It's a battle that has raged on since Tiffani "I'm not Amber anymore" Thiessen stopped adding Saved by the Bell credits in 1993, and started picking up Beverly Hills 90210 credits in '94. Valerie/Kapowski kicked things off, and the cage match has been firing on all cylinders ever since. Sometimes Bell seemed to have the upper hand, but for quite a while Hills was the clear front-runner. Often, it was hard to tell who was pulling ahead, and who was digging a bigger hole.
It looked like Hills was destined to take a quick lead, and might never look back, because it had all the attention on its names, and Bell had Showgirls. A film so bad that it became one of the best bad movies of all-time, and its recent home video release includes a commentary track by someone who managed semi-pro status simply as a person who made fun of Showgirls.

'I hope that we find that quintessential star,' judge tells MTV News.

Even the most die-hard of "American Idol" cheerleaders would surely have to admit that the hit reality show experienced a downturn last season. Above and beyond the steady drop-off in viewership, the competition suffered from a lack of compelling talent.
Season 10, which debuts Wednesday night (January 19), is seeking to remedy that deficiency, introducing multiple rule and format changes. Expectations are high among fans and "Idol" insiders. But perhaps the person with the highest expectations of all is Randy Jackson. The veteran judge is looking to find a once-in-a-generation artist who will fundamentally alter the pop-culture landscape.
"I hope that 'Idol' finds a killer vocalist that helps to change music completely," Jackson told MTV News in a recent interview.

Forget Brad and Angelina or Beyonce and Jay Z — it’s R-Patz and KStew who have a Real role model relationship. Here’s why!
#1 Reason Above and Beyond — it’s not a “fake” relationship. Rob and Kristen are clearly together because they are crazy about each other and they are something which, real couples should be — they are compatible.
It’s clear that this romance, which is over a year old, is not based on buying each other expensive gifts, like J-Lo and Ben Afflecks‘, when they were Hollywood’s “golden couple”.
It’s not a “showmance” to amp up the box office of their film projects, like Jen Aniston conveniently had with her Bounty Hunter co-star Gerard Butler, neither is it about being red carpet arm candy for each other, like Madonna and her boy toys, nor is it a case of two stars who realize they are a bigger attraction together,...

This is a new one on me*, in fact it is probably the best use of the internet enabled Blu-ray players so far, and it’ll go some way to appeasing the thousands of rabid Avatarians who shelled out for the bare bones Blu when it came out a few months ago.
Above and beyond the improved clarity and sound it is the ability to hitch a ride on the good ship Internet which separates Blu-ray from its DVD forebears and so far that fun has included the ability to connect to the IMDb-like MovieIQ or a scheduled live link up to a director’s commentary event, but this is something new, and typically it’s James Cameron’s Avatar that is pushing boundaries.
Using the Bd-Live feature on your original Avatar Blu-ray you will be able to stream or download some of the features on the Collector’s Edition...

In writer / producer Paul Hart-Wilden's 'Wolf Town', Kyle (Levi Fiehler from Charles Bands's Puppet Master: Axis of Evil) a shy college student finds himself and three of his friends (Alicia Ziegler, Josh Kelly, and Max Adler) trapped in an old western ghost town by a pack of ferocious wolves and has to overcome his personal fears to confront the wolves and lead his friends to safety. Wolf Town is directed by John Rebel with Todd Ramsay (The Thing, Escape From New York) editing. Here's what Paul Hart-Wilden (Skinner) had to say on Wolf Town.
So who is Paul Hart-Wilden and what is he all about?
Hmmm… good question. Essentially, all about making movies. That’s pretty much the all and everything of it. I’ve spent my entire career and life since the age of about 14 wanting nothing else but to make movies and doing everything I...

Nine months after "Avatar" first came out and Stephen Lang found himself in the middle of a globe-blanketing PR campaign, the 58-year-old actor is getting a kick out of doing it all over again.
Following the $2.4 billion success of its original release, James Cameron's "Avatar" is headed back to theaters on Friday, and Lang is back doing the interview circuit, amiable as always, in stark contrast to his scenery-chewing, do-not-cross-me villain in the 3-D blockbuster, Colonel Miles Quaritch. Stopping by the MTV newsroom recently, Lang chatted about the new footage in the "Avatar" special edition, how his career has changed in the last year and some of the crazy fans he encounters these days.

Ronald Bergan ponders why American films are so reluctant to depict the Hiroshima bombing
American cinema is omnivorous. It has swallowed almost every subject from the trivial to great historical events, and then spewed them up. However, there is one subject it has refused to tackle directly: the bombing of Hiroshima and its consequences.
As it is now 65 years since the horrific event, the omission seems even more astounding. Is there is an element of collective guilt because the Us is the only country ever to have used a nuclear weapon on a civilian population? It cannot be because the subject is too appalling to depict, since many other horrendous happenings have been portrayed graphically in American films.
The only references that American cinema, commercial or otherwise, has made to Hiroshima have been oblique. During the cold war, MGM produced Above and Beyond (1952), based on the experiences of Colonel Paul Tibbets,...

Fresh off of last month's Winter Music Conference in Miami, British trance trio Above and Beyond have a big year to look forward to. Not only is their summer calendar stacked with tour dates across Europe, but they are currently working in the studio on another album. We spoke with members Jono Grant and Tony McGuinness at Wmc, who let us know that third member, Paavo Siljamaki, was busy in London overseeing both the production of the new album and the birth of his second child.
Though it doesn't seem U.S. fans will get to see Above and Beyond spin stateside at all this summer, the boys assure us they do enjoy their shows here and are consistently impressed by the ever growing crowds that come out to see them while on tour here.

Miami — With over 200 DJs vying for the attention of close to 100,000 people in attendance this Saturday at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, in the end it was an Italian Stallion, the holy trinity of Swedish dance music and a guy who dons the mask of a fallen mouse that reigned supreme. Yes, on the second and final day of Umf, held at Miami's Bicentennial Park and coinciding with the city's Winter Music Conference, fans were treated to a healthy dose of dance music talent.
British techno and house DJ Carl Cox closed out the night at the Carl Cox & Friends arena. Producer Paul Oakenfold, and Above and Beyond closed out action at the Umf Brazil Arena. But of course, the Ultra Main stage is where most gathered.

Matthew McConaughey calls his son "the fruit bandit." The 39-year-old actor and his partner Camila Alves, who is pregnant with their second child, came up with the unusual nickname for 14-month-old Levi because he can't stop eating healthy foods.
Referring to 100m sprint world record holder Usain Bolt, Matthew said: "Levi is doing terrific waiting for his little bro or sis. We had to super child proof the new house because he's motoring around like Usain Bolt - Camila and I can barely keep up. We call him the fruit bandit 'cause if there's fruit out, he's on it, taking it and eating it. He's getting bigger, more fun, smarter and craftier by the day."
Matthew added the whole family is excited about the new arrival, which is due at the end of the year, and have started trying to guess the sex.
He wrote on his MySpace blog: "Above and beyond all other news,...

He may be in the middle of a divorce, but Carey Hart has nothing but good things to say about estranged wife Pink. "Above and beyond everything, we are the best of friends and she is the love of my life," he told People in Las Vegas Monday night, breaking his silence about their separation (announced last month). "We talk all the time." The freestyle motocross star, speaking at the grand opening of Ago restaurant inside the Hard Rock Hotel, declined to comment further. Instead, the 32-year-old spent the remainder of the evening chatting with a small group of male friends inside he eatery,...
