Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • Sometimes there are close calls, such as ice falling from the crane and hitting crew.
  • During Season 6, Jake on the Northwestern cuts his wrist with a knife accidently, and blood is shown on his hand and the floor.
  • During one of the first seasons, a crew member severely sprains his ankle, and it is shown bruised and swollen.
  • On more than one occasion, crew members puke.
  • During season 7, Mike from the Time Bandit gets his face slammed against the sorting table. He receives a deep cut very close to his eye, and is seen bleeding profusely. During the same episode, a crew member on the Northwestern gets hit in the face with a picking hook, and his nose is seen grotesquely broken and bleeding.
  • During an early season, Jake Anderson and Matt Bradley on the Northwestern get into a violent fight involving choking and punching.
  • During season 8, a Wizard crew member suffering from seizure-like symptoms is being rescued by the coast guard. Before they lift him to the chopper, he says he has to pee. They turn him on his side to assist, and the stream of urine can be seen.
  • During season 8, a Kodiak crew member gets his finger pinched in between a pot and the rack, severing the tip of his finger. The bloody stump is shown in detail, along with the severed portion.

Profanity

  • A lot of profanity, but everything is bleeped out.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Once in a while the members are seen in bars with drinks. During a later season, the crew of the Kodiak get drunk in said bar, and are seen stumbling and slurring their words.
  • No drugs are seen being used, but during season 6, Jake Harris of the Cornelia Marie confesses to his father that he is a drug user.
  • Nearly every crew member is seen smoking at some point.
  • During season 7, the interim captain of the Cornelia Marie searches the boat for drugs, and finds a baggie with pariphanelia and lighters in it. He claims that it smells of marijuana.
  • The season 8 episode 'revelations' contains many drug references including Edgar telling his story of a drug meltdown in a hotel room.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • On two occasions boats sink, and as the Coast Guard searches for survivors, two men are found dead in the water. Their bodies are lifted into the helicopter, but are blurred out.
  • During season 6, Captain Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie suffers a stroke while the boat is in harbor offloading. He is taken to a hospital in Anchorage, where he is seen after surgery with a large scar on his scalp and a large divot in his head where a piece of skull was removed. He eventually passes away.
  • On 2 occasions, crew members fall overboard, though both times the men are saved.
  • During season 6, Jake Harris and Jake Anderson, who had swapped boats, swap back by getting in survival suits and going into the water. During Andersons' turn, he is out of sight for several seconds, and is in real danger of being sucked under.
  • During season 8, a greenhorn on the Wizard walks off deck claiming to be in pain. He then begins to convulse and twitch in a seizure-like episode, with his hands clenching and him not being able to speak clearly. The crew attempts to help him, but he does not improve and has to be rescued by the coast guard.
