Bad, Bad. But surprisingly amusing
bgrade30 March 2008
Voting for this movie is difficult as it is one of the worst filmed movies I've watched. Poor lighting. Poor Acting. Poor props. Poor continuity. It really has no quality in it what so ever. While it was one of the worst constructed movies I've seen, it is no where close to the worst/least entertaining movies I've watched (that award would go to "Ancient Warriors" or "Carnivore"). I'm actually glad I watched it and I enjoyed it over all. My enjoyment mainly did come from wanting to see what dumb thing would happen next and to see how the completely patch work story would turn out. That said the pacing was decent and boredom never occurred which is uncommon for ultra low budget movies. Either the people that made this movie were completely incompetent or they are masters of acting incompetent. I vote for the second option so I don't feel bad for enjoying watching someone completely fail. If you are used to bad movies watch it with a friend and have a good laugh.

Not sure if this was a joke or just a student's final project
Mixxy_Mona26 August 2010
I asked myself why, for what seemed like the first two thirds of this movie there were no chupacabras. Then I saw possibly the cheapest CGI I have ever seen and realized why. This movie was terrible. It was totally incomprehensible, I had no idea what the characters's names were, who they were, and I'm pretty sure the plot went back in time which made no sense. Add to that mix, sterile wooden acting, a senseless plot and unlikable characters and you have a hot mess. The chupacabra was utterly laughable, looked familiar if anyone has seen the also terrible flick "Demon Island". I had at least three serious laugh out loud moments, but it did not redeem this movie for this connoisseur of ENJOYABLE movie trash. This was just... awful.

"No chupacabras were hurt during the filming of this picture"
Wuchakk13 March 2014
I never saw the original "Bloodthirst" so when I popped "Bloodthirst 2: Revenge of the Chupacabras" (2005) into my DVD player I was assuming I was getting something along the made-for-TV quality of 2005's "Chupacabra Terror" (aka "Chupacabra: Dark Seas"), but, no, "Bloodthirst 2" is so ultra-poverty-row that it makes "Chupacabra Terror" seem like a major blockbuster. To compare exact figures, "Chupacabra Terror" cost $1.2 million to make while "Bloodthirst 2" cost only $15 thousand. Needless to say, calling "Bloodthirst 2" a low-budget film gives low-budget films a bad name.

The non-existent budget can be seen in everything -- poor lighting, poor acting, poor props, poor "score," poor cgi monster, etc. For example, the "score" sounds like someone plucking away at his brother's Casio keyboard in the next room and the creature will make you bust out laughing, especially when you see it walking.

The story starts out extremely convoluted but gets slightly interesting if you can adjust to the no-budget format and stay with the story past the first half hour (remember, I said "slightly interesting"). There's some shady goings-on at a castle-like asylum, a kidnapped girl & her inept kidnappers, a priest helping a couple of Hispanics who think they saw the devil, a detective & others looking for the young lass, campers getting killed, an abandoned mine and a mysterious shed & cabin in the woods. All these story facets were shot outside of Sacramento, CA, including Ione and El Dorado & Placer counties.

Although quality-wise "Bloodthirst 2" is on the level of "Plan 9" and even worse than "Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon," I'm giving it 3.5/10 Stars for a handful of positives:

  • It IS so bad it's entertaining. My wife & I had some good laughs watching it. - Megan Welch plays the kidnapped girl and she's a quality cutie; she even has a decent bikini scene at the beach. - There's a cool metal song played during the end credits, "Mortal Despair" by Dan Mumm's band (at the time) Mortal Despair. Although the production is of demo quality the song itself is actually good, that is, if you're into this type of music; the lyrics reflect a young man's grief after the death of his beloved. It's kind of moving, really. - I enjoyed the Big Valley, CA, locations. - The film is curious and makes one wonder who or why anyone would come up with such a tangled, bizarre plot and actually think it's good enough to make into a movie. And then you wonder about the "actors" and how the flick ever got a decent DVD release. It's bewildering. - There's a 10-minute "Making Of" documentary that's entertaining and helps answer some questions.

The runtime is 88 minutes.

FINAL SAY: I don't recommend this movie unless the positives noted above trip your trigger. Surprisingly, I'm glad I watched it and own it, but -- other than the reasons cited -- it's hard to express why, except perhaps because it's interesting to observe the work of an amateur filmmaker -- direction, sequencing, choice of locations, props, etc.

GRADE: D

i loved this film
cowsruleworld139 April 2006
you know those scary movies that you rent and make fun of with friends? well this was a movie we picked out for that. but when we started watching, we realized there was no need to make fun of it, it did that by itself. all 6 of us who were watching were crying, tears streaming down our eyes we were laughing so hard at it. from what i got out of it, there was a girl who was kidnapped, and is trying to be rescued while the chupacabra is running rampant around the forest. i believe this is the worst film i have ever seen in my life, but if you're looking for good chuckle with some other horror buffs, check out this movie

Mrs. Grundy's 4th grade homeroom class makes a movie
lastgoldrush29 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I'm glad that chupacabra movies have become their own genre. Are there enough chupacabra movies already in existence? Obviously, Mr. Mumm did not think so, since this is the second one he has made. Unfortunately, there is not very much chupacabra in this chupacabra movie. Mostly it's about sweaty guys yelling at each other and some kidnappers and a detective and people who die in a barn. The chupacabra prowls around and shows up at random moments of CGI tragedy. He usually looks like a large falafel with teeth and wings, and the actors sound like they're from a society that punishes emotion with thumbscrews and water torture. Oh, and when we finally see the chupacabra walk, he looks like he is in some form of rectal pain, because he makes these sad, clenched-buttcheek little steps.

