[In case you've Forgotten, and as I will continue to mention each and every one of these posts that I do: This is *not* a review. Pilots change. Sometimes a lot. Often for the better. Sometimes for the worse. But they change. Actual reviews will be coming in September and perhaps October (and maybe midseason in some cases). This is, however, a brief gut reaction to not-for-air pilots. I know some people will be all "These are reviews." If you've read me, you've read my reviews and you know this isn't what they look like.] Show: "Gotham" (Fox) The Pitch: There's a tradition of existentializing comics, be it The Nietzsche Family Circus or 3eanuts or Garfield Without Garfield. So... "It's Batman without Batman." Quick Response: It's a good news/bad news situation with "Gotham." The good news is that I mostly enjoyed the "Gotham" pilot as written by Bruno Heller and directed by Danny Cannon. The ads aren't doing a great job of showcasing how good it looks, the job Cannon has done of creative a Gotham that looks interesting and distinctive but also, at least in theory, should be reproducible on a series budgets. The adds aren't showing how solid and sturdy Ben McKenzie is as James Gordon, nor the somewhat crazed glint Donal Logue has in his eyes as Harvey Bullock. They aren't showcasing the still-badass ex-Royal Marine Alfred Pennyworth has become in Sean Pertwee's hands. You wouldn't even know Erin Richards was in "Gotham,...

Home to some of the friendliest people on Earth, Newcastle has fought through good and bad image problems to remain an industrial city at heart – and one that the 280,000-odd people who live here are fiercely proud to call home.
From a great big copper-looking Angel that’ll be the first thing you see when you travel up the motorway, to a bloke dressed like a copper called Angel working down Boulevard, we’ve got it all and then some. From overblown university lifestyles that let students paint the town red, black and white on a nightly basis through to the proper diehard Newcastle United-tattooed workers who built the city from the ground up and left their legacy on full show, there’s not another city in England with as much unrelenting personality and all-round warmth.

In the Flesh, Season 2: Episode 6 – “Episode 6″
Written by Dominic Mitchell
Directed by Alice Troughton
Awaiting renewal/cancellation announcement
And so the game of “Who is the First Risen?” continues and makes those of us with assumptions look like idiots. Appropriately, this finale doesn’t definitively say that Kieren is the man many people are looking for, nor does it definitively say Amy wasn’t that person and that the Second Rising is all just a bunch of nonsense. It’s not unusual to have many questions about this kind of plot detail, but the fact that that is such an important response to this finale shows where Dominic Mitchell has taken In the Flesh in its second season: slightly away from the family drama that made its first season so moving and more into the territory of expansive world- and myth-building. Based on that shift, “Episode 6″ is actually a...

I am going to share with you a hypothetical scenario. As I do, imagine yourself in this scenario. You can choose to be any one of the characters involved in the scenario, but I challenge you not to feel the raw emotion of the moment…
Andrew is suffering from the loss of his mother, who recently died of cancer. At Andrew’s request, his girlfriend Hannah, his two best friends Dave and Owen, and their two girlfriends Emily and Zoe, all meet up at a rented house in the rural desert to support Andrew in his time of grief. What they all find out is that Andrew, as a way to cope with the pain and sadness of his loss, would like to sleep with all three women, Hannah, Emily and Zoe, simultaneously, in an effort to help him heal, emotionally, by submerging himself in overwhelming love.
Now, in whose shoes are you standing?...

For over 50 years, Backstage has been actors’ most trusted source for advice and information. Now Backstage University takes it one step further. Headed by Backstage’s Director of Education and Events Tom Lapke, Backstage University (Bu) “gives performers the opportunity to learn from the expertise of the working industry professionals that represent and audition actors every day.” “They not only have the opportunity to learn about broader industry knowledge, such as how to give their best on-camera auditions, but also about some of the idiosyncrasies of each casting office,” says Lapke, who joined Backstage in 2012. “Little things like knowing how each office prefers to be communicated with, or whether they like full cover letters or just a Post-it Note on your headshot, can be the small thing that ends up getting you called in.” Launched in July 2013 as a way to further assist working actors, Bu uses Backstage’s resources...

