With Sharknado 5 making a splash on TV screens across the globe these past few weeks, what better time to visit the world of The Asylum? With a myriad of films under their belt, from their beginnings as king of the mockbuster to their foray into original film making, it’s no secret we’re big fans of these bastions of the direct to DVD market and have reviewed a Lot of their output! With that in mind, here’s my pick of the Top 5 (because it’s Sharknado Five… geddit?!?) movies from The Asylum in – shock, horror – order of preference…
5) Avengers Grimm
An off-the-wall mix of Grimm Fairy tale characters and superhero team-up movies which, frankly, should have been obvious given the title, Avengers Grimm’s plot is relatively simple: when Rumpelstiltskin uses the Magic Mirror to escapes to the modern world taking Snow White with him and destroying the mirror in the process,...

Giancarlo Esposito can’t seem to say no. The critical favorite has a long and varied resume on the stage and screen, and his skills as an actor and singer have put him in high demand constantly. In fact, this TV season alone he’s appeared on five different series. And while he may be best known as a certain peddler of poultry, his range extends far beyond that menacing “Breaking Bad” role.
Below, we’ve ranked Esposito’s current roles in order of increasing level of scariness:
5. Sidney Glass/Magic Mirror on “Once Upon a Time” (ABC)
Although he once used to be a Genie of Agrabah, he gave away all of his power and freedom when he decided to stay with his emotional abuser, the Evil Queen, for love. That’s right. He was a fool for love. Now he’s trapped in the mirror and doesn’t...

Second Nature couldn’t have found its place in the world at a more opportune time (What with Trump vs Hillary and all). A balls out funny as hell comedy about a woman who against all the nay-sayers is going to run for Mayor against a womanizing, no morals and for lack of a better word Ass-hole who thinks the job is already sewn up. Seems standard right?? Well no not really throw in a Magic Mirror and some Freaky Friday gender swapping and you have Second Nature.
Without jumping into spoilers though, the kicker is this… It’s not our main characters who have swapped roles like in most of these movies. It is the world around them!

The Huntsman: Winter’s War, now playing, promises a “new” fairy tale. That’s true only if you’re willing to stretch the definition of the word. This “new” and awkwardly titled picture is both prequel and sequel to Snow White with some Frozen fan fiction in the middle. It begins long before the events of the revisionist Snow White & The Huntsman (2012) and eventually skips ahead to pick up where the last movie left off. In case you’ve forgotten your blockbuster history — spoiler alert! — Snow White and her Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) triumphed at the end by killing the true twin stars of the picture: Queen Ravenna and Her Oscar Nominated Costumes (a.k.a. former Oscar winners Charlize Theron & Colleen Atwood).

The movie may function fourfold as a prequel, sequel, spinoff and quasi-remake to the highly budgeted slice of fantasy dreck that was 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman, but it’s surprisingly hard to hate The Huntsman: Winter’s War. That’s not to say it’s a good movie – it manifestly is not – but what director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and writers Evan Spiliotopoulos and Craig Mazin have wrought is a deeply weird, definitely unnecessary, and frequently entertaining piece of popcorn programming, one that – while existing purely to further Universal’s franchise-first agenda – also possesses a wacky, oddball appeal that its morose predecessor never even attempted to harness.
This is another way of saying that you won’t marvel at anything in The Huntsman on an intellectual or even a cinematic level, but you might be surprised to find yourself appreciating its ridiculous antics and consummate messiness. The film never quite...

- We Got This Covered
The level of complication related to relaying the basic facts of The Huntsman: Winter’s War could be seen as the greatest strike against the film. When one has trouble describing the “what” and the “why” of a thing, it can be nearly impossible to move beyond those questions in order to assign any sort of subjective value to the experience of the thing. Existing as it does in a liminal space between sequel and prequel, spin-off and continuation, The Huntsman: Winter’s War is a film that is ungainly in ways both narrative and aesthetic.
It is all the more shocking, then, that in spite of some egregious filmmaking and storytelling missteps, on top of its status as a symbol of everything wrong with our modern filmic obsession with origins and franchises and branded properties, the film still works as both a charming romance and a rollicking adventure tale.

