The Way of Light

In Prague, the teenager Alena (Adriana Neubauerová) is spending vacation with her sister, the Assistant History Professor Kristina Konecna (Barbora Seidlová), while their archaeologist parents are traveling. They visit an antique shop and Kristina sees the ancient book Via Lucis. Her interest calls the attention of the ambitious Antiquarian Schwarz (Josef Somr) that tells that the book is not for sale. Kristina explains to Alena that the book belonged to Rabbi Loew and has clues of the treasure hidden by the Emperor Rudolf II four centuries ago. Alena shows the notes she stole from the book and Kristina tries to decipher them. But she needs to research pages of the Via Lucis and she decides to go to the shop early in the morning. When she arrives, she finds Schwarz dead on the floor. She calls the police, but neither Lieutenant Miroslav (Sedlácek Táborský) nor the specialist Knapp (Matej Hádek) believe the book is the original one and has been stolen. Soon the American treasure hunter Aaron Cohen (Borivoj Navrátil) contacts Kristina while his grandson David (Tomás Materna) befriends Alena and the boy Ondra (Matyás Valenta), and along their investigation, they stumble upon the mysterious girl Veronika (Petra Simberová) and Professor Martin Simko (Maros Kramár) and they team-up. But they are followed by a criminal and the question is who hired the man?

"Maharal - tajemstvi talismanu" is a family entertainment with an adventure for young teenagers. The cinematography of the beautiful Prague is top-notch, but the plot is silly and with many coincidences. The youngsters are able to disclose a secret of hundred of years in a very simple way and the conclusion is weak. The main reason might be the DVD that is edited with 105 minutes running time. My vote is five.
