At this point in her career, Wynonna’s pretty much been there and done that. As one half of the Judds with her mother Naomi, the performer achieved fame nearly 40 years ago and, with her mom, became one of country’s most successful duos in history. As a solo artist, she showcased an even wider range of her talent, branching out into soulful pop and blues-rock like “No One Else on Earth” alongside country balladry like “To Be Loved by You.”

The Notorious B.I.G. is the only solo male artist being inducted into the delayed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony next month. In fact, he is the only solo male to be chosen for the past three induction ceremonies. This astounding fact follows several years of voters catching up on such artists as Neil Diamond (2011), Donovan (2012), Randy Newman (2013), Peter Gabriel (2014), Cat Stevens (2014), Lou Reed (2015), Bill Withers (2015), Steve Miller (2016), Nile Rodgers (2017) and Tupac Shakur (2017) with none for 2018 and 2019.
It’s not for a lack of choices, however. Our new poll below offers 12 male artists who have been ignored for years despite being eligible for induction. Vote for the one man you feel most deserves to be selected for the 2021 ceremony.
We also recently offered very popular polls about which rock group you wanted next (won by The Go-Go’s) and which female artist you would choose (won by...

Grammy-winning country performer Wynonna will perform covers of John Prine, Fats Domino, and others on her upcoming EP, Recollections. Due out October 30th via Anti- Records, the project’s first release is a down-and-dirty version of Slim Harpo’s “King Bee.”
Largely recorded at Wynonna’s farm in Tennessee during quarantine, the EP retains the looseness of an at-home jam session being captured on tape. Wynonna and her husband, musician Cactus Moser, worked on the recordings together. “King Bee” is a swampy blues number, full of barbed electric guitars and slide riffs,...

“We lost one of my all-time favorites…a man that taught me how to write songs,” Eric Church says in a new video tribute to John Prine, who died Tuesday at 73 from complications related to Covid-19. With that brief introduction, he plays a minute-and-a-half or so of Prine’s song “Long Monday,” a track off Prine’s 1991 album Fair & Square.
“You and me sitting in the back of my memory, like a honeybee buzzing round a glass of sweet Chablis,” Church sings, wrapping his high-register country voice around Prine’s...

Bruce Springsteen paid tribute to John Prine, who died on Tuesday at the age of 73 from complications related to Covid-19.
“John Prine was a sweet and lovely man, and I was proud to count him as my friend,” he said during his DJ set on SirusXM’s E Street Radio. “He wrote music of towering compassion with an almost unheard of precision and creativity when it came to observing the fine details of ordinary lives. He was a writer of great humor, funny, with wry sensitivity. It has marked him as a complete original.

John Prine, who for five decades wrote rich, plain-spoken songs that chronicled the struggles and stories of everyday working people and changed the face of modern American roots music, died Tuesday at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was 73. The cause was complications related to Covid-19, his family confirmed to Rolling Stone.
Prine, who left behind an extraordinary body of folk-country classics, was hospitalized last month after the sudden onset of Covid-19 symptoms, and was placed in intensive care for 13 days. Prine’s wife and manager,...

Back in 2016, John Prine was having trouble writing new songs. It had been more than a decade since his last album, 2005’s excellent Fair & Square, and the longer he waited to release a new one, the more anxious he felt. “One of the reasons I’m having such a difficult time is, I don’t wanna just sit down and write a little couplet that’s kind of witty, or something,” he said, sitting in his Nashville office. (He didn’t use the term “office” seriously — he didn’t consider his job work.

Analysis of 10,000 movies reveals the films with the highest disparity between critic and audience reviews
There are some movies you'll just go and see no matter what the critics say. Maybe it's a big dumb comedy and you feel like a laugh, or there's that one actor who you'll watch no matter what. Conversely, there are some critics who can have a big influence on what you'll see, no matter what your friends say – you know their work, and trust their recommendations.
So, what are the movies that people loved, but critics hated? And what about those movies that got rave reviews but just didn't click with audiences?
To try and answer these questions I've analysed 10,000 movies from 1970 to 2013 in the Rotten Tomatoes database, and determined the difference in audience score and critic score by subtracting the former from the latter. This gives us an index of audience-critic agreement, which...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released its annual list of invited new members, and it’s clear they’re continuing to try to make their membership younger. On the list alongside veterans like John Hawkes and David Duchovny are a slew of twentysomethings, including Mia Wasikowska, Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenberg, Mila Kunis, Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Lawrence, and Rooney Mara. The Board of Governors also decided to extend an invitation to Restrepo codirector Tim Hetherington, the first time Academy membership has been bestowed posthumously. As a side note, it’s also a hoot to now say the phrase Oscar voter Russell Brand.

In an unprecedented gesture, the list of new members includes documentary filmmaker Tim Hetherington, who was killed in action in Libya in April.
