The purest expression of cinematic genius.
ahlavats24 April 2006
Finlayson succeeds with this film where supposed 'giants' of cinema have faltered. The pain and drama of Citizen Kane becomes a high-pitched squeal of simpering pathos compared to the inexhaustible depths of profundity each frame, each cut, each furtive squirt of blood -- conveys! The sombre and melancholic mood of A Space Oddyssey turns into the whine of a banal and indulgent bourgeois daydream -- against the deep and questioning silence of The Walkers. Oh with what power, subtlety, and masterful restraint does Finlayson convey the starkest, barren and paralyzed depths of human misery. An anguished and solemn dirge for a bygone age, a crippled dream, and all that man could ever, perhaps, have been, this film - oh this film! - is an experience unlike any other. It will change you... but no! Do not see it! I fear, it may be too much!

Evil Woods
garbanzo525 August 2018
So these two bank robbers get lost in the woods and a sheriff and a newer cop pair up to go into the woods after them. It's all good except the woods turn out to be evil. Predictable horror ensues. Deserves a 5, bumping up to 7 because I know someone in this and the rating is too low right now. What do people expect from this low budget movie perfection? Lighten up people.

If you go down to the woods today.....

Warning: Spoilers
A class act.

Plot.

The two protagonists are bank robbers and they are on the run from the police. They are really dumb. The car breaks down and they run into the forest. This however is not a normal tract of land, people have went into it and then they have vanished. They are being pursued by a hard bitten cop who is not going to let them escape. He is then joined by a novice cop and they also venture into the forest to be swallowed up by it's lush enveloping greenness. Four people are lost in the forest and we essentially get the eternal battle between good and evil. Where evil gnaws at the edges of the good. The two policemen manage to get lost as well and decide to trap or hunt down the two criminals. Then things start to go wrong for each of the groups.

Thoughts

This is an enjoyable well made short movie of 50 minutes. Whilst watching it I was reminded of soft for digging and The Yellow Brick Road. I enjoyed the way that as they got deeper into the forest so the madness crept in. Would they escape? The dumb criminals seemed to do irrational things and thwart any chance that they might have to escape. Is this because they are just plain ignorant or is this the forest's way of not letting them escape from it's clutches? The two police officers are unlucky or so it seems. Throughout the movie the music is sombre and brooding. It adds a chill to what happens during the movie. The acting is superb throughout also. The story has some laugh out loud (in a macabre way) shocks and it has a touching end. I loved this movie.
