Very poor acting of most every character. Goofy effects and makeup.
zor_prime18 June 2007
That about sums it up, so rather than really reviewing much more, here are the high (low?) points:

In the stolen plot devices category:

1) Chemical gas knocking out genetics lab employees (who wake up with temporary memory loss): Resident Evil

2) Tedious dance across thin object bridging an abyssal drop while evading or escaping: The Poseidon Adventure (new one), The Fellowship of the Ring, most any action film with an elevator scene, and many others... (take your pick).

3) Immense facility to provide perfect settings for zombie confrontations and on which the world's safety from pandemic tragedy relies on containment of said facility: (entire Resident Evil franchise).

4) Somewhat sentient zombie-like antagonists that have very human memories and abilities, but still want to kill everyone: Every poorly-done A-Team variety zombie film ever made.

Other random poorly conceived or implemented ideas:

1) Doctor or Lab tech (white coat staff) wearing fishnet top.

2) General Death Star-like abyss of a "Genetic Containment Unit".

3) Blatantly stealing "You are one ugly Mother..." from Predator.

4) Having a survivor maintain a fist-fight with an obviously superior "infected" (or whatever you want to call it) mutated human who's saliva would only infect the survivor as he hits it.

5) Adding generic porn-film quality soundtrack by an 80's soundtrack band in an attempt to sound like Slipknot in Resident Evil or somehow appeal to a younger party crowd.

6) The very much cliché idea that Big Bad (not to mention always bungling) "Military Industrial Complex" is of course responsible for the inevitable mess of genetically engineered zombie hordes every time.

7) Use of the word "Prion" in the script in an attempt to impart some sense of intelligence or scientific reasoning.

8) Adding the genetic mutation of fangs and long, sharp claws to the film's antagonists, only to have them very carefully avoid using them in nearly attack every scene (presumably to avoid having to have makeup/effects re-apply them when they pop off/out).

Horror SO bad you'll laugh - and that is possibly a great thing!
Ryan_McLelland27 July 2008
Well I guess I'm a guy living in my mother's basement according to some "reviewer" (read 'writer' or 'director' or """actor""") because here I am to talk harshly about this film. To say that until you can write a plot and film a movie by yourself like these "filmmakers" did is laughable. Taking my friends to an abandon building after visiting a Halloween mask shop and taking whatever horrible digital videocamera I have and calling it "a movie" is possibly the worst injustice of all. To call this "filmmaking" is making even those who film Smokeless Ashtray commercials at 4AM sound bad.

My girlfriend picked this up at FYE last night and we threw it in the DVD player hoping for some cheesy horror fun. Were we wrong! When the one "reviewer" said this film was a work-in-progress I really hope the filmmakers will ship me a final version when they decide this POS is finished. The film really looks like it was shot with a $500 digital camcorder picked up at Circuit City with actors who aren't even laughingly bad. If this was pure cheese it would have been great but after laughing for about 15 minutes the joke wore thin. How long is this? 90 more minutes? The "plot" centers around a bunch of "scientists" who get locked in the bottom of a building with these mutated monsters - mutated by the Army in, well, horribly horribly bad "Army cameo." (I guess I can ring in on this having been in the Army for 12 years. Wait - let me guess - "it's low budget so what did you expect???") The big breasted females shed their white coats right away to show off their sexy Cami's and the guys mostly keep theirs on because I'm sure the low budget didn't pay for the guys to get their own sweet, silky Cami's. Almost as if reading off cue cards the main characters bicker at each other and I almost either laughed my ass off or busted a gut in sheer pain at the "acting." They start running from the Halloween masked mutated monsters with long finger nails as they try to evade death and...

And I don't know. I honestly couldn't make it through another second. We turned it off and put in something else, putting in something else - ANYTHING ELSE. What did I expect from this film??? I'm not bored with my life and trying to make myself feel better by writing here. I'm just shocked this cost $12 used. I'm harsh in my judgment only because the movie is so, so, so bad. So the actors, filmmakers, and such can come on here all you want and try to blast those who hated your film but get this - you made a HORRIBLE film.

Enjoy this fact. Get some friends and get some alcohol. Every time the film gets worse - DRINK. I think I'll invite some peeps over and try watching it that way. It'll be a lot more fun that way and we probably will be drunk eight minutes into the "film." Embrace the suck people cause this is certainly one of the worst films I've seen in a long, long time. Guess I'll be moving back in my mom's basement now! Time to move the boxes off that old moldy couch down there Mom!!!