Writer Greg Weisman is best known for creating Disney's epic 1990s series Gargoyles, but he's also worked on a ton of other projects over the course of his career. I've been a fan of his work since Gargoyles, and he recently published a book called Rain of the Ghosts that I think a lot of you would enjoy. He has also been working on the highly anticipated Star Wars Rebels animated series for Disney and Lucasfilm, which is sure to be a hit.
Weisman was kind enough to take the time to answer a few questions for us regarding Gargoyles, Rain of the Ghosts and Star Wars Rebels. He shares his thoughts on a Gargoyles feature film, goes into detail about his new book, talks about his excitement for Star Wars Rebels, and answers a few other general questions. Our exclusive interview is definitely an interesting read, so check it out below!

Vitals is a new claustrophobic horror movie from director Mark Morgenstern. The film stars Christopher Showerman as Richard Carsen, a man who’s trying save his on-the-rocks marriage by taking his wife on vacation to India. Unfortunately, he winds up on ice and about to be harvested for his organs.
Morgenstern recently directed a documentary on the effects of infidelity in the electronic age. It’s called Affairs Across America: The Ashley Madison Story and is centered around the multimillionaire internet guru who started the infamous non-singles dating website with the slogan: “Life is short. Have an affair.”
Perhaps that was the impetus for making his lead character/victim in Vitals a cheating husband. We asked. Read on to find out what Morgenstern said.
Dread Central: So, Morgenstern… any relation to Rhoda? I’m sure you never heard that before; I just thought I'd throw out that little brilliant, totally unique joke of mine.

Getting an early start on her weekend, Victoria Justice showed up at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood on Thursday night (March 13).
The “Victorious” hottie was a bit shy as she encountered the paparazzi stationed outside the celebrity-favorite hotspot, looking sly in a black leather jacket and grey jeans.
Earlier this week, Victoria took to her Keek account to share a helpful quote from the book she’s currently reading, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff: Simple Ways to Keep the Little Things From Taking Over Your Life.”
She declared, "Oh Hello there! Welcome to Victoria's book club… ‘Become aware of your moods, and don't allow yourself to be fooled by the low ones. Your own moods can become completely deceptive; they can, and probably do trick you into believing your life is far worse than it really is. If you've seen indie horror films like A Horrible Way to Die, You're Next, or either V/H/S anthology, then you're already familiar with filmmaking partners Simon Barrett (screenwriter) and Adam Wingard (director). Along with their frequent collaborators (like producer Keith Calder and a bunch of cool actors), Barrett and Wingard have been more than content to create the sort low-budget cool concepts that generally go over really well at festivals and then again on home video. But no more. The gentlemen have temporarily turned their attention on something best described as (yes), a "thriller," but thankfully it's a pretty damn cool thriller.

Neil Labute’s latest film, Some Velvet Morning, is a wild and sometimes shocking ride, starring Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness), both in roles that twist and turn their way through the relationship drama. In the film, which was written and directed by Labute, Tucci plays a man who drops in unexpectedly on his former lover (Eve) after leaving his wife. The two are well-matched as they repartee their way through a gorgeous Park Slope brownstone, with a George and Martha from Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf-type fierceness, minus the alcoholism.

Oh, One Direction...These boys have stolen our hearts with their songs, dance moves, and of course—they're accents! We mean, who could resist five guys who start by telling you what makes you beautiful, that you light up their lives like nobody else, and that it's the "Little Things"? Uh, let us all be hopeless romantics and suckers for sweet talkers. Although we have much love for 1D, these heartthrobs are just five of the teen idols who have become a part of our world. Other young standout stars include Taylor Swift—especially after her breakup with Harry Styles. We turned our ears to T.Swift and sang out the heartbreak alongside her. But of course, there...

Last month, June Squibb told us that her character on season three of Girls, Hannah's grandmother, will be very sick. (It sounds like she'll most likely die.) Last night, at a screening of Nebraska, we got another little update: Grandma will meet Adam. "The grandmother is actually in a hospital," she told Vulture. "And [Hannah's] mother and the mother's two sisters and Hannah and Hannah’s boyfriend all come ... Adam, he was in the scene." As for Grandma, she's "sort of a snippy lady, really," says Squibb. "She kept saying things about Hannah's weight. You know, 'You look a little heavy since I last saw you.' Little things like that." She sounds awful. But good to know Adam "I was always here" Sackler is still there for moral support. Hopefully shirtless.

