorist activities against the United States of America. This morning, he killed hundreds of people and has threatened to kill thousands more. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you to believe but trust me, you're going to cooperate with us. There's a lot at stake and not a lot of time

  Jane Saunders : I'm not going to do anything, I want to talk to a lawyer

  Jack Bauer : There's no lawyer, it's just you and me

  Jane Saunders : I don't know anything about my father. He comes into town twice a year and I have dinner with him. I don't even know where he lives

  Jack Bauer : How do you contact him?

  Jane Saunders : I don't, he calls me

  Jack Bauer : You're lying to me

  Jane Saunders : I'm not

  Jack Bauer : Don't try to protect him and you're going to get yourself in a world of trouble

  Jane Saunders : You're the one in trouble here. You're the one breaking the law

  Jack Bauer : You think I'm here playing a game here with you? Hundreds of thousands of lives are on the line. You have no idea how I'm far willing to go to acquire your cooperation

  Jane Saunders : [Yells]  what're you threatening to do to me?

  Jack Bauer : Where is your father?

  Jane Saunders : I don't know

  Jack Bauer : [Yells louder]  where is your father?
