A classic him or him challenge in the mind of an any bride.
ducuboss17 October 2005
I have to say from the start that the movie is not so bad ... but it has the classic situations and problems that the girls have when they chose the man that will be all in their lives . The plot is good and want's to improve the latest movies that had the same issue but I think they failed to do that because the actors are not so realistic in the way they act .

After the first 20 minutes of the movie i said ... well i should be going home by now because i already know who she will chose from the two so there's noting to see but my friends made me stay and i don't regret this because the second part of the movie was a bit more funny and interesting i could say .

In the end i will say that you could wait to see this movie at home alone if you don't have anything to do at that time , it will make time passing a little more quickly than normal .

The one that got away
PudgyPandaMan14 December 2008
I felt this was a decent attempt for a made-for-TV movie. It wasn't without its faults though. I didn't care much for the constant narrating by the lead, Shannon Elizabeth. I think it is a cheap effect to feel the need to help the audience understand what is going on, when if the script is written well it shouldn't be necessary in the first place. Just a little too cheesy.

I thought the fiancé did a great job of acting. Who can resist the chin dimple - too cute. The "other guy" didn't have to do much but stand there and look hunky. The bride-to-be did okay, but sometimes the delivery of her lines didn't come across very natural. I thought the 50s dream sequence that I guess was supposed to be based on "I love Lucy" was completely out of place and just weird. I think it was supposed to be funny.

True, this is a story that has been done, and redone over and over. But I think there is enough here to make it worth watching. It is a theme that a lot of women (and men) can relate to.

Guide to writing a screenplay
donfie6 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
There are elements of the plot in this review but I can't see you making it to the end so it might not be a bad idea to just read this and skip the actual movie.

Sam has the man of her dreams. He proposes to her and she turns into a crazed bride to be. This drives her fiancé away so what does she do, she kisses someone else (which is, obviously, his fault too). She says her mother only notices her sister and not her but I didn't actually see her mother talk to the sister once. When the engagement is called off, her fiancé comes to see her and, in the most clichéd style of these kinds of films, she let's him go to stop hurting him more which is clearly a self centred act and...

It goes on. The key to a movie that people will actually be able to watch to the end is to have a protagonist that has some characteristics that one can empathise with or at least admire. Hannibal ate people but he had immense style and culture. Sam, in this film, has absolutely NO redeeming characteristics at all! When it all falls apart (because of her) she decides to have a go at the guy she wanted before.

Does she decide that she has made a mistake because she has been a complete and utter b*tch? No, she only decides when she finds out that the "dream guy" is actually not very nice.

What is the future for this couple? At the first sign of any problems she will look somewhere else then, when it all go wrong, she'll go back and the idiot Ben will take her back.

I hated Sam. I wanted Ben to leave her and find someone who he deserved. I wanted her to settle with Luke who would treat her like she treated Ben. I wanted her to have a very, very unhappy ever after.

On top of hating the main character, the film itself was absolute rubbish too. I assume this was supposed to be a romantic comedy but it wasn't (either romantic - idiot doormat man takes completely self obsessed woman - or comedic).

I often wonder at the waste of film used to make garbage like this and I suggest the writers re-familiarise themselves with the concept of a heroine.

Sickening and really bad acting by the "star"
OXO_on_Lsd1 August 2006
I used to like Shannon when she was younger, but she seems to become a worse actress as she has gotten older (something I thought was impossible for anyone).

This woman is now totally unbelievable as an actress and casting her as some girl next door character just doesn't work anymore (especially when you see how difficult it was for the makeup people to hide the bags under her eyes).

The plot was totally unbelievable too and how this film ever got funded is beyond me.

I must say that I actually fell asleep watching this and decided to watch the bits I missed simply because I wanted to warn people to stay away from this film.

Do yourself a favour and go watch paint dry.

I agree with the 'go watch paint dry' comment

OKay so I LOVE chick flicks, I think the worst movies are great... and I thought this movie was awful... absolutely brutal... I have a problem with turning off shows before they're done, and I full-out turned it off to go to bed... when I got up I decided I could sit through a few more minutes of it to at least see if it ended any better.

I was wrong. The lead female can barely call herself an actress, I couldn't even handle how awful she was.

The plot was way too predictable, even for me ha ha SKIP this one, but if you really want to see it, buy it off me, I got mine for $4 and it wasn't even worth that.

Stupid and Boring- simply put!
mr_dark_eyed21 July 2009
I guess I can't describe it in a better or shorter clearer way: Boring and Stupid. Acting? what acting? why are all the actors laughing while Reading their lines??? they just never stopped laughing or smiling even when it was the most "dramatic" moment! The "plot" was one of the most predictable plots in the history of TV. and not only is Sam a total $lut, but ugly as hell too!! what happened to that "actress"?? I remember she was hot in American Pie. here she is so damn ugly!!!! puffy face full of bags, or whatever these are. and the happy ending?? no one to tell the poor viewers that these 2 are doomed??? very soon he will wonder why he took her back (because she was hot in American Pie?? or because he used to drool over her topless pics when he was younger, on the internet??) He will soon start wondering if she ever slept with that Luke, but hiding it from him. He will soon start seeing how shallow and self centered she is. and he will hate how everyone just knows him as the husband who married the woman who kissed the other guy. (is there anyone who didn't know about her thing with Luke??) then he will start seeing other girls attractive and charming (and caring)! then he will start flirting, and maybe kissing them, making Sam taste her own poison. then will she accept his apology? or act like an ugly B!tch and go out again and kiss or flirt with the first sleazy a$$hole she meets??? so.. the actors can't act. the plot is so weak and predictable. you hate the Bride for being s|utty and selfish. the Groom for being an idiot. the 3rd person for being an arrogant dumb a$$hole.

sorry for all the swearing. but this "film" suxxxx. Big time.