Elementary, Season 2: Episode 6 – “An Unnatural Arrangement”
Written by Cathryn Humphris
Directed by Christine Moore
Airs Thursday nights at 10 on CBS
Despite the fact that there are four regular cast members included in Elementary‘s title credits, it would be a stretch to say that Gregson and Bell are anything more than supporting characters in this series (and, really, supporting characters that are rarely used in any meaningful way). So, when an episode like “An Unnatural Arrangement” comes along and focuses on Gregson, it is an interesting mix-up by default.
The episode itself stacks up rather well, too. Apart from the weird inclusion of the red herring character who is essentially stalking Gregson, the story that “An Unnatural Arrangement” has to tell is engaging, if cliche. (Note: the reason the red herring is a weird inclusion here is because it is set up to be more important than it ends...

One Direction just keeps putting out hit after hit. Their new song, ‘Story of My Life’ was released on Oct. 25 and it’s already become one of my favorites — and I’ve got a feeling this will be a fan favorite.

One Direction’s ‘Story Of My Life’ Is Perfect
I’ve got to say, I have high expectations every time a new 1D song hits the web. This one is very different for the boys.
Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Niall showcase something they haven’t yet in the song — it’s their first part-ballad-part-pop-song hit!

X Factor singer Kazeem Ajobe has addressed his past actions ahead of the Live Shows.
The 25-year-old Rough Copy member explained how he has been in trouble with the law for assault and drugs charges in the past.
Rough Copy were forced to miss out on the Live Shows last year after Ajobe had visa issues. He was also unable to travel with the group to sing at Judges' Houses for Gary Barlow this year.
However, Barlow decided to put through the group with Ajobe, despite his bandmates Sterling and Joey performing as a duo in New York.
Ajobe received a caution for assault on a man outside a train station back in 2006, and was handed 250 hours of community service for affray a year later. In 2010, he was fined for possessing cannabis.

Earlier this week, I got the chance to check out Sony Animation’s follow-up to Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, in order to help you guys determine whether it’s worth your time to take your kids, and more importantly, how much of your sanity parents will retain after seeing it. Come inside to check out my thoughts on the quirky little sequel.
The Basics
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up where Sony Pictures Animation's mouth-watering comedy left off. The timeless Lynda Carter is synonymous with the iconic Wonder Woman of the hit '70s TV show, and she's also a true Wonder Woman in real life, partnering with DC Entertainment's We Can Be Heroes campaign to fight the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa. The character has failed to be rebooted for the big screen time and time again in a very high-profile way, and Lynda tells Et, "They miss the point of Wonder Woman."

The subject of age in film has always been a fascinating one to me. Hollywood tries so hard to focus on the next up-and-coming star or starlet, glorifying them in HD on the big screen. We as audiences are looking to stay forever young through the films we watch too, focusing on what we can do to make ourselves look thinner and younger, just like these celebrities.
That's why films like Still Mine are important to me. It's not often that you see a film that focuses on the struggle of the later years in life, when family has grown up and moved on. In a film world full of romantic comedies often centered on young people, we don't often hear the stories of the ones who have lived through the most.

‘The X Factor’ boasted major sets of pipes tonight — plus some down-home Southern charm — that got 4 nods of approval for everyone!
The talent on tonight’s episode of ‘X Factor’ was mostly out of control, and Simon Cowell was super-gushy toward everyone, prompting me to think that the soon-to-be dad is starting to get in touch with his innermost sweet feelings. He even gave someone a second shot — what?!
South Carolina Charm
The first yes of the night went to a rugged South Carolina high school senior, 18-year-old Andrew Scholz. He was so handsome, in fact, that it distracted the female judges a bit at first, will Kelly Rowland calling him a “Corn-fed country boy” with a look of love in her eyes! However, when he sang “Too Close,” it was more country boy at a karaoke bar and the ladies were hesitant — making Andrew sadly look like he just...

This one was only an hour! But Simon ‘n’ Friends still managed to serve up a hearty helping of drain-circling matter along with one, maybe two promising singers. Ashly Williams, 24, delivered the only truly stirring audition of the night — even if the producers hadn’t launched into an edited segment about her murdered mother (we are really to believe Simon didn’t know and had to beg her to mention something “interesting” about herself? this is such pure trash! dying! help! it hurts!), I would have enjoyed the way she vocally purred and throbbed her way through Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.

