If you see "Europa", you MUST see "The Making of 'Europa'"

"Europa" is a very strange film--no doubt about that! Part of this is because it's a strange, surreal film whose plot is deliberately confusing. However, it's also strange because of the camera-work--which is baffling because the viewer probably has no idea how much of it was made--and you wonder HOW many of the scenes were made since it was done before the CGI we all expect today really was readily available. Lars von Trier did an amazing job putting the film together--and it's even more obvious when you watch this French* documentary. The film apparently took him two years to piece together and just how intricately pieced together it all was is what this documentary does best. My feeling is that if you've seen "Europa" you should see this short film about how they made it. In addition, film students really should watch both as well--it is a wonderful lesson--sort of like a graduate course on surreal, innovative and non-Hollywood film making. Very, very few making of featurettes give this much information and reveal this much about techniques.

*Although this is a French-made film about "Europa", the narration is in English. I am not sure why this is and perhaps there are multiple versions in different languages.
