Hellsing, the ultimate vampire anime, has stolen the hearts of Dracula lovers for decades. It received a 13-episode anime adaptation by Studio Gonzo in 2001 and then a 10-episode Ova in 2006. But fans still can’t have enough of Alucard.
In all honesty, can you ever have enough of Alucard? His sharp grin, paired with an even sharper tongue, creates a menacing image, and his Op abilities make him the strongest vampire in existence. This leads to the good news: prepare to have Hellsing-flavored adrenaline injected directly into your bloodstream soon.

The original Hellsing anime by Studio Gonzo lacked in many aspects. It began by adapting the manga but then veered off into an entirely different plotline. For over a decade, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood has been the undefeated king of MyAnimeList (Mal). On the site’s Top-Rate Anime section, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood sat on its throne as the top-rated anime by users and was never usurped. Despite the barrage of new shows that have been massively successful like Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Demon Slayer, no other anime, not even One Piece, has managed to dethrone Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood from its right spot. However, now times have changed and a new contender made its presence known.

The 2000s were one of the best decades for anime and a highlight was Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa. Studio Bones has adapted the manga twice in two different series, one of them being Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. While this particular series was more faithful to the source material, it still had its flaws. The changes made were subtle but one of the most notorious faults was the condensing of major arcs.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood condenses volume 15 of the manga, one of its most impactful arcs, into just one episode. The Ishvalan War of Extermination, episode 30 of Brotherhood, ends up being the only episode out of 64 that covers the arc. Fans have agreed that the manga is undoubtedly better at dealing with this arc.

In the 2000s, Studio Bones twice transmuted Hiromu Arakawa's manga "Fullmetal Alchemist" into anime. The second series, "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood," is more faithful to the source material (it helps when you have the whole story to adapt). That said, it makes changes too. Much more subtle changes than the 2003 "Fullmetal Alchemist" series, but changes nonetheless, from creating new villains to condensing the story. In particular, "Brotherhood" crams volume 15 of the manga — one of its most impactful arcs — into episode 30: "The Ishvalan War of Extermination."
"Fullmetal Alchemist" is set in a steampunk version of 1900s Europe where alchemy is a real science. The main setting is Amestris, an expansive imperial state at war on all sides and ruled by a military dictatorship from within. Alchemists can become State Alchemists ("dogs of the military") to receive grant funding in exchange for answering a call to arms when requested.

Both Hiromu Arakawa and Kentaro Miura are legends in the manga industry. While Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist has captured the hearts of thousands of otakus all over the globe, Berserk is one of the best series in the seinen genre.
Ever since Kentaro Miura began his manga in 1989, many authors have been inspired by Berserk. Several series also hold a similarity to Guts’ adventure and Fullmetal Alchemist is one of them. Plenty of scenes and concepts in Fullmetal Alchemist are similar to those present in Miura’s work.

Similarly, despite Fullmetal Alchemist and Berserk having some common elements, it does not mean Hiromu Arakawa copied Kentaro Miura‘s work. A Reddit post points out...

The original Fullmetal Alchemist anime, though interesting at first, had to digress from the plot and had a non-canon ending. Next came Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, the anime remake that more or less adapted the whole story by Hiromu Arakawa.
However, one problem still persisted: the plot was still not adapted completely. Brotherhood did show the ending constructed by Arakawa, but there were several arcs that were either shortened or changed. According to fans, Brotherhood failed to be a true adaptation in its hurry to catch up to what the previous anime didn’t cover.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise needs no reintroduction. Since its debut in the mid-2000s, it has taken players into detailed historical eras, letting them embody assassins from various cultures. Ezio Auditore, the Florentine assassin stole the hearts of gamers and has become the core part of the franchise’s success story.

Hiromu Arakawa's "Fullmetal Alchemist" is one of the best manga/anime ever drawn. It's one of my favorites, and stands out among the crowded "battle shōnen" demographic. Rather than the fantastic Japanese setting of contemporary series like "Naruto" and "Bleach," "Fullmetal Alchemist" is more inspired by the West (though not without its translation hiccups).
Set in a version of 20th century Europe where alchemy is fact, not fiction, "Fullmetal Alchemist" follows brothers Edward and Alphonse "Ed and Al" Elric. The two young alchemists tried to bring their mother back to life, breaking the "ultimate taboo" of human transmutation. The experiment backfired, robbing Ed of his right arm and left leg and Al of his whole body. In their disabled states, they embark on a quest to find the Philosopher's Stone. The Stone can bypass the fundamental law of alchemy and, the brothers believe, restore their bodies.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a title that has already been the subject of conversation due to the controversy with one of its two protagonists, Yasuke. Moreover, gamers are complaining about the game’s pricing.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the last tile, was much more similar to older titles in the series. Thus, it also received acclaim from series veterans. However, Shadows seems to be returning to the franchise’s formula, which includes RPG elements and a massive playable map to facilitate the same.

