The Curious Case of Natalia Grace burst onto screens earlier this year and told the story we'd heard so much about.
Missing from the story was Natalia's input, as we were essentially told one side of a story, which doesn't always give the whole picture.
Natalia's adoptive father, Michael Barnett, was front and center throughout the initial run, revealing how he and his then-wife came to be in the care of Natalia.
On The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: Natalia Speaks, we'll see Natalia reunited with Michael as they go through the bombshells from the first season, with Natalie offering input.
The next chapter "offers exclusive access to Natalia Grace Barnett as she shares her story and confronts her former adoptive parents Michael and Kristine Barnett's accusations head on," ID teases.
Throughout six parts, we see Natalia open up about her adoption saga and her family's allegations from Natalia's perspective,...

The collectible makers at Funko have created a large line of Pop figures based on Hocus Pocus 2. There are, of course, all three Sanderson sisters, but also the new characters Cassie, Becca, Izzy, and Gilbert. Surprisingly, a new Billy Butcherson figure isn’t in the line-up. But there is The Witch Mother – and while the other Hocus Pocus 2 POPs will be available wherever POPs are sold, the Witch Mother figure will only be available through the Funko website. So if you want to get your hands on this one, head over to Funko.com before all the Witch Mother figures are sold!
ThatHashtagShow informs, “The Witch Mother plays a brief but significant role in the Disney feature Hocus Pocus 2. The character, portrayed by Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham, meets the Sanderson sisters when they’re still children. Sensing witchy potential in young Winifred, the Witch Mother gives the sisters their iconic spellbook.

21 July 2023 – Today marks the Verve Records/UMe/Universal Music Canada release of You’ve Got To Learn, a previously-unreleased recording of Nina Simone’s performance at the 1966 Newport Jazz Festival. The album arrives as part of the “Happy Birthday Miss Simone” campaign, a year-long celebration of Simone’s 90th birthday.
You’ve Got To Learn is a major find for Simone’s fans. The album includes Simone’s first-ever recording of “Music For Lovers” and “Blues For Mama,” as well as the only-known live recording of “You’ve Got To Learn.” The historic six-song set also includes a straight “swinging” approach to “Mississippi Goddam,” Simone’s signature protest anthem, that is unique to this recording—it’s the only known version of Nina playing the song in this way.

Money talks. On Jan.1, Bizkaia, the Basque Country province, introduced new tax breaks with one of – if not the – highest deduction rate in the world: up to 70%. No other rate registered in Olsberg-spi’s Global Incentives Index 2023 reaches such heights.
Also on Jan. 1, mainland Spain raised rebate caps on TV dramas to €10 million ($10.9 million) per episode, which climbs to €18 million ($19.6 million) per episode in the Canary Islands.
Very few territories in the world can hold a candle to this relief. Introduced in 2015, and raised in 2016 and 2020, Spain’s mainland rates come in at 30% for a first €1 million spend, 25% afterwards. Even so, tax break deductions for film, TV and live entertainment for the whole of Spain rose from €19.5 million ($21.3 million) in 2019 to an estimated €153 million ($166.8 million) for 2022, Natalia Jaquotot Garre, a deputy director general at Spain’s Treasury, said at a Spain Avs Hub panel in March’s Málaga Festival.

The Shanghai International Film Festival unveiled the competition selection for its 25th-anniversary edition Monday, featuring a lineup heavy on local Chinese titles, as well as substantial inclusion from Iran and Japan. Notably, though, festival organizers chose not to include a single film from the U.S. movie industry in their 2023 competition lineup.
The 2023 Shanghai festival, running June 9-18, will be the first version of the event that’s easily accessible to the global film industry since the Covid-19 pandemic began in early 2020. Last year, the festival was canceled in the wake of Shanghai’s monthlong Covid-19 lockdown and the government’s strict travel restrictions at the time. The festival was held the previous two years, but it became an almost entirely domestic Chinese affair, as flights in and out of China were hard to come by at the time (and all travelers had to endure lengthy and expensive hotel quarantines...