UPDATE: I finally made it through the movie with a bunch of alcohol and a bunch of friends. It really was a stretch at 90 minutes but we actually had a GREAT time watching it. Is the film any different? No - it's still HORRIBLE. But it was a lot of fun watching the jock Army guy fight karate mutants with the 4 big-breasted scientists in tow. As a horror this is a HUGE failure - but as a Ed Wood-like comedy it was simply amazing and we had a GREAT time doing MST3K like dialogue along with drinking. We really decided that we want to do our own commentary to this film! Watch this with friends and with alcohol and this film bumps up from a one-star to a four-star like I'm doing right now. I am still planning to move back into my mother's basement any day now.

Really, really poor.
poolandrews10 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The Shadow Walkers starts as a small number of scientists & security personal wake up in the depths of the Medicorp Genetic Containment Facility, at first they have no idea who they are or what they doing there except Dr. Clay (Clay Adams) who seems to have all the answers. The assorted group of Medicorp employees quickly realise that they are not alone as the genetic mutant creatures created by them for the US military are on the loose & hungry for blood. They need to stick together to find a way out before they are either killed or turned into genetic monsters themselves...

Directed by Mark Steven Grove this is yet another horrible, poorly made shot on a camcorder & edited on a PC zero budget horror film that is quite literally painful to sit through. The script by Dave Hodel takes basic concepts & ideas from Aliens (1986) & adds a whole lot of Resident Evil (2002) & throws a little bit of Night of the Living Dead (1968) into the mix as well. The whole film is a very predictable & by-the-numbers genetic monsters hunt & kill small group of humans in isolated location for no particular reason other than they are 'monsters' type scenario. The character's are awful, are we supposed to believe that a bunch of teenagers were in fact hired by the US Government as genetic experts to create super soldiers? I'm sorry but since when did you see a 19 year old genetic scientist? I would have though genetic scientists, doctors & experts would have been at least out of their teens. When's the last time you saw a fully qualified doctor who was in their teens? It's a very complicated job which requires years of training & experience. If three 19 year old kids came to you & claimed they were highly qualified & experienced genetic scientists would you believe them? Then there's the awful story, it is never explained why the group wake up with no memory of who they are, how Clay survives an attack & doesn't turn into a monster like everyone else, if the US military wanted to keep everything underground in the Genetic Containment Facility why was the hatch to the outside left unlocked so anyone or anything could just freely walk out & there are various annoying flashbacks too. At almost 100 minutes it goes on for too long, it's boring, it's predictable & the majority of the film is nothing more than teenagers running around very dark corridors.

Director Grove doesn't do anything to make The Shadow Walkers any more bearable, every so often the film goes from horror to karate as whenever a genetic monster attacks it usually ends up having a martial arts fight with one of the human cast members. There's no scares & no atmosphere, maybe the makers felt that simply by shooting the film in really dark locations so you can't hardly see anything would create a atmosphere. It doesn't, it just annoys. The gore is minimal, there's some fake blood splatter, someone has his arm ripped off, a monster is impaled on a pipe & very little else. The special effects are far from impressive either, the monster mask make-up effects are poor & cheap looking.

Technically the film is poor & looks every bit as cheap as it was. The locations look like car parks & maintenance tunnels, they are very repetitive & dull looking as well as being very poorly lit & shot. The acting is poor from no-one you have ever heard of.

The Shadow Walkers is a rubbish predictable low budget horror with a terrible story that doesn't make much sense & has plenty of holes in it, it has really dark photography so you can barely see what's happening half the time & it has an unforgivable lack of decent horror or gore. I really can't see anyone paying good money for The Shadow Walkers & actually enjoying it.

Disgrace to motion pictures
Slym_sim20 September 2007
I just created my IMDb profile just to comment this movie At first when I saw the cover of the DVD box, it looked like an interesting Resident Evil type movie (I like those movies even if we are invaded by those these days), so I bought it. Yep 10$ I'll never see again. When I watched the movie for the first time on my PC, I thought they had put the wrong movie on the DVD. I have one random question, why is there a picture of a girl on the cover? Anyways, I just couldn't believe it.

At first, as the movie starts, all meanings of "acting" disappears. It's hard to become absorbed in a movie where the characters are acting just like if they were playing in "Scary Movie". The main character, who's supposed to be an army men or something, doesn't know how to hold a shotgun coreclty and has a very mind buzzing/confusing way of fighting. Maybe I'm too used to seeing movies like "The Matrix" or Jet Lee movies, but I think there's a limit.