The Brotherhood of Steel is one of the main staples of the Fallout universe with their iconic power armors and goals bigger than humankind itself. In most video games, their presence is felt even if they’re not around, and it only made sense that in Prime Video’s new TV show, they played a crucial role through wannabe-Knight Maximus.
However, as some eagle-eyed Og fans noticed, the show’s portrayal of the Brotherhood feels a little bit off — just enough to justify this entertaining fan theory.
Fallout’s Brotherhood Feels Off, Doesn’t It?
In Prime Video’s TV show, the Brotherhood of Steel chooses and brands certain initiates when it deems them ready to become squires. Brands them with burning steel, that is — something that has never been mentioned by anyone in other chapters of the Brotherhood in the games, no matter the region they were set in.

TV Asahi is one of Japan’s best-known television channels, and anime fans will know it as well for its contribution to the anime market, which includes Crayon Shin-chan, Doraemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Blue Lock, Boys Over Flowers, Slam Dunk, Sailor Moon and numerous Gundam titles. But, recently, TV Asahi has decided to make a slightly different contribution to the world of anime by revealing a list of the 20 best anime songs of all time in a special program, but with a twist.
Namely, these songs were selected and ranked only by foreign, non-Japanese fans from around the world. The list includes songs from different time periods, which is why it is a very diverse list, and that is always a good thing. Sadly, we don’t have the special for you as it is not available for streaming, but we do have the list, so enjoy some of the best anime songs ever!

This post contains spoilers for "Fallout" season 1.
In its first season, Prime Video's adaptation of the hugely popular video game series "Fallout" follows several heroes and villains who are still working to understand what's real in their worlds. Walton Goggins' movie star character, Cooper Howard, slowly comes to realize that America is making up an apocalypse to sell back to itself, while Brotherhood of Steel squire Maximus quickly learns that the powerful men he idolized as a kid aren't all they're cracked up to be. It's Ella Purnell's Vault-dweller Lucy, though, who gets the biggest reality check when she leaves her underground dwelling to explore a ruthless world with no place for the chipper sense of entitlement she was taught to convey.
Given the themes of the series, it's fitting that it's just as hard to tell what's real and what's not behind-the-scenes of "Fallout" as it is in front of the camera.

Jonathan Nolan’s Fallout adaptation is a success for many reasons, the least of all being its unique sense of identity separate from the games despite being true to the source material in every respect. It is this individuality of the Amazon original series that allows some room for creative liberty while Nolan and his writers’ room build a megalomaniacal post-apocalyptic world spread over the vast wasteland of America.

A Reddit fan theory that has recently been making the rounds might just shock some Fallout loyalists into a state of awe for its M. Night Shyamalan-esque twist waiting in the wings of the series’ Season 2.

Ranker is a popular place on the Internet where people can rank whatever they want, however, they want, and whenever they want. This is always a fan-focused ranking system and it is never officially tied to the people behind the projects in question. Recently, a large survey was organized on the site with the following description:
If you grew up reading manga, you probably have some copies of Shonen Jump laying around your house. That being said, what is the best Shonen Jump anime of all time? Some of the most famous anime of all time was once published in Shonen Jump, such as One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Gintama, and so many more massive shows. Shonen Jump anime series are usually long running, with shows like One Piece running close to 1,000 episodes at this point. Dystopian narratives often showcase the most unlikely mash-ups of differing sects, as the fall of civilization calls for unusual measures to be implemented. In the Fallout universe, the Brotherhood of Steel is such an intriguing faction that exists as a technocratic military organization that is founded on a theological belief system. The more interesting aspect of the Brotherhood is that its religious roots are based not on veneration of divinity but rather on worshipping the technology of the pre-war era. Guided by a strict hierarchy maintaining order and regulations, the Brotherhood has self-serving motives, which posits them beyond the binary of good and evil.
In the first season of Amazon Prime’s Fallout TV series, the Brotherhood of Steel makes their presence felt by playing a key role in the central plotline, and by the end, through a chain of events, the organization ultimately gains the key to the future...

Fullmetal Alchemist has often been termed the best manga in terms of broad appeal. Because of its huge audience base, it has dominated charts for years, not just a single season. Hiromu Arakawa’s creation brilliantly includes comedy, action, dark fantasy, steampunk, and other genres.
So, of course, people will be interested in knowing the inspiration behind the bestseller, and how she stumbled upon the story. An old interview from 2017 holds the answer to this question and can stun many of you. After all, it isn’t a conventional shonen anime that inspired her.
Which manga inspired Fullmetal Alchemist?
In a 2017 interview, Hiromu Arakawa, the author of Fullmetal Alchemist, was asked which manga influenced her the most. Her reply was that she was most absorbed in reading Urusei Yatsura by Rumiko Takahashi.

"Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" has turned 15 years old. Debuting in 2009, it was the second (and more faithful) anime adaptation of the original manga by Hiromu Arakawa. It's one of the best anime of its decade and genre (battle shonen) too. For as much stock as you can put in fan community rankings, "Brotherhood" maintained the #1 spot on MyAnimeList for years and was only recently dethroned by 2023's breakout hit, "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End."
"Neon Genesis Evangelion" and "Cowboy Bebop" first converted me to anime, while I admit I watched the 2003 "Fullmetal Alchemist" first. Still, I'd say "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" is what made me an anime fan, not just an occasional admirer. It's one of the most satisfying experiences I've ever had with a TV series (I watched the last 13 episodes in a single sitting) and the high I've been chasing with anime since.
"Fullmetal Alchemist" is different from many other shonen (young boys) anime/manga.

22 months ago, we caught word that an “edge-of-your-seat survival thriller” starring Jennifer Hudson of Respect and Dreamgirls and Milla Jovovich of The Fifth Element and Resident Evil was about to head into production – and now we finally know when we’re going to have a chance to see the movie, which is titled Breathe. It will be getting a theatrical, digital, and on demand release on April 26th, and with that date just one month away, a trailer has made its way online. You can check it out in the embed above.

Kaouther Ben Hania will make history for her native Tunisia on Sunday with its first Academy Award if her hotly tipped nominated work Four Daughters triumphs in the Best Documentary category on Sunday.
The director belongs to a generation of Tunisian filmmakers who emerged in the wake of their country’s so-called Jasmine Revolution, which ousted dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in early 2011.
Habib Attia, who is one of the original producers on Four Daughters, has been an integral part of this movement too.
The Tunis-based producer has cinema in his blood as the son of late producer Ahmed Bahaeddine Attia, whose credits included Moufida Tlatli’s 1994 breakout The Silences of the Palace, starring Tunisian-Egyptian star Hend Sabry in her first major big screen role.
On finishing his high school studies, Attia headed to his mother’s native Italy to study engineering in Milan, rather than immediately following in his father’s footsteps.

The future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise is leaning towards a more diverse, nostalgic, and culturally enriching path. Ubisoft sees the value of its take on the action stealth genre and means to push forward in a generation where the game space is oversaturated with multiplayer and battle royale games with a twist of their own, showing how well they can adapt to the times as their games adapt through time as well.
According to a leak reported by Insider Gaming, the following years for Ubisoft are going to be pretty busy which will surely satisfy the fans, if the leaks are true that is. Openly known for setting their games in specific periods in time, the developers got more and more creative as previous titles indicate like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey taking place in Greece, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in Norway, and the recent entry Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set at Baghdad.

Montreal-based filmmaker Meryam Joobeur made an international splash with her Oscar-nominated “Brotherhood,” winning considerable acclaim for a 2018 short about a rural Tunisian family wracked with heartache once the eldest son returns home after fighting for Isis. Premiering in competition in Berlin, Joobeur’s feature debut “Who Do I Belong To” builds on the same premise and keeps the same cast, but the filmmaker does not see her latest film as an extension or reimagining.
Instead, “Who Do I Belong To” reframes the narrative around a more female perspective, focusing on the family matriarch Aisha (Salha Nasraoui) who is torn between relief, grief and guilt when only one of her two escaped sons comes home. What’s more, he returns with a pregnant Syrian bride, unspeaking and unsettled beneath a full-body niqab. The feature also works in new tones, playing with magical realism and full-blown horror to better explore the story’s darkest corners.

Aïcha (Salha Nasraoui) and her husband Brahim (Mohamed Hassine Grayaa) live on a farm in northern Tunisia. It’s a modern rural environment of goats, trucks, home cooking and tight-knit families. In Meryam Joobeur’s feature-length debut “Who Do I Belong To,” an early sequence of Aïcha shaving Brahim’s face — an act of intimacy and trust — introduces a key part of the director’s aesthetic strategy: Dp Vincent Gonneville’s frequent use of extreme close-ups on the actors’ faces. At times, the camera hovers so close that they almost stop looking like faces at all; there’s a landscape quality to facial features observed from this kind of intense proximity. In the shaving scene, Grayaa’s cheeks, lathered with shaving foam, call to mind mountains buried under drifts of snow.
You might expect from this introduction that Brahim, this monumental patriarch, will play a bigger part in the subsequently unfolding events,...

The Fullmetal Alchemist anime series, both the original one and the remake Brotherhood, are some of the most invaluable projects that anime fans have ever been gifted with. Encircling around the inevitable theory of how every gain requires a sacrifice, the series won a lot of hearts along the way throughout the time that it aired onscreen.