The 25th Shanghai International Film Festival, June 9 to 18, has unveiled the titles in contention for awards in its four main feature-length sections: main competition, Asian New Talent, Animation film and documentary. These are eligible for the festival’s prestigious Golden Goblet Awards, winners of which will be announced at the Shanghai Grand Theater on the evening of June 17.
While Siff remains the only mainland China festival to be accredited as a so-called A-list event by the International Federation of Film Producers (Fiapf), its selections are largely separate and distinct from those at other major international festivals.
While the lineup includes nine mainland Chinese titles, two from Hong Kong and five from Iran, there are, for instance, no films that hail from the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand or South Korea.
Feature Film Competition
“All Ears” Dir. Liu Jiayin (China)
“Dust To Dust” Dir. Jonathan Li (China)
“Good Autumn, Mommy” Dir.

In the eyes of many NCIS: Los Angeles fans, Admiral Hollace Kilbride has been the least offensive of those allowed to keep Hetty's seat warm until she returns.
Whether they cared to or not, viewers learned more about Kilbride's family history on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 14 Episode 13.
With the series in the back half of its final season, the question has to be asked: Why bother?
With all the other loose ends to be tied up, how much screen time should be devoted to Kilbride?
I would argue that Kilbride deserves some of the same character development that the other Osp team members have received, many over the past decade or more.
Otherwise, Kilbride's personal background has only been hinted at. All viewers know about him is that he's divorced and messed up his relationship with his son, and he regrets both of those developments.
So his service is his life,...

The Vampire Diaries was late to the vampire lit party. The Twilight movie franchise had already begun in 2008 and True Blood had run for several seasons on HBO. By 2009, The Vampire Diaries co-creator Kevin Williamson was worried the show would be seen as a rip-off so he turned it down.

Eight seasons and two spinoffs later, Williamson need not have worried. But he was on a 2009 Television Critics Association panel answering questions about the popularity of vampire media.
‘The Vampire Diaries’ made Kevin Williamson say ‘Oh God’
Williamson already had experience with trends. After he wrote Scream, teen slasher movies came back in a big way. He even benefited, getting his script for I Know What You Did Last Summer into production. Still, he worried how vampire fans would see yet another piece of media based on a series of books.

10 years after breaking all our hearts as the doomed tribute Rue in "The Hunger Games," Amandla Stenberg has firmly come into her own as an actor. Stenberg has gone on to star in a variety of films as a young adult, including the critically-acclaimed drama "The Hate U Give" and, more recently, the horror-comedy "Bodies Bodies Bodies." Up next, Stenberg will be heading to the "Star Wars" galaxy thanks to her role in the live-action series "The Acolyte," having nearly made a trip into the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the way.
In an interview with Variety in 2018, Stenberg revealed she had previously been in the running to play King T'Challa's sassy, Stem-loving sister, Shuri, in the 2018 MCU movie "Black Panther." The role ultimately went to Letitia Wright, in part because Stenberg stepped away from the film of her own volition. The actress explained:
"That was not a space that I should have taken up.

Four Polish female filmmakers have partnered with four top female Polish authors on film project “Erotica 2022.” The producer Marta Lewandowska is in Cannes seeking financing.
The pic, set in the near future in Poland, is composed of four stories about women’s issues, loosely connected, and all with an erotic element.
The film is directed by Olga Chajdas, Katarzyna Adamik, Anna Kazejak and Anna Jadowska. The writers are Joanna Bator, Olga Tokarczuk, Gaja Grzegorzewska and Grażyna Plebanek.
In a statement, the filmmakers said: “In a world where women are products, motherhood is an obligation, sexuality is oppressed and men are as primal as ever, four female characters face the world of absurdity, sick encounters, lack of true emotions and loneliness. The film depicts a fake world – yet very believable.”
Chajdas’ debut feature “Nina” premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival, winning the Big Screen Award, and won best Polish film at the Camerimage Film Festival.

Whatever happens with the new Buffy TV series, there is a new Slayer story worth your time.
To tell you the truth, until recently, I was kind of over Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I got on board with the series late, binge-watching my then-roommate’s box sets to catch up in time to watch the final season air.
There are so many moments from that show that really show what a television series can be—and the series is still frequently regarded as one of the most influential and important shows of modern television. When the show concluded in 2003, I was satisfied with the ending. I watched some of the last season of Angel and dabbled in reading the Dark Horse comics for a bit (Season 8 had some very cool moments), but I found my interest waning.

