Ambitious but ultimately mediocre
milkhole21319 October 2021
Shadowhunters is an ambitious but ultimately mediocre horror film from the Tomb of Terrors box set. It at least tries with its confusing mythology involving demon hunters, a demon named Malfeitor and a bunch of cute sorority girls running around almost the entire film in their underwear. One of them named Sera (played by the sexy Rebecca Taylor) has a dark secret. Once you get past the horribly filmed opening and the fact that the shadowhunters look like complete tools wearing trench coats and fedoras this is actually passable. Having cute college girls run around half naked (and occasionally topless) helps with the doldrums. There's a fair amount of action and bloodshed. There's also demons possessing people including a hilariously bad scene of a demon strangling two girls at once. Almost the entire movie takes place in an office building. The acting is decent for this sort of thing but often stiff and trying too hard to be funny. The average low budget horror viewer will probably find this much more "digestible" than most of the rotten gruel in the Tomb of Terrors box set.

Indie Horror At Its Finest!

Warning: Spoilers
Mood. Atmosphere. Believable acting. One of the best played-out "death scenes" ("Kimberly") I've seen in a film (which shows the audience without entirely showing...). This one was a dark pleasure to watch. Without giving away spoilers, if you like trench coats, fedoras, lingerie, beautiful women and demon possession in your flicks, it's definitely worth it. And if those aren't your fancy, try it and they just might be! Indie films are near & dear to me. "John Johnson's Shadowhunters" is another reason why. The downside of the DVD version is there is only one deleted scene. There are, however, other special features to check out.

shadow hunters, a film for you to watch

Warning: Spoilers
To keep this review in layman's terms, the artwork on the cover of the DVD seems a lot more exciting than the film at times. For seemingly a self released film the camera work and lighting are very good, special effects aren't bad. There are bits of cheese to it,and way to many sub plots. Iam not a film "critic", if anything check this out, there will be something you'll enjoy, most likely not the boobs though. Most notable performance Will Smith(ray) and the guy who shits his pants.I think this film has AMAZING BONUS FEATURES....

*********I would like to see John Johnson's film with the vampires riding horseback, but i cannot get ahold of it.

Without saying much about the actual film....

When I was browsing the Ithaca Hollywood Video, I saw something glow in the Horror section. Ahh yes, John Johnson's, Shadow Hunters.

I instantly took it off the shelves before anyone could get there paws on it.

When the film was all through, I'd been struck with energy and built up enough courage to call that Liam fuckerr and tell him what I thought. From beginning to end it flowed smoothly. I really enjoyed the professional Photoshoping and perfect animated credits. It's well worth the purchase.

Buy it.

Definitely worth a watch.

I got this movie as part of the "Tomb or Terrors" 50 pack. It's one of the more worthwhile titles on there. The acting can be stiff at times, but that plays to the 40's noir style of some of the characters. The F/X are "hokey" to the right degree and overall it's a fun story, with some likable characters, a fairly high body count and good pace.

The movie is shot very well the budget range I would guess it's in. The audio has it's moments of imperfections, but nothing that causes you to miss lines. If you like indie horror to begin with I think you'll enjoy this one.

I'd like to see a sequel.

Excellent

Awesome! Those were the first words I uttered after having the pleasure of watching John Johnson's Shadowhunters. It brings back the good old days of trench coat wearing, gun slinging demon hunters. And a good sense of old fashion pulpy horror. I'm not sure the budget on the flick but for a LB production, it spouted a excellent look and direction by Mr. Johnson. The actors are great to along with the FX. Absolutely check this soon to be cult classic out, brain-damage films did a nice job with the DVD to boot. A+ Trench coats, guns, nudity... hell yeah!! I look forward to what Johnson will bring to us in future years, stay tuned kiddies.

The Start of a Great Trend
tcoll3225 August 2008
I was at a convention last year in the Baltimore MD area (no mean feet considering I live outside of Boston MA)and came across a table with the name Darkstone Entertainment on it. They had 2 films for sale (at a very reasonable price I might add) so I decided to get both the films. The first was the famous Skeleton Key 1 and the other was Shadowhunters. SK I thought was funny and crazy (for the rest of my feeling please see review on SK page) but Shadowhunters grabbed me. This wasn't trying to be funny even though there was the occasional chuckle (intended by the filmmakers). This film is about demon hunters who are trying to protect all of us from the ultimate nightmare inspiring evil. This is probably my favorite of the Darkstone flicks which says a lot since I am now a drool induced fanatic for all things from the D Zone.
