Great film, made with love !

Warning: Spoilers
The film gets it's strength from the formidable acting and directing. Lots of emotions in this movie, and all of them are pure and real.

What surprised me, was that the movie was not shot at La Palma, but at Ibiza.

Nice to hear the name of one of Holland's best writers in the movie: "Jeroen Brouwers".

I enjoyed every minute of the movie.

The scenes with the mother i found overwhelmingly good. Great acting. The scenes with the "partying" at the holiday were less impressive, although there is (self)humor in it. (Halina Reijn)

Interesting book, mediocre movie.

Movies with euthanasia as a subject are the new rage in the movie world. This Dutch movie is an adaptation of Ronald Giphart's book. It is as if the director and writers only took a look at a summary of the book, and decided that they would only follow the storyline, but change everything else. Characters in de movie do not share any resemblance with their book counter-parts. The characters are all very one dimensional and rather uninteresting. Tijn Doctor as Giph is the miscast of the century (already). He never succeeds in getting the attention of the audience, and when you have the biggest part in a movie, that might be a problem. The biggest crime in this movie is the fact that they sugarcoated the rather depressive ending in the book, and they removed almost everything that was funny to read.

The only reason to watch this movie is the fact that this was Willem van de Sande Bakhuyzen's last movie.

not watchable

Sex and swearing are the main problem of dutch cinema. It's very common here, to disguise the amateur level of most movies with it. This movie is a typical example of a common dutch movie. The book is great, Ronald Giphart is an excellent writer. The movie is very bad, without dimensions in characters/storyline/dialogs. It's a pain to watch, so I recommend it if you're too happy for the moment. Technical speaking, the movie is also not acceptable. Most time, you can't hear Giphs voice because it's just to soft. Also some very basic cinema rules are just ignored. Bad headroom, bad lightning and wrong misleading camera angles. Overall, the movie frustrated me while viewing. Don't like it in any way.