South Korean cinematographer Kim Ji-yong won the EnergaCamerimage fest top prize, the Golden Frog, on Saturday for the sweeping imagery of his Renaissance-era war story “The Fortress” by director Hwang Dong-Hyuk. Juror David Gropman, a production designer, praised the film’s “staggering beauty and epic scale.”
Poland’s own rising-star Dp Lukasz Zal won the Silver Frog for the crisp, monochrome look of period love story “Cold War” by Pawel Pawlikowski while Alfonso Cuaron, who wrote, directed and filmed the richly atmospheric black-and-white film “Roma,” named for the Mexico City neighborhood where he grew up, scored the Bronze Frog.
The prizes, handed out at the Opera Nova music hall in Bydgoszcz, Poland, capped a week of top cinematography work in 10 competitions, an experience fest director Marek Zydowicz described as a great success despite “crisis situations” during the week, which included the brief arrest of cinematographer Matthew Libatique on suspicion of assault.

Camerimage, the weeklong celebration of cinematography in Bydgoszcz, Poland, comes to a close today by handing out its prestigious Frog prizes. The big winner was South Korean drama “The Fortress,” which won the top prize, the Golden Frog, in the Main Competition. The film directed by Dong-Hyuk Hwang and lensed by Ji Yong Kim was a massive hit in its home country in late 2017 and has since been released in 28 countries, including the U.S., reaching 3.8 million viewers worldwide.
The competition jury gave the Silver Frog to cinematographer Łukasz Żal for “Cold War” and the Bronze Frog to director-cinematographer Alfonso Cuarón for “Roma.” With over 900 cinematographers from around the world in attendance, many voting members of the Asc, Camerimage is an important bellwether for the Oscar race for Best Cinematography. The silver and bronze prizes should be a big boost for the two black-and-white films angling for Oscar nominations.

Nick Hornby joined crowds of High Fidelity fans at the Genesis Cinema in East London recently for a special charity Q&A where he discussed his writing, his involvement in the adaptations of his books and his work as a screenwriter. (Check out Ministry of Stories for more on the great work they do.)
From casting the then-unknown Jack Black to why writing roles for women gets you the absolute best options, here are the highlights of what Hornby had to say.
And stay in touch with the lovely folks over at Genesis for more of these brilliant events, coming soon.
Many thought that translating the book of High Fidelity (which is set in London) to the streets of Chicago was an odd choice. However, Hornby says that when he met John Cusack and the others behind the film, he knew his story was in good hands.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Americans” Season 6, Episode 4, “Mr. and Mrs. Teacup.”]
Who thought a montage involving Paige making out and Philip line dancing could be so heartbreaking?
Thus is the power of “The Americans,” as showrunners Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg almost simultaneously doled out pleasure and pain in a bone-chilling fourth episode. Philip (Matthew Rhys) clung to his simple pleasures while he could, retreating to his favorite country bar to kick off his boots with coworkers before snacking on potato chips over a pile of mounting bills. Paige’s (Holly Taylor) date turned from a fun night out to a professional conflict as she stared at her sleeping beau’s valuable ID badge. And then there’s Elizabeth (Keri Russell): so close to getting what she needs, only to be left with nothing yet again.
She’s tired, and we’re scared. Much like joy and sorrow are contradictory emotions, each...

Among the many controversial casting decisions this year, Zoë Saldana’s performance as Nina Simone in “Nina” may have elicited the harshest reaction. The actress wore a prosthetic nose and dark makeup to portray the singer, drawing criticism from many — including members of Simone’s family. Saldana has responded to the controversy in an Allure cover story, saying that “there’s no one way to be black. I’m black the way I know how to be. You have no idea who I am. I am black. I’m raising black men. Don’t you ever think you can look at me and address me with such disdain.”

Shortly after the trailer for the biopic Nina hit the internet, Zoe Saldana faced heavy criticism for her portrayal of legendary soul singer Nina Simone. Scenes featuring the actress of Afro-Latina descent with skin darkening makeup and facial prosthetics stirred public outcries of the film. Simone’s estate even tweeted, “Cool story but please take Nina's name out your mouth. For the rest of your life.” The actress and mother of two responded to the criticism in an interview with Allure. "There's no one way to be black,” Saldana said. "I'm black the way I know how to be.

