Excellent documentary on these wonderful creatures
Three years of research and painstaking field work has resulted in a thorough, intimate view of the platypus. We get the usual underwater shots of feeding, of course, but the crew's patience gives us the cute mating dance wherein the male grasps the female by the tail and they swim around in a spiral.
Clever use of transmitter technology allowed location of a nesting burrow, so that access holes could be carefully drilled for infrared cameras to be fed in. The photography inside is very revealing of their behaviour.
I have to believe that David Attenborough has been a great inspiration to this crew. His quest for scientific knowledge and his utmost respect for nature seem to be present here too. It is gratifying to know that current and future generations will carry on his mission.
