DS Screwed My Favorite Magical Girl Anime Series Up With Terrible Edits Like Changing Japanese Names To Be More American, Removing Japanese Words, Removing Religious References, Toning Down Violence, Changing Japanese Food To American Food, And Many Other Things. Good Thing The English Dub Only Lasted 26 Episodes!

Great Shoujo Anime!

Call me weird but I can't help but like this show. And you have to admit, it's one of the better Edited Versions From 4KIDS. It has a rather decent voice cast, and theme. The music isn't half bad either. I guess my gripes with it, is I think they over do it with comedy. I think they kind of stretch the humor too much. Some of it is funny though. Like when Corina says: "You Want to break some more China?" b/c Ichigo/"Zoey" broke all those dishes. And there is that cute catch phrase "Mew Mew style, Mew Mew grace, Mew Mew Power in your face." And the costume design is fantastic. The low-cut from the Manga is gone, but I think that's in both versions, judging by looking up picks. However the costume design is fantastic. And I haven't people I've heard already. Well, I heard Rachel Lillis (Pokemon) in one Episode, but she was an extra guest star. So over all this series is good. One of the more better. At least didn't give Yugi's voice (Dan Green) to "Mark" as he is called. Another gripe is, I just wish they didn't pick the name Zoey for Ichigo. I think the names are suitable. I find the Manga/Anime names, to be a tad bit ridiculous. (Except for Ichigo) Lettuce, Pudding, Mint, are these girls or are they food? Even though Ichigo's name does mean "strawberry" That doesn't bug me. They don't really try to hide Japanese culture too much. They haven't changed Kendo, or anything to that sort. So overall, this is a fairly good Editation. As opposed to most 4Kids Editations.

This is for Mew mew power, the 4kids version of Tokyo mew mew.
For those of you who were reading the previous review, that was done in my family van with a wireless network. that was low-quality reviewing. here's a solemn truth.
Tokyo mew mew, is really good, despite the confusing names and a storyline i can't remember since last time i saw this. folks, what you're about to read is better than before.
But then comes 4kids, the people that have to dub it...just so it's safe. but when 4kids changes something, it gets worse, and just plain sucks. but it has to be dubbed to be '4kids' or 'for kids'. I guess i can't degrade 4kids anymore.
Mew mew power is based on 16 year old zoey, a girl with a special power she doesn't know about until a weird alien, a prediscite, attacks the place she and her date, Mark, are at. then a weird guy named Elliot gives her a weird pendant which turns her into a mew mew. so begins the life of the Tokyo mew mew.
Look, the way 4kids dubs things, it's always a fair equivalent to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for the NES. it just sucks. seriously. look, it's only my opinion, i've seen a couple scenes from the Tokyo mew mew version (Which also sports a 'sweet' theme song sung by Rika Komatsu, 4kids just grabs the closest singer off the street and makes a cheap melody from a keyboard and calls it their theme song) and i think it's way better.
if you're interested, you'll be able to catch the 4kids dub on YTV at 7:30 Sunday mornings. Check your local listings.

Following in the excellent style of Cardcaptor Sakura & Sailor Moon, I think that Tokyo Mew Mew is an absolutely fabulous mix of both. Although they aren't the same, they have many likenesses. Ichigo is a lot like Sakura Kinomoto & even have a lot of the same mannerisms & attitudes. I absolutely love how adorable it is, with such a great plot line. Anybody who says that 4Kids version is as good as the original, is completely out of their mind. The voice overs they pick are horrible, just like when they gave Keroberos a TERRIBLE man voice in Cardcaptors instead of his adorable voice in Cardcaptor Sakura. 4Kids has messed up everything pretty much (besides TMNT which is American), even Winx Club. The Italian version is way better. Back to Tokyo Mew Mew though, don't compare it to Mew Mew Power, because there is no distinction. Tokyo Mew Mew is adorable, and has great story lines, and Mew Mew Power is a nerdy, sliced up, vocal disaster. If you even think Mew Mew Power is good, and you are over 12 years old, try Tokyo Mew Mew and after 2 episodes, you'll be hooked. TOKYO MEW MEW ROCKS!

