Killer - in every sense of the word
jshlucasnyc16 June 2005
A patient in a generic clinic has just found out he has precisely 5 minutes to live. He doesn't react well... and neither does the doctor who's just broken him the news...

Although labelled 'concept art' by most of the viewers in the screening I attended, the lack of narrative is reflective. As the tagline says - what would you do with 5mins to live?- The point of the film is 'well, just what COULD you do?'

Regardless that this obviously low-budget, the style is amazing, but again, it does rely heavily on it's core concept, and doesn't particularly develop, which can be frustrating to watch for the un-initiated.

But it's that concept that sticks in your mind. Real time, with a cut every second, we become so conscious of the fact that time is ticking away, not just for the character, but for everyone. The scratchy 16mm film adds to the neo noir feel, and the director does a great job of giving an almost David Lynch surreal-ness, especially with the awkward, sinister doctor.

I think it's a love/hate one. But personally, I love it.

can't stop thinking about this film...

kicka*se alternative short - fearless film-making.

witty, and violent, this is definitely not one for everyone. and yes, it ain't perfect. but i heard it had a budget smaller than most films catering allowance, so I'll forgive it for being a little rough around the edges.

The performances aren't the best, but the writing and especially the editing really is pinpoint stuff.

I'm not the biggest fan of surreal films like Lost Highway, but this conveys sinister and different, without being to... 'out there'

check it out if you can

wasted potential?

Firstly I loved this little film. So sorry if I'm focusing on the negative.

It was the logline that attracted me 2 this. It's refreshingly hi concept 4 a short, and an idea that immediately gets u thinking. But having seen it, a lot could have been done better.

The script just doesn't do justice 2 the idea & I didn't care 4 either performer.

On the positive side, the editing is sublime, and I'm amazed at the fact that it doesn't feel slow, even though it's jus 2 actors in a room!

At the end of the day, I saw some better shorts that nite, but none that left me thinking as much as this one. I'm still thinking about it now.

Word is a feature's in the works, I hope they can learn from their mistakes!
