An Interesting but Rather Perplexing Film
Uriah4331 July 2021
This film essentially begins one night with a man named "Hyuk" (Ni-ta Ah) attempting to have sex with his wife "Kyung" (Yeong-ho Kim) only to be rejected because she is too tired after a hard day at work. Naturally, this leaves him quite frustrated and since this isn't the first time this has happened he decides to share his problems with his male colleagues at his workplace with one of them even suggesting that he consider wife swapping as an option. Meanwhile, Kyung meets with her good--and quite attractive--friend "Sook" (Hyun-hee Kim) who suggests that she takes a more active interest in sex to revive her marriage. Not long afterward both Hyuk and Kyung agree to take a weekend vacation and it's during this time that Hyuk begins to experience certain sexual problems which create even more difficulties with their marriage. In addition to that their sexual frustrations soon start to bleed over into their work environment as well. Its then that Hyuk begins to seriously consider the wife-swapping option and eventually turns to Sook's husband "Woo" (Dong-Hwan Yun) for his advice-not fully realizing just how different their marriages actually are. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this was a difficult film for me to rate due in large part to the inherent cultural differences and the rather ambiguous ending. In addition to that I was also surprised at some of the sexually explicit content along with the dark turn of events toward the end as well. It was all quite perplexing. In any case, I liked the performance of Yeong-ho Kim and-despite the rather disappointing ending-I enjoyed this film for the most part and I have rated it accordingly. Slightly above average.
