Scarface: The TV Version (2003)

*** (out of 4)

Martin Bregman gives us a few comments on his thoughts when Universal came to him saying that they were going to prepare SCARFACE for a network release. Bergman talks about how he thought it was going to be impossible and from here we see clips from the film in their uncut state and then their edited TV form. As a film buff I hate all forms of censorship and this includes silly attempts at taking adult movies and making them more friendly. With that said, after viewing these alternate TV scenes I became really sad that Universal didn't include this version on their Special Edition release. Wow, what an "alternate" version this thing was with some crazy dialogue mixed in to remove all of the profanity. Some of it is downright shocking including the bit where the cop questions Pacino's character at the start of the film about how he got the scar on his face. You'll never seen pineapple the same way again. At just around seven-minutes there's certainly nothing ground-breaking here but fans of the film should enjoy the comparisons of scenes.