The visual effects and the editing are poor. I was sure it was a 90's horror movie inspired who's director's vision was highly inspired by Power Rangers, but then I saw on IMDb that it was a 2006 release. I was speechless. Come on, replay 5 times the same stunt in 60 diff angles with 15fps poor slow motion effects and fades is bad. I am sure the movie was filmed with a 200$ digital camera with a 5$ computer microphone and edited with Windows Movie Maker. No, I'm sorry, WMM can't make green screen effects, which were unaceptable for a 2006 production.

The music makes no sense with the actions that are presented. What's the deal with the terrific metal band that plays the music for the "action" scenes... The first song kinda sounded OK.

The sound effects are so cheesy. Some sounds were obviously directly taken from games and/or taken from a very common sound database. I'm sure I've heard some Starcraft sounds in there. The creatures' voice changing is hilarious.

The costumes and the make-up is laughable. The army related costumes are the best. Like I have these clothes at home in a closet we never open. The make-up is soooo outdated. They used the same type of make-up in the 1922 movie "Nosferatu" without the green. Personnaly, I wouldn't be so scared of weird green face monsters with plastic teeth.

The setting is (im running out of vocabulary). They managed to film almost the entire movie in a subterranean parking. I think this is pretty impressive, but sad.

If you want to rent a scary movie, stay as far as you can from this movie. If you want to rent a funny movie, jump on this one, its the best because it wasn't meant to be funny. If you want, you can actually make copies this film and sell them legally, because the government knows you won't make a penny out of it.

One of the worst B movies ever created!
KarenPsychicMedium18 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Awful simply awful! I watched the trailer and the effects were so 2nd rate where the cover looks intriguing and the plot described A group of scientists and soldiers wake up in an underground lab to discover their memories are gone and they're surrounded by vicious monsters. Designed to kill, these human-like creatures boast deadly teeth and talons. The group's memories begin to return, and they learn they may not be so innocent after all.

The Shadow Walkers revolves around a group of people who wake up inside subterranean laboratory with no memory of who they are or why they've been put there. It all comes back to them shortly. They are in fact scientists who were working on a project to create the ultimate weapon - steroid mutant killers (hahaha, yeah, they are indeed running out of things to call new breeds of zombie-like creatures), and they've been trapped inside the building together with these creatures. Now they have to fight for survival as these mutants crave human flesh for some unexplained reason they also have a very high sex-drive which is shown to give us some T&A, well T at least.

If you're a ravenous devourer of all things horror-related, you might find just enough in this goofy B-movie to warrant a viewing.

This movie is definitely a BIG waste of time and lets face it we're only given so many years to live.. do yourselves a favor and look for something more intelligent, I think the director must have been on drugs when he was directing and who ever they used to do the make up and special effects are obviously school drop outs.. hmm maybe they are working for the dole??

Seriously DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!

Worst and funniest movie I've ever seen
iamxvindicated3 August 2007
This movie is probably the worst movie I have ever seen. I mean there's a ton of other bad movies out there but this beats them all. Its actually considered a comedy because the acting is so bad and the make up and special effects. Its a lot of fun though to sit through it and laugh a lot. There's the funniest scream in the movie too. They play it twice. Watch this movie if you're looking to make great inside jokes with friends or family or if you just want to hear the greatest scream of all time. The actors probably deserve an award of some kind for being some of the worst out there. Don't let the cover to this movie fool you. Or the description because you'll be jipped for sure.

The Idea Goes Three Steps Beyond "Terrible."
darkwalker761329 December 2011
For one, the movie is entirely clichéd. For two, (I have to admit) I am grateful that it is only a "scifi," because if it were actually based off any real things, I would be a thousand times more insulted than I am, by merely the photo-work. The old zombie-like appearance is so far overdone that it has been done literally to death. On top of that, the acting, as I have seen, even in the commercials is so horrible, and the "special effects" are just as bad, that a child in grade school could have done better.

Frankly, "The Shadow Walkers" is an insult to me, personally, to others who really ARE Shadow Walkers, and even to the very intelligence of those who watch the movie. I have seen better acting and "special effects" out of a Rob Zombie film. In the least, for a movie like this, the creators could have chosen another name for it, instead of picking something out which obviously has nothing to do with the idea behind the movie, let alone what they call "special effects." The movie doesn't even depict what a real Shadow Walker is, let alone does it have a decent storyline.