I have seen both the English and Japanese version of this series and I can say 4kids killed it for me. "Mew Mew Power, Mew Mew Grace, Mew Mew power in your face." Is the line they use in the English version. I don't understand what was wrong with the original Japanese "For the Earth, I'll be of service." It is an anime that deals a lot about the environment. They also cut down a lot of the transformation scenes and edit things that make no sense. For example in one episode they are discussing Mew Aqua (Blue Aqua in the English version) Again the name change is for what purpose? Because suddenly all the characters are going "Blue Aqua? Isn't that redundant?" And those lines were never in there in the first place. Second, they say it is derived of from a crystal form and that they are hiding the crystal under the Mew Mew Cafe in the English version. While in the original Japanese they knew it was somewhere underground and had to search for it before the aliens found it. I also don't see why they change the title from Tokyo Mew Mew to Mew Mew Power... what? We can't know it happens in Tokyo? The Ending and Beginning theme songs were also completely redone and they used different songs. This is understandable with some anime, especially series that were brought out a while ago.. however there was nothing really wrong with the opening or closing of the original. In fact the ending is quite cute. They're shown as chibis and they run around after each other. There's also three cats that sing as the background singers for the song. 4kids only licensed the first 26 episodes. With everything they've done to this series I can't see them ever being able to get the last 26.

The English dub aired from February 19th 2005 to July 2006 with only 23 episodes (26 in other English speaking countries) airing in the United States. The show was later dropped from the 4Kids block. Music
All of the original background music was replaced with an original score made by 4Kids. All of the insert songs were replaced with new English songs, along with extra songs that were in scenes when songs weren't even played in the original (ex: Both transformation songs, "Zoey's Theme", "Dance Another Day" and "Lucky Me"). And the cuts and edits and all that crap.
Due to 4kids' heavy censorship, the original plot of Tokyo Mew Mew was nearly completely changed. The first aired episode of Mew Mew Power was the twelfth episode of Tokyo Mew Mew. In which, Mark (Aoyama) ends up happy to find Zoey (Ichigo) as a Mew Mew. However, the pilot episode is completely forgotten and regarded as to not have existed in the rest of Mew Mew Power. In addition, many cat puns are added for a humorous effect. The Aliens become Cyniclons and their Chimera Animas are called Predasites.
Visual edits, such as Japanese text, are completely erased or replaced by English text to relate to non-Japanese countries. Body lines in the transformations are removed to prevent "mature themes." Mew Lettuce's transformation is cut, so Bridget (Retasu) is only shown transforming in group transformations. All Mew Mew marks are removed except for in the Mew's premiere episode. Renée's (Zakuro) weapon is censored because it is the shape of a Christian cross.
Dialogue is changed, sometimes for an unknown reason, leading to complete plot changes and the creation of many plot holes. One example of this is having Corina (Minto) telling Zoey that Kikki (Bu-Ling) lived in a homeless shelter and episodes later, showing her home and her siblings. They added a line from Corina saying that it was something that they all assumed to be true, but since it was her that said it to make Zoey feel guilty for telling Kikki to "go home", it was obvious that this was done due to the English dubbers not watching ahead and straying away from the original script.
Cuts in Mew Mew Power
There were also many cuts made to the episodes (some cuts even lasting 30 seconds to a full minute), even some that were important to the plot. Ichigo's merging with the Iriomote Wildcat was cut completely, causing confusion on how she got her powers. The scene showing Bu-Ling's father training in China is cut as well, so it's unknown if she even had a father in the English dub. Almost 4 minutes were cut out of episode 13 altogether due to it referencing episode 12 (which was put into discontinuity) and made it take place right after episode 11. So instead of Ichigo being afraid that Aoyama found out her secret at the cherry tree incident, they changed it to Zoey being afraid that Mark recognized her on TV.
Mew Ichigo - The scene where DNA is being shown was completely cut due to the fact Ichigo was naked. In the next scene where sparkles begin to fall, shadows on Ichigo's/Zoey's body are removed, giving her 'flat' appearance. The background in which Ichigo poses in front of is removed completely. Instead, the time the Mew Pendant is shown is lengthened.
Mew Mint - Like Ichigo the scene where DNA is shown is cut and the fact that Mint is naked. That scene also contained when Mew Mint's wings folded over to make her dress she later breaks from. The scene where Mew Mint is posing is cut completely. Instead, the time the Mew Pendant is shown is lengthened.
Mew Lettuce - Her entire transformation was cut due to her being naked during most of it. Parts of it were only shown during the group transformation sequences 4Kids made.
Mew Pudding - Like the first two Mew Mews the DNA scenes are cut, along with the scene her arm cuffs appear in. A small part when her main outfit comes on was cut as well. At the end, Mew Pudding is holding a different pose to avoid the Chinese reference at the end of the sequence. Out of all the transformations, Mew Pudding's was the one with the most cuts (if you don't count Mew Lettuce's being cut completely).
Mew Zakuro - Like the others, the DNA is cut. To remove the fact that she was naked, 4Kids added a bra and underwear on her before her Mew Mew clothes appear. When Mew Zakuro comes forward to land gracefully on her ending scene, the scene is sped up, but her ending pose is kept.

