Mysterious and suspenseful thriller
janetblume9 November 2006
30-year-old manager Marian travels from New York to Berlin in order to perform a sad task: Her brother Michael has committed suicide and she has to sort his things out. Doing this, Marian and her Berlin friend Susann discover unnerving photographs in Michael's apartment. Little by little, she gets to know the neighbours who seem to be just as mysterious: Bergen, the eerie old man who often appears abruptly and unexpectedly; Eric, the self-confident comic-strip artist whose sexual encounters with different women Marian can witness from Michael's window.

Great animation. I'm impressed of this work. A big compliment. Drawn in Blood is mysterious and suspenseful thriller. The side of Berlin in this movie is wonderful, great places of this city are shown. I love this town. Berlin is also exciting like the movie.

Boring

I found this movie to be suspenseful, moody, tasteful... and incredibly boring. So I gave up after watching about half of it or so. Plot is OK, characters are realistic, acting is solid... unfortunately boredom kills all of the above.

not the most riveting of tales

Warning: Spoilers
A young woman travels to Germany in order to arrange the funeral of her brother, who died an apparent suicide. Slowly she begins to suspect that her brother might have been involved in rather unsavory activities. Expensive photographic material plus some very racy pictures seem to indicate something along the lines of blackmail or voyeurism...

I can't say that I liked this little thriller very much. Almost all of the characters struck me as unpleasant, cold or self-absorbed. This included the heroine, who seemed to treat the death of her sibling - possibly her only sibling - as a kind of minor inconvenience. Even the dead man's mother didn't seem overcome with grief. Listen, if even the dead man's relatives can't mourn his premature death, why should we ?

Moreover, much of the movie was filmed in wintry grey or drab umber, which did little for Berlin's considerable beauty.

I'm still giving four stars, mainly because of the animation titles and segments enlivening the movie. (Without giving away too much of the plot, part of the intrigue concerns a comic book series overflowing with blood and violence.) The quality of the animation was good ; better, in fact, than the rest of the movie deserved.