To be blunt, this movie should never have been made.

What do you expect for that kind of budget..
deipsix213 December 2007
Yes, I gave it four stars. Was the acting bad? I think the producer got what he paid for. Were the special effects laughable? Same answer as earlier. The plot, I think it was a decent amalgam of successful movie plots, (although poorly executed). I'm sure this was meant to be a funny (for the most part). I think a different director would have made all the difference. The way that some of the scenes played out was plain laughable. I mean the martial arts was kind of cool, but come on! These are supposed to be super strong fast kinda intelligent zompires. ( I say that because at some points in the movie he protects himself with light from a flashlight.) I think that a better director could have really done something with this film. That or more boobs. I vote for more boobs. I recommend watching this drunk with friends.

Some people
ichibakahiyaa28 November 2007
Some people make me mad when I see the reviews that they have on certain films. For instance all the people who have only said negative things about this film are just people who are bored with their lives so they must try and feel better by making the most negative comments about something else. Now although that may truly be how you feel, i think that you are not as smart as you think because you don't know anything about this film. To me this film is a low paid film, made by a young director who is not so experienced as a director or writer. Its a working progress assholes so don't be so judgemental. I bet half of you couldn't think of your own plot. And people saying how it is just a copy, i wanna see you write a film that has nothing to do with any other film created. But what I think is most disappointing is how everyone seems to not take into consideration the time and money management. along with the budget of paying the actors. So until you know everything it took to create this film. Shut your mouths and get a job and move out of your mother's basements.

Even if it was low-budget, I expected much more
jillwilkie0311 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The previous comments stated probably already summarized this movie to what it truly is, "Terrible". What the director needed to actually do was take a look at his plot, realize how senseless and unoriginal it is, and not go on with it. Instead, he just generated a bad plot and turned it into an even worse movie.

You don't really need to even get pass the credits to realize how terrible this movie becomes. Right off the bat you see terrible special effects take place as the "Creature" tries to pick off the people one by one. The sound effects? It is very repetitive. You only need to hear one sound effect scream for the female and then the male and you can from there on figure out it's the same, not at any point even trying to use the own actor's screams themselves.

Then you have the acting, oh at least I think it is. Acting of which every character seems to lack. With easily to determine fake horrific expressions and a monotone look on each of their face, it's no surprise that they only add salt to an open wound.

Really a movie like this should be discarded even if given for free. The amount of time you spend watching this movie, can very well be spent better by staring at paint drying. With such unsubtle music appearing at inappropriate times, bad acting, and horrible special effects, the only good thing a movie like this can be said is that at least it's in color.

Unsurprisingly, bad
BakuryuuTyranno8 January 2011
Shoreline entertainment, a company that regularly produces creature features yet can't get a commission from Syfy after yet, despite even The Asylum being commissioned to produce Syfy creature features, brings us another creature feature of roughly the quality implied by the description I just gave.

They've produced films like "Parasite" and "Stinger", they're distributed nonsense like "Blood Predator" and "Pray for Morning". Now there's this.

People find themselves in an underground building, without memories of how they got there and with super soldier rejects chasing after them; super soldiers that are afraid of light sometimes.

From there, well, its another alien clone type movie except for being much less competent than most. Considering how many Alien clones there actually are that's not exactly a good thing. But as an example, an older man is hanging by a rope. Other people try pulling him up and if you blink you'll miss when they drop the rope. Presumably the hanging man fell then since that character might not be mentioned again. If he was, well, see previous comment about his initial "fall".

But when a movie starts off with armed men staring blankly at masked invaders who promptly shoot them, well, you should know what you're about to watch isn't too likely to be great. Or tolerable.

as expected for a low budget
Luna-Gemini10 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
many people really tear this movie apart and many mistakes were stated.

First of all, the movie was shot on a very small budget, most people involved were interns in local Colorado film schools. So in a sense this was a low budget/student film in not so many words.

Next, the movie was shot at Gates Factory (an abandonded building) NOT a parking structure.

Lastly, the cover of the girl that everyone wonders about? That was the main scientist woman who turned into a creature in the end. So there ya go.

I'm not saying this movie is the best but for many involved this was their first movie, so what do you expect? if you do rent this movie watch the "making of" documentary and you'll see this was a really low budget film. Maybe you won't be so harsh in your judgement!

Ps...I know all this because I knowing of the people who were involved in the project.