Take a look @ new revealing images of "Mad Max: Fury Road" star Charlize Theron in the latest issue of "W.S.J. ("Wall Street Journal Magazine"), in support of her new film "The Huntsman: Winter's War":
"...long before the evil 'Queen Ravenna' (Theron) was thought vanquished by the blade of 'Snow White', she watched silently as her sister, 'Freya' (Emily Blunt), suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom.
"With Freya’s ability to freeze any enemy, the young ice queen has spent decades in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly huntsmen—including 'Eric' (Chris Hemsworth) and warrior 'Sara' (Jessica Chastain)—only to find that her prized two defied her one demand: Forever harden your hearts to love.
"When Freya learns of her sister’s demise, she summons her remaining soldiers to bring the 'Magic Mirror' home to the only sorceress left who can harness its power.

When Freya (Emily Blunt), a young queen who can freeze her enemies in ice, learns of the demise of her sister, the evil Ravenna (Charlize Theron), she summons her soldiers to recover the Magic Mirror. After resurrecting Ravenna, the two wicked sisters amass a seemingly indestructible army that threatens the kingdom. Only the skills of Eric (Chris Hemsworth) and Sara (Jessica Chastain), two warriors who defied Freya by falling in love, can save this enchanted land from the forces of darkness. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan directs the sequel, replacing Rupert Sanders. Craig Mazin, Frank Darabont and Evan Spiliotopoulos share credit for writing the script. The film will arrive in Us theaters on April 22, 2016. The film will most likely face the most competition at the box office from The Jungle Book (04/15) and Keanu (04/29).

Bridge of Spies (Steven Spielberg)
Tom Hanks has a cold, and he needs to save America. A natural follow-up to Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln in its immersion into nitpicky political discussion, Bridge of Spies also distinguishes itself with a wittier, frequently downright sarcastic screenplay (mostly courtesy, one imagines, of the Coen brothers), more agile camerawork (the ten-minute opening jaunt through Mark Rylance’s Brooklyn morning has been a justified source of attention), and a different kind of lead...

The first official trailer for the Snow White and the Huntsman follow-up has landed, giving audiences their first real look at the upcoming action fantasy film. Come inside to check it out.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Snow White and the Huntsman, but I certainly enjoyed the fantasy aspect they infused the story with. By and large, my biggest issue with the film stemmed from the Snow White parts of the story. Thus, I'm excited for The Huntsman: Winter's War, in which they'll take those fantasy elements and carve their own story with them. Based off the first trailer, it looks interesting:
Sure, there's some cliche fairy tale stuff going on here, and undoubtedly many will be making Frozen movie jokes about it...But it still looks like a lot of fun. At the very least, it could be a good action movie.

Have you ever wanted to know more about The Huntsman, the axe-man sent to take down Snow White? Well, you’re about to find out that there’s more to this hunter than you might have expected.
Chris Hemsworth returns as Eric, The Huntsman in this sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman. This time around, we’ve ditched Snow White because who needs her anyway when you have a trio of deadly kick-ass women front and centre in The Huntsman: Winter’s War?
Charlize Theron is back as the beguiling and brutal Queen Ravenna, whose costumes and wicked ways stunned audiences in the 2012 film. Joining her are Emily Blunt as the Snow Queen, Freya, and Jessica Chastain as Sara, aka The Warrior.
Don’t let the film’s fairytale roots fool you. This is a prequel to an epic saga of hatred, war, and revenge. Before Theron’s...

Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt, and Charlize Theron are three of my favorite actresses working today, and the fact that they star in The Huntsman: Winter's War together is pretty exciting. That's one of the main reasons I'm interesting in seeing this film. Snow White and the Hunstman ended up being disappointing, but this sequel looks a hell of a lot better.
Universal Pictures has released a full trailer for The Huntsman: Winter's War, and it really looks like it could be a great film! I had no interest in this movie at all when it was first announced, but now I'm completely on board. I just hope the movie ends up actually being as good as it looks. It kind of has a Frozen vibe to it. I also included a couple new posters that have been released.
The movie was directed by visual effects supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan.