The song that plays over the end credits is like Geddy Lee got drunk and sniffed some ammonia and recorded the sounds he made thereafter.

More more and more
BandSAboutMovies10 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Just look at that image of a humanoid chupacabra and remember 2005, a time when life was much, much simpler than today and we had no idea. We could still rent movies in stores. And yeah, things are probably more convenient today, but we also had movies with chupacabras. Two in a row, no less, from Jonathan Mumm, who directed and wrote this.

You know what's really crazy? This movie isn't even about a chupacabra. It's about a kidnapping. A chupacabra shows up -- and it looks better than the first movie because people whined that they got a cool looking poster and that monster wasn't in the movie and have you people never watched an exploitation movie before?!? -- but this is really about a kidnapping. I am all for the bait and switch, folks.

Also in 2005, you could kidnap an attractive college student and ask for $2 million and no one laughed at you. Today, we don't believe in science so we would just giggle and try and negotiate the ransom.

This movie makes me want to love it and as such has a scene where a priest investigates the possessions going on in this small town and gets killed by a chupacabra and honestly, that's all I want movies to be about.

The tagline is "It can smell your fear." Can it also smell how happy I am to look over and see this movie on my shelf and be so happy that I own it, much less the gorgeous Visual Vengeance blu ray? You got me goat killer!

A disappointing but somewhat watchable effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder8 October 2022
Trying to track down a vicious escaped criminal, a federal agent is soon assigned to a secondary case involving a kidnapped teenager in the area that's taken to a remote mine rumored to be haunted by a legendary creature and sets out to rescue her while steering clear of the raging beast.

This was a fun enough if somewhat lacking genre effort. Among the films' positive features is the means through which this one manages to provide a means of connecting it's slew of storylines. With the kidnapping leading into the series of discoveries around town about the creature as it's been dealing with the stragglers hiding out around the area, it features quite a lot to like in the final half where it has some cheesy attacks and ambushes around the compound with the blatantly fake creature involved in the proceeds. As this goes alongside the series of double-crosses and twist reveals taking place which spell out a bit more cohesion in the multitude of storylines taking place here, that manages to provide this one with enough to like to be watchable at the very least. There are some big problems with this one. The main drawback is the highly ineffective and outright convoluted plotline that manages to incorporate so much into this that it's extremely difficult to figure out what's happening. With the shady goings-on at the clinic, the ineffective federal agent who's there for no reason, the investigation into the kidnapping, and the setup involving the abandoned mine, these are just a few of the storylines going on here which just combine into a random central premise. That also leaves this with a general lack of creature action in any regard beyond those few segments which don't have any kind of overt gore or kills featured here with the outright lame effects not providing any kind of realistic look or feel to anything going on here with the low-budget giving itself enough flaws to bring this one down.

Rated PG-13: Violence and Language.

...this film has something for everyone: Campy, Funny, Scary!
HorrorFilmLoverYep29 May 2005
...this film has something for everyone: Campy, Funny, Scary! Check it out @ Blockbuster! This movie was filmed in the Sacramento, CA area and done really well. "Bloodthirst 2" is definitely entertaining and a must-see for anyone who loves classic horror films. This Chupacabra film is truly 88 minutes of pure fun. Some say Chupacabras are simply "Legend" (like Bigfoot). But many people in Latin America swear that this Goat Blood Sucker is for real. See the movie and decide for yourself. My parents saw the film and laughed until the Chupacabra attached, and then they screamed, loud! For a low-budget horror film, this is a 5-Star, 2 thumbs up production all the way!

Chupacabras Straight-up, with a Twist!!
mrpentax6 June 2005
This movie has you guessing what's happening to who and why from the very beginning. Very clever plot and too clever to include spoilers. Stick with it, and you will be surprised. Enjoy the authentic California gold rush settings and a very interesting cast. Electro-shock therapy for pain and profit, gives Jeremy (Jason Michael Fong) a buzz, but does he really know anything worth 20,000 volts of P.G.& E.'s finest vintage AC/DC. The wide variety of characters provides someone for everyone, especially if you like blonde cuteys. Can anyone go up against the Chupacabras and survive? You'll have to see this one through to find out!! mrpentax gives at least one thumb up (or maybe seven, if I were a Chupacabra).

You had me at Chupacabara
yeodawg4 November 2011
This is a BRO-FILM, a guy got his friends and family together to film this bad-boy so it comes out cheesy. A lot of kids in the mix, a lead actress could use some time in the make-up trailer. Maybe a light tweezing so you're not running around like Edward James Olmos. Anyhow the script was tight, the acting was tight, the production values were a lil lax, and I've seen security footage done with better cameras. I like the whole once bitten zombie factor added into it, so besides the monster you have his victims to contend with. Anyways it was a good movie, I enjoyed watching it, and you will too. As far as special effects I don't remember it, which is good, because usually they're so horrible in films like this you can't forget.