In the great heritage of wedding films, here comes Confessions of An American Bride.
oso_travis17 January 2007
There have been great classics in this sub-genre. Father of the Bride, the original, and its two remakes with the just appropriate Steve Martin. Muriel's Wedding, directed by Hogan, with the great Toni Collette. And My Best Friend's Wedding with Hollywood princess, Julia Roberts. And then this TV movie that has a shining Shannon Elizabeth, that proves the audience a good range of acting.

The film's finest and funniest moments come from the whole crazy rush on the wedding's arrangements. Just shows how a pain in the ass is to get married! The two families becoming relatives now thing, was very funny too.

Shannon Elizabeth and her "fiancée" Eddie McClintock show some sparks and very good chemistry. Good acting and good writing make it up for a predictable, conventional premise in a well-directed film that is so self-aware and not serious that is really a delight of charming and funny moments. A good one.

well...
PennyReviews5 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The story: Sam finds her prince and she is organizing her perfect wedding. But she has also to prepare the new project for her company as well, a real career opportunity. And to top it all, an old flame of hers comes and makes everything even more difficult. The good parts: The story is quite easy and entertaining by itself. The line of the events doesn't confuse and keeps the interest at a certain level. The bad news: The performances are weak, the confession part cheesy and seem like it was made by someone still wet behind the ears, the whole scenario lucks originality and it is not funny. But, even if it's not a movie that I'm going to watch again, it is okay for a boring afternoon, so 2 out of 10, for the effort.

True confessions? This viewer liked this movie quite bit, being a romcom addict as I am
inkblot1129 August 2010
Samantha (Shannon Elizabeth) has dreamed of becoming a bride since childhood. After all, she was the one who donned a miniature wedding gown to go trick-or-treating. But, as she finds out early, sometimes you get a chocolate bar, sometimes you are stuck with an apple. Same goes for romance. Still, Sam is always hopeful and even uses Here Comes the Bride as her telephone ringtone. Finally, she finds Mr. Right, Ben (Eddie McClintock) and begins planning the IDEAL wedding. Everything must be perfect, from the gown to the flowers to the setting. Ben is pretty willing to help with the ordeal, so that's nice. In fact, when they find a good apartment, the couple even moves in together to pool expenses. But, naturally, complications arrive. First, Sam, an ad lady, gets a very important account that will require a good deal of her time. Then, when she finally meets the client, Luke, he turns out to be a gentleman who made googly eyes at her in college and visa versa. As Sam and Ben get deeper into the wedding plans, a few squabbles naturally come their way, resulting in doubts about the whole thing. Also, will Luke stir up trouble, too, for does he still have his eye on Sam? This is really a nice romcom which most females on the planet can appreciate. From infancy, almost, women dream of the day they will walk down the aisle and this flick pays homage to that irresistible fantasy. Ms. Elizabeth and Mr. McClintock make a very fine twosome and the rest of the cast is nice as well. The production looks good, with terrific costumes, settings, and camera work, and the script and direction are lively and true. All in all, if you can confess to being a romcom addict, like me, look for this nice movie at the usual outlets. You will be glad you did.

Immature "Disney TV" acting for a supposed adult character getting married
EmDee-427-46934426 April 2018
The female lead talks to the camera like a teenager on a Disney channel show. Giggling stupidly at things that aren't funny, making odd excited facial expressions (and other supposed emotions that look faked here). Talking in a little girl high pitched voice.

Anyway, she's engaged to a "nice" guy, seemingly because he was nice (and that is all the shallow basis she needs for a life-long relationship). He let her do whatever she wanted - the female dream according to Hollywood.

Along comes a guy she had a crush on in the past and Mr nice Guy is suddenly Mr boring and the crush is some inflated dream of a man. In the end she and Mr Nice Guy are back together because the crush was a fake nice guy. Let's be real, he was the male equivalent of self-centred her.

This movie is an example of why the divorce rates will continue being high, people living in fantasies rather than getting married to people they really love. Expecting excitement every day instead of life. Juvenile adults all about themselves and their own wants.

Hardly a movie young women or men should be watching and thinking is romantic.

Very well done!
nycgrl727 July 2005
I was totally prepared to dislike this movie, why? No clue. but Shannon Elizabeth is quite charming and adorable and the guys? Not too shabby either both very cute and both engaging in their prospective roles, one as the lovable yet somewhat clueless fiancé and the other as the hunk who got away. There are performances by some women in the film, you know the usual bitchy and catty lot and the one real cool one. It plays well and quickly and in usual TV movie it has the problem as well as the rush to a resolution as the movie is nearly done. But all in all it is a fun time. I have proof! My boyfriend watched and laughed! He laughed although he pretended not to watch it. I suggest to go out and pick it up as it's on DVD!!!
