I saw The Darkside at the Portobello Film festival in London,Uk in 2004.Really atmospheric short.there was hardly any talking in the film but I felt uneasy watching it because the atmosphere was so strong.The lead actress was very good.I really believed in her and felt the terror her character was conveying on screen.The sounds in this film are really good;way above the normal sounds and atmos one usually hears in short films.It was Chris Cunningham-like.Very Aphex twin in its look and feel.It looked great too.It was shoot on digital but it did not move the way digital normally moves.it was more filmic in approach.i believe it was shot in Dublin but the locations were not the typical places you would expect! I'd really recommend checking this film out if you get the chance.

At last an Irish short that doesn't feature the famine,the troubles or leprechauns.I have never seen a film from Ireland,let alone a short film,that looked and sounded as cool as this one.I saw it amongst a bunch of other shorts recently and was really amazed by it.I first though it was going to be a star wars rip off what with a name like the darkside.This film has no connection at all to star wars.its probably closer to invasion of the body snatchers.The Darkside manages to cram into 5 minutes what most of the other films take 15 to 20 minutes to achieve.The lack of dialogue(OK,there is a little bit)and emphasis on mood meant that myself and my two danish friends could sit and understand and enjoy the film without any problems.I just love dark looking films like this.Everything seemed gritty.The main actress had a great face.I wanna see more stuff from this shields guy.Has he made any features?
