Keep your hands off my trees
unbrokenmetal18 December 2008
Ghosts are seen repeatedly in a forest and scare many trespassers. Ta-Kien, the spirit who's ruling this area, doesn't like people to hunt animals there, and cutting down trees is even worse. But you bet she gets really, really angry when a new dam is built so that her forest is flooded. A leading engineer and his daughter try and make peace with Ta-Kien (nice pagan motif), but the architect who constructed the dam wants to kill the immortal (?) fairy at any price. Apart from this supernatural conflict, there is also a much more natural one when two rivals are fighting to marry the above mentioned daughter. "Ta-Kien" is not just concerned about horror - apart from 3 or 4 scary scenes, it is rather mild - but has a good story, characters that make sense, great locations and also a realistic background (poor villagers have to leave their homes due to the new dam) which makes the appearances of the ghost twice as spooky. Sympathetic movie with a few flaws (some effects, slow introduction) but altogether enjoyable.