Much to the delight of her legions of fans, Zoe Saldana will soon be returning to the big screen in two massive Cbm/sci-fi blockbusters. First up, she'll reprise the role of Uhura in Star Trek Beyond, and then next year she'll be back with the rest of the intergalactic A-holes as Gamora in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The actress was recently interviewed by Allure (pics from her photoshoot below), and though she wasn't asked about either of those movies, she did have an interesting response to the backlash she received when she played Nina Simone. Many felt that Saldana wasn't "black enough" and far too attractive to play the late jazz icon in the movie Nina, but Zoe doesn't see it that way at all. "There's no one way to be black. I'm black the way I know how to be. You have no idea who I am.

Nina teaches us an important lesson about waiting for a film to come out before criticizing it. For it is only then that we can know how truly heinous it is. For months, cultural critics and their armchair doppelgängers at home decried the casting of Zoë Saldana as singer and activist Nina Simone. They slammed the dark makeup and prosthetic nose slapped on the actress in a tragic attempt to make her look like Simone. If only they'd waited to cast aspersions, they'd have realized that the film's problems go even deeper than its cast. Let's be clear: Saldana is...

The death knell for Cynthia Mort's debut feature didn't come with all the initial controversy in 2012 when it was announced that Zoe Saldana was attached to play Nina Simone. It wasn't even when the backlash reached a fever pitch over the last few months when the trailer was released. Instead, the worst moment for "Nina" is the first time the audience hears Saldana sing in the film. Ironically, it's the classic "Feeling Good" that kills any hope that the biopic would transcend its troubled production and bad press. We're only a few minutes into the film, and it becomes clear exactly how embarrassing "Nina" is for everyone involved. You'd feel pity for the filmmakers and stars if you weren't the one being subjected to its problems for the next 85 minutes. “Nina” jumps around the singer’s life, beginning with her performance as a child as a classical pianist in North Carolina in 1946. From there,...

A ‘blackfaced’ Zoe Saldana is commanding in her portrayal of the High Priestess of Soul, but the movie relies too heavily on cheap shots
The chorus from the most famous Nina Simone song never heard in the Nina Simone biopic is the one that rattles around in your head most as you watch it: “Goddam!” Cynthia Mort’s long-in-development Nina has been the focus of considerable casting controversy, but the light-skinned Zoe Saldana wearing dark makeup and face-altering prosthetics is only the film’s surface problem. At its core it is an inept, cliche-ridden story edited together in a treacly and cheap manner. Set 20 years ago, Nina feels like a made-for-television movie of the era, the type which, thankfully, we rarely see any more.

Nina introduces us to its heroine at the brink of her decline, physically and psychologically worn down by a past that we can, at this point, only assume we’ll learn about in the 90 minutes to follow. The film practically begs us to ask the question, “How did Nina Simone sink to the point of drawing a gun in a lawyer’s office over withheld royalties?” And yet, it’s never interested in giving a proper answer.
Sure, Nina – which takes place almost entirely in the iconic musician’s later years, drowning in bottles of champagne in fancy French hotels as her reputation and health quickly fall to pieces – peppers in what it seems to consider viable substitutes for backstory. Occasionally, the titular singer will pay lip service to the difficulties of being black in America in the 1960s and ’70s. Though the script grants Nina mention after mention of...

“Nina,” an infuriatingly amateurish picture about the great singer and pianist Nina Simone, is a new low for the musical biopic genre. First time writer-director Cynthia Mort, whose main experience is as a writer on the sitcoms “Roseanne” and “Will & Grace,” unforgivably exploits Simone’s memory and name with a movie that plays like a sketch comedy parody of the worst possible Nina Simone biopic. No one involved seems to have a clue who Simone was or what she stood for. Mort has said that she could not get financing for “Nina” when she submitted the names of her preferred.

Heading into release with one strike against it — some have already slammed the film over lighter-skinned Zoe Saldana playing darker-toned Nina Simone — Nina takes another strike by focusing on a period of the great singer's life, her late years in France, that's far less dramatic than numerous earlier stages. The film also hits a couple of fouls with its exceedingly expository dramatic approach and tendency to hip-hop through her career without going deep. It's not the biographical film this stupendous, if mightily troubled, musical and political figure deserved, especially coming in the immediate wake of Liz
