The Recommendations... A Revelation.
jaywatts30 November 2005
I recall with great fondness my first screening of the now legendary The Recommendations, at Sala Rosa in Montreal, 2004. Blissfully tipsy, and accompanied by a friend who'd recently moved to the city (on the heels of my own journey there a couple of months prior), I watched in awe as Auto Vaud and co. weaved a tapestry of astonishing brilliance, moral clarity, and most of all, humanity. The humanity of this picture, this masterwork, set it apart from the more pathologically inclined Gesamtkunstwerk we've all been subjected to in the past century or so.

I could go on, I should go on, but let's say that this mockumentary parallels, with admirable aplomb, the ouevre of Christopher Guest et al, while not parroting it.

I could go on, and I will, but I feel I should be the first to step up and RECOMMEND the film... Har har.