A really great anime

Tokyo Mew Mew is a really great anime. I watched it with the original audio so can't comment on the dub. I'll focus on everything else. The storyline was interesting although very usual for that kind of anime. There were twists in the movie which leave you with your mouth open and that is great cause often anime in that genre tend to be a little bid predictable. Other thing I like about the story is that it focuses on the problem with the environment which is really rare. I don't remember watching other anime that focuses on some of he problems e have nowadays. The characters were interesting, likable and well developed. The interesting thing about this anime is that even the bad guys are likable cause they are not really bad...except one. The only thing I didn't like is the ending - it's left open for another season which won't be made. The good thing is the anime doesn't end with a cliffhanger which sometimes happens in movies even. Overall I will recommend this anime for everyone who enjoys this genre.

It is very heartwarming and suspenseful. It has a slice-of-life vibe to it while still sticking to the main plot build up. I wouldn't necessarily watch it now but when i was younger it was totally my kind of show. Each of the characters stand out in their own way and have their own struggles (Mint with her brother, pudding with her mother, lettuce with toxic friends etc.) I cant say anything for the dub (mew mew power) but i assume its basically the same. It is free to watch on youtube.

Okay so hear me out. I may be a little biased because I absolutely cannot STAND anime. But this, this is the worst. First. Let's get the obvious out of the way, the English version absolutely sucks. Some lines of it are absolutely brain dead. Second. Catgirls. Just Catgirls. Why do these exist and WHY DO PEOPLE CALL THEM HOT???? Third. The plot makes absolutely no sense at all, Ichigo Momomiya (weird name btw), a girl who transforms into Mew Ichigo with the power of the Iriomote leopard cat to save Earth from parasitic Chimera Anima aliens. See, it doesn't make sense. Fourth. It's anime. And last of all, the intro sucks. Absolutely sucks.
Okay most of this was satire. I still don't like the show but this is a joke.

Because of me not knowing of FoxBox until Fall 2005, I never knew about this show until a video of a live show of Mew Mew Power from Japan was related to a Tamagotchi video. After I watched it, I then watched a few episodes of the dub and fell in love with it. I also brought the books of Tokyo Mew Mew, which I'm more familiar with. The show centers around 5 girls who are fused with animal genes during an accident and have to save the world from monsters. It is more action-packed than your average Sailor Moon episode, and appeals to kids both young and old, as well as boys and girls. Sadly, the second half of the episodes never got dubbed, even though the show was FoxBox's highest-rated show for a while. I would have liked 4Kids to do what they did with DoReMi by dubbing the rest of the show and putting it on their website.

But I just think that the Japanese is a lot better, as is the manga.
Sorry to upset Mew Mew Power fans, but remember that it gets darker and more violent towards the end of the series - and that will be very hard on 4Kids.
For instance, *SPOILERLOOKAWAYNOWANDGOMAKEACUPOFTEA* Kisshu (or Drenn) gets stabbed by Deep Blue, and so does Tart (Tarb), a fact that Ichigo and Pudding are really upset about. Before Kisshu dies, he reaches up to give Ichigo one last kiss. He gets close - then he falls back and dies whilst Ichigo's eyes fill up with tears.
But... I think kids will like it! I mean, kids all over America/Canada/UK/Australia liked Sailor Moon, and that was cut a lot. So, therefore...
I give the dub: 6/10. (-3 for cuts and -1 for annoyingness of the voice actors). I give the original version: 9/10 (-1 because I cried when Kisshu died.)