But despite being created on the same manga, both anime series differ drastically, especially when it comes to their finales. While the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime had an extremely dark and unhappy ending, its remake Brotherhood more or less rectified it six years later in what can be described as “more faithful to the source material” manga remake. And now we know why.

Meryam Joobeur’s Who Do I Belong To (Mé el Aïn) offers a timely perspective on war in the Middle East as her Arabic language Isis drama about a family in turmoil premieres in competition at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival.
The Canadian-Tunisian director deftly threads the themes of conflict, family and identity in a fantastical drama that centers on Aicha, a Tunisian mother played by Salha Nasraoui and greatly relieved to see her eldest son Mehdi (Malek Mechergui) unexpectedly return from fighting for the Islamic State in Syria.
But Aicha must deal with her husband Brahim (Mohamed Hassine Grayaa) feeling anger over their son’s betrayal for leaving their rural farm in Tunisia to embrace a violent war and return without his brother Amine and with a mysterious pregnant wife at his side. Soon, the presence of Mehdi and his niqab-clad wife casts a dark shadow that threatens to consume a tiny Tunisian village.

One of George Lucas' primary influences when making "Star Wars" was Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, who is generally considered his country's best director aside from maybe Yasujirō Ozu. Whereas Ozu is famous for making domestic comedies and dramas, Kurosawa made movies that felt epic: samurai movies, noir thrillers ("High & Low"), and Shakespearean stories translated into his homeland's history ("Throne of Blood").
This may be one reason why "Star Wars" is popular in Japan. If you don't believe the box office, look at Japanese pop culture; anime cornerstones like "Gundam" owe a debt to Lucas. One Japanese "Star Wars" fan is Hiromu Arakawa, the manga artist most famous for creating "Fullmetal Alchemist." (Arakawa is not shy about expressing her opinions on the "Star Wars" films either.)

“War. War never changes.” It’s a grim warning, which leads the introductory monologue to every mainline game in the Fallout franchise. It’s a real mood-setter, usually accompanied by a summary of the state of society: In an alternate future, the world is living in retro-futurist, atompunk bliss. That is, until the bombs drop. And so, 200 years after the end of everything, the story begins.

Massalha’s film, a co-production between Egypt, Tunisia and France, tells the story of Salem, a pig farmer in Egypt who is a Copt — a native Christian community in the country, often persecuted — amidst a breakout of the swine flu in 2009 that sends Egypt into a spiral of psychosis, leading the Mubarak government to pass a law to slaughter all the pigs.
In a statement, the writer-director said: “The pigs of Egypt were ‘sacrificed’ under political pressure and hysterical media coverage organized by the Muslim Brotherhood, crystalizing the structural violence of Egyptian social relations between communities.”

“Fallout” is finally stepping out of the vault.
The Prime Video adaptation of the popular video game series received its first trailer on Saturday, showcasing its nuclear wasteland setting and the terrifying monsters that roam the devastated world.
“Fallout” is executive produced by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the duo behind “Westworld,” and stars Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Aaron Moten. The show “takes place in a future, post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. Citizens must live in underground bunkers to protect themselves from radiation, mutants and bandits after nuclear annihilation. The story begins in Vault 33, one such bunker that is a prominent setting in the video games.”
Purnell plays Lucy, a resident of Vault 33, and Machlachlan is Hank, her father and the Overseer of the vault. Goggins plays Ghoul, a disfigured and mysterious bounty hunter, and Moten is Maximus, a soldier in the militaristic Brotherhood of Steel. The...

Meryam Joobeur’s “Motherhood,” Mo Harawe’s “The Village Next to Paradise” and Mia Bendrimia’s “The Magma” claimed a trio of post-production prizes at this year’s Atlas Workshops, which ran from Nov. 27 – 30 as part of the Marrakech Film Festival.
Winner of the top award, “Motherhood” walked away with a €30,000 post-production grant. Produced by Sarra Ben Hassan, the film builds on themes director Joobeur explored in her Oscar-nominated 2018 short “Brotherhood,” once again tracking family tensions when a young Isis combatant returns to his Tunisian home. With her feature debut, Joobeur will now explore the story through a lens of maternal guilt, incorporating touches of magical realism and psychological horror for good measure.
Set for delivery early next year, the film is touted for a splashy festival launch.

After thinking Motherhood might drop at a major film festival in 2023, we are now inclined to think that Meryam Joobeur might actually go back to the Sundance family who helped back the project. The Tunisian-American filmmaker’s breakout short Brotherhood premiered at the fest, and Motherhood received support via the Sundance Screenwriters’ Lab (2021) — it also landed the Sundance Institute/Nhk Award. Production took place in Tunisia in 2022. It is now heading to the Marrakech Film Festival’s Atlas Ateliers for films in production (or post).