When “Snow White and the Huntsman” came out in 2012, it was at the height of the overly-saturated CGI fantasy world trend. With a generic look and story the film underperformed domestically and the scandal that erupted between director Rupert Sanders and lead actress Kristen Stewart appeared to put the nails in any sequel coffin. But I’m so glad it didn’t. Charlize Theron’s Evil Queen in “Snow White” was one of the most deliciously over-the-top villains in recent memory. By the final battle, you really wanted her to eat Snow White’s heart and rule the world with a diamond-encrusted iron fist. Hollywood must have thought so too, because she’s back for “The Huntsman: Winter's War” along with her little sister Freya (Emily Blunt). Together the two of them will face off against Freya’s former protege, The Warrior (Jessica Chastain). Oh yeah, Chris Hemsworth is there too.

Snow White & The Huntsman was an alternate telling of a classic fairytale before even Disney decided that was a thing that they should do. Now the sequel is on it.s way and they.re focusing on what worked the first time around and replacing the parts that did not. We.re not following the character of Kristen Stewart.s Snow White but rather Chris Hemsworth Huntsman, and he.s co-starring with one of the strongest casts of women we.ve ever seen. In what looks to be the dark, live-action version of Frozen that you know somebody was already puzzling over at Disney, The Huntsman: Winter.s War focuses on the Ice Queen, the sister of the defeated Evil Queen from the last film. By getting her hands on the Magic Mirror, she is able to resurrect her sister who died in the last film. The Huntsman is...

The prospect of Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt, and Charlize Theron starring in a film together is so enticing that we’ll even give it the benefit of the doubt when it’s for the least-desired prequel/sequel in recent memory. 2012’s dreadfully dull Snow White and the Huntsman had some occasionally interesting visual touches, sure, but the reason to go ahead with a Kristen Stewart-less follow-up is indeed a puzzling one.
Yet, Universal pushed forward with The Huntsman: Winter’s War, which brings back Chris Hemsworth, teaming him with Chastain’s character as they fight off the sister duo played by Theron and Blunt. Directed by visual effects supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who worked on the previous feature, it looks to take a bit from Frozen, as glimpsed at in the first trailer, but it remains to be seen if there’s a need to tell this story. The world of "Snow White and the Huntsman" is back -- minus Kristen Stewart, but plus Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain. (Upgrade?)
A title like "The Huntsman: Winter's War" sounds so manly even Ron Swanson might approve, but the first trailer shows this is a movie all about girl power. Literally. Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron play sisters -- sexy wicked sisters -- and they are here to drop a magic mic on the kingdom.
Universal's trailer starts with the question, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the most powerful of them all?" and shows us Emily Blunt's Ice Queen Freya. (Might as well just call her Elsa.) She's a newbie to the "Huntsman" world, along with Jessica Chastain as a warrior named Sara, and they join returnees Charlize Theron as Evil Queen Ravenna, and -- almost an afterthought -- Chris Hemsworth as The Huntsman Eric.

The first look at the new characters of The Huntsman: Winter's War have been released in new character posters! Take a look!
It's been about three years since the 2012 surpise box office hit, Snow White and the Huntsman, came out. With an earning of close to $400 million dollars, it only makes sense that they'd make a sequel to the dark reboot of an old story. However, not everyone from that cast is returning for this one. They've dropped the Snow White from the title and created new characters in order to make the story revolve more around Chris Hemsworth's The Huntsman. With that in mind, check out the cast of The Huntsman Winter's War.
Normally, this would be the time where I'd tell you who each actor is playing but the posters do a good enough job of that.
I'm a big fan of both Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain.

Looks like the Hunstman is going to "let it go," eh? I'm amazed that they really are actually releasing a sequel to "Snow White And The Huntsman," which felt like about as indifferent and generic a blockbuster as we've seen in recent memory. It's certainly better than "Alice In Wonderland," which was a straight-up nightmare, but it's not something that stuck to me as a viewer. It reminded me of Ridley Scott's "Legend," well-designed and occasionally quite beautiful, but not particularly strong as a narrative or compelling as a piece of drama. By far, the best performance in the original film was Charlize Theron's as the Evil Queen. She was better than the film, and while I think Rupert Sanders managed to create some lovely imagery in places, the script for the film simply didn't work, putting the least interesting character front and center. Now that Snow White has exited the series,...