Little premise: I watched this show dubbed in Italian. This obviously affected, to some extent, the way I experienced it.
I was 8 when I first watched it, and since then I rewatched many times with great pleasure.
The Italian dubbing is fairly good. The script could have been better, but the voice acting is just great.
The relationship between Ichigo and Masaya is very mature, considering their ages. The gradual development of their feelings is basically the foundation of the show. Ichigo's love and trust in Masaya, and vice versa, is the real key that determines the defeat of Deep Blue.
I would have preferred them to be just a little older, like in the recent reboot. It would have felt more natural (and probably fit better with the Italian dubbing as well, as the voices make the characters sound more like high-schoolers).
The characters (particularly Ichigo and Masaya) feel solid, as the emotional dynamics develop naturally.
Fascinating the love cube between Ichigo, Masaya, Ryo and Kishu. Each of the male characters seems to represent different facets of love.
Masaya embodies a selfless love, freely expressed and experienced, while Ryo's emotions are clearly hidden and suppressed, as he already knows Ichigo's feelings towards Masaya. Kishu's feelings are possessive and toxic. He eventually redeems himself, risking and losing his life for Ichigo and, later on, using the last remains of Mew Aqua to reverse the destruction caused by Deep Blue.
A shout-out to Masaya's character building. Extremely lovable, from start to finish. He sensed from the very first encounter with Mew Ichigo her true identity. Noticing Ichigo's clear uneasiness, he pretends not to know her secret until she herself feels comfortable enough to reveal it. Feeling remorseful for hiding the truth and having inadvertently exposed him several times to life-threatening danger, she reveals the truth and gives up on their relationship for the sake of his safety. He finally admits knowing the truth from the very first interaction and sticks with her no matter what.
For most of the show, despite his strong willpower and caring personality, Masaya is perceived as being helpless, physically unable to assist Mew Ichigo and protect himself.
Finally, the cards are turned over, as we come to know that the mysterious Blue Knight, always ready to save the day (appearing for the first time halfway through the show) is in fact Masaya himself. Such a great plot twist!
In conclusion, I'm in love with this show. It has many unnoticed facets worthy of being discovered. It will always be my favorite anime and one of my dearest childhood memories.

A shout-out to Masaya's character building. Extremely lovable, from start to finish. He sensed from the very first encounter with Mew Ichigo her true identity. Noticing Ichigo's clear uneasiness, he pretends not to know her secret until she herself feels comfortable enough to reveal it. Feeling remorseful for hiding the truth and having inadvertently exposed him several times to life-threatening danger, she reveals the truth and gives up on their relationship for the sake of his safety. He finally admits knowing the truth from the very first interaction and sticks with her no matter what.
For most of the show, despite his strong willpower and caring personality, Masaya is perceived as being helpless, physically unable to assist Mew Ichigo and protect himself.
Finally, the cards are turned over, as we come to know that the mysterious Blue Knight, always ready to save the day (appearing for the first time halfway through the show) is in fact Masaya himself. Such a great plot twist!
In conclusion, I'm in love with this show. It has many unnoticed facets worthy of being discovered. It will always be my favorite anime and one of my dearest childhood memories.

Tokyo Mew Mew tells the story of Ichigo Momomiya,a 13 year old girl whose DNA is modified with a DNA of Iriomote wild cat and given a task to save Earth from aliens who plan to destroy it. She is joined by Minto,Retasu,Bu Ling and Zakuro. All girls have their personalities and quirks. I really enjoyed the voice acting in this anime,especially of Megumigata as Aoyama kun(she has a naturally deeper voice ,so she can definetely pass for a boy). What is great about Ichigo is her bravery and she does have some comic moments,but she is emotionally mature. Quiche ,one of the alliens ,is a bit toned down from the manga .The ending is a bit different from the manga,but very sweet. This was my first anime,so it will always be special to me. Despite it being 52 episodes,well worth watching.9/10.
