A bit like Gummo, but more harrowing.

Troma's description is a bit misleading, as this movie is not usually hilarious. It's got some great parts. But some are far too realistic and harrowing. Most of these people do not seem to be acting. These are people you do not usually see on a movie screen or even on your TV (unless they're on Cops or Springer.) Except for the writer/director Giuseppe Andrews as Coney Island. This makes one wonder if he is related to these people, or if he is just using them. If he is just using them, did he develop some sympathy for them? It is definitely worth viewing, but it may haunt you. (Especially the portion with El Dookie). And if you get the DVD, be sure to check out the "Afterschool Specials." They are bizarre.

Couldn't take my eyes off it.

I thought Guiseppe created a strange and even beautiful film. This is only the third Guiseppe-made movie I have seen but the best one of the three. For some reason it works though many people may be put off by it. I am not ashamed to state that it brought back memories of my former home-life. You can tell that the director really cares about these people as opposed to just making fun of them.

It also doesn't hurt that Guiseppe looked gorgeous and sexy. He has a lot of appeal. He shines in his mainstream movies but you can tell his real element is writing and directing. I hope he continues in making and producing movies. He is a unique talent and stands out from the standard Hollywood-cookie-cutter actors.

Guiseppe Andrews is going to be HUGE!

Warning: Spoilers
Guiseppe Andrews is a new director, and you can have a chance of a lifetime to keep up with the rising of a star in the making, if you start buying his DVD's NOW. Troma is a filmstudio that is the biggest (and only surviving) independent studio, not withstanding all the powers agains them still treating true art-lovers the very best in Independent Cinama for over 33 years now. Put the two together and you get a brilliant and ever growing DVD-library of unique films made by someone who will be talked and written about long after we all have gone, as someone who is as unique as Andy Warhol, Orson Welles and Lloyd Kaufman and one of the few big ones to have changed cinema as we know it. Guiseppe Andrews will be imitated, loved, collected and analyzed. Many people mistakenly think of Troma as the studio that makes violent and sexy films. Of course they do make wonderful gems in that direction, but there is so much more that most people don't know about. The films by Guiseppe Andrews are amongst these, although I doubt if that be be the case for very long, because worldwide the talents of this highly original and unconventional director are being recognized as we speak. And without Troma the world would not have known of this wonderful talent.

TOUCH ME IN THE MORNING is one of the first films in Andrews' large oeuvre. Shot is a beautifully depressing monochromatic palette it tells the story of the Coming-of-Age story of a young guy who calls himself Coney Island, and who is dealing with a lot of the issues facing today's youth: divorce, unemployment, sexual inadequacy and a gigolo father who has just been released from prison! He goes through this with his own individual optimistisism, which irritates his girlfriend who wants him to grow up. Daddy Bill, however, gives him advice in the ways of life, and Coney goes about on a grotesque and wildly hilarious journey of self-discovery. Not as complicated and much more accessible than some of Guiseppe Andrews' later masterpieces this is a great way to be introduced to the work of a legend to be. Three short films by Andrews and an interview with the maverick director conducted by Troma president Lloyd Kaufman round up this amazingly well presented DVD. A must have.

Bizarre and fascinating journey

I believe that Giuseppe Andrews is a total genius. This movie, along with the "After School Specials" on the DVD release from Troma are the most original pieces of work I have ever seen. They are not for everybody-I think you definitely have to have a very open mind to enjoy his work. Touch Me In The Morning is almost like a home movie...these people that Giuseppe has brought into his life seem to just be themselves, and in turn, he's showing those lives to us. The storyline is very believable, maybe a little extreme sometimes, but very believable as we see Coney Island's fears, self-doubts, and relationships. I wouldn't call this a comedy, although some scenes were absolutely hilarious. But it's also a dark, sometimes scary odyssey through Coney's life. It's a spectacular movie, especially considering Giuseppe was only 20 years old when he made it.

Nope

This movie is a terrible mess. Trying to be dark and offensive and different, and it is different but that doesn't make it any good. In fact it's very boring, trying too hard, and frankly just not very well produced. The acting and writing are terrible in this one.

Get me out of this ant farm!

If you pay careful attention to articles and reviews about Giuseppe Andrews' works, you'll often see the word "genius" come up. While people may scoff at the notion (or just think that anything the slightest bit unique is called "genius"), I would be hard-pressed to find any open-minded person who can sit down and watch this entire thing without thinking the same thing: This man is an absolute genius. I've watched thousands of films, but this work stands out to me as the most inventive, unique, creative, and funniest movie I've ever seen.

So often, humor is contrived, calculated, and scripted from every single possible angle (even the "improvisations", the "ad-libbing", are planned); that probably explains the continued existence of those awful Will Ferrel movies... there are "comedy movies" designed specifically for the close-minded, easy-to-please crowd who doesn't want to be challenged -- or perhaps wants all their laughs to be safe. Here is a movie where nothing is safe, nothing is off-limits, nothing is held back. Truly uncompromising cinema of the highest regard, with no hidden agendas, no multi million dollar corporate dream house aspirations, no crowd-pleasing shots; this is purely from the heart and is the purest form of cinema I've ever seen.

This is, simply put, the funniest film I've EVER seen. From first shot to last shot. No filler. Completely well-made, well-directed, well-lit. Great music. Great actors. Truly interesting the entire time, never gets boring. Completely unique. What else to say? Giuseppe Andrews is the most innovative, surreal, funniest, absurd, and talented director in North America. He's up there with Guy Maddin, David Lynch, and David Cronenberg. Watch this immediately. You won't be sorry -- unless you're an idiot.