I can't be the only person who thinks the X Factor's doubled-up 'super-size' auditions aren't working.
Everything you need from an X Factor audition comes on Saturday night. Emotional stories, weeping judges, silly acts, powerful performances. And then along comes Sunday. With the same acts. And the same stories.
Even when there is a twist in the tale, such as likeable bus driver James Macdonald getting the boot on Sunday night, it feels slightly odd and hypocritical of the judges.
On Saturday, a tearful James was praised by Gary Barlow for understanding how important an opportunity The X Factor can be. On Sunday, he was booted out by Gary Barlow for lacking star power and not cutting the mustard. What changed?
Thankfully, The X Factor judges didn't offer him the Bullseye consolation prize of a Bfh (bus fare home). That would have just been rubbing it in.

Between Nsync reuniting (however briefly) and the One Direction documentary hitting theaters this weekend, EW’s PopWatch is getting a serious wave of nostalgia—and the urge to revive one of the most important debates: What is the all-time greatest boy band?
Any good fan girl (or guy!) knows this debate is about so much more than just the hits; there’s things like group appearance, harmonies, music videos and dance moves to consider. While an EW writer will be advocating for each, the final decision is up to you. Each day a band wins the vote, they’ll receive a point.

Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson were mere children when they auditioned for The X Factor in 2010, with the exception of Louis, who was just 18. For reference, Louis is currently 21, with the youngest members of 1D still sitting at 19.
These boys literally have been working ever since the day they auditioned, hardly sleeping, travelling the world, and forming fierce friendships. According to One Direction: This Is Us, they have barely seen their families as they’ve aged into adulthood – and this is what’s so riveting about the documentary, also known as 1D:3D.
Directed by Morgan Spurlock, the film follows the band on their 2013 Take Me Home international tour, during which they were also working on their upcoming third album. The film opens with a recap of the band’s formation for any non-fans in the audience, and continues with a mix of interviews with the members,...

Zayn even opened up—Ok a tiny bit—about his fiancée Perrie Edwards. 'We're engaged," he said shyly. "We're really happy. And, yeah, that's...

One Direction's Liam Payne has reacted angrily to Channel 4's documentary about the band's fans.

Taking to Twitter today, Payne said that the This Is Us stars "couldn't give a f**k" about the programme, and branded the documentary "bulls**t".
The 19-year-old, whose bandmates are Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik, said: "Just so all of you know we love you guys and we know how dedicated you are and tbh we can't believe it that you gus [sic] spend all you time on us.
"We couldn't give a f**k what any documentary says there dramatised for entertainment and full of bulls**t anyway we all know...How hard you work for us and see it everyday at our shows.

Taking a break from their parental duties, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale treated themselves to a romantic stroll in London, England on Monday (July 29).
The stylish “Hella Good” singer wore her bleached blonde hair hippie-style with a thin headband as she held hands with her “Little Things” rocker hubby.
Earlier this year, Gwen told press it was difficult for her to cope when Gavin hit the road with his band Bush, their first tour in a decade.
“I mean, he was there for me mentally, but physically? These boys are physical. They wake up and they start punching each other! One thing we’ve had in our relationship the whole time is that we can have it both ways: together, not together, and it’s fine. But when you have kids? It’s not so great. They need him.”...

While the Assassin's Creed franchise has been criticized (and rightfully so) for pumping out too many annual installments, I can't help but get excited after watching the new 13 minute trailer for their latest entry, Black Flag. Sure, it's a lot of the same things we've been doing for 7 years now. Lots of sneaking up on people in bushes, getting all stabby stabby in midair, finding viewpoints all across the map, etc, etc. There is a certain thing to be said however for refinement, and that is exactly what Ubisoft has done with AC IV. Little things like making newly discovered viewpoints also act as points of fast travel, or enhancing the ship combat to be much more visceral and interactive, while also making the transition from land to sea as smooth as can be. The combat gets even more hectic and fun with Edward Kenway's numerous pistols, and I love...

Britain's Got Talent finalist Jordan O'Keefe has revealed that he could have been a member of One Direction.
The singer recalled how he spoke to Niall Horan during the audition process of The X Factor in 2010.
However, O'Keefe did not go through to the next round, and was disappointed to see Horan and other young male singers being put into a new group together, later becoming the biggest boyband in the world.
"We were stood next to each other and he was playing his guitar. I asked if I could borrow it to play something," he told The Sun.
"We got chatting. He went on to find fame in One Direction and I went home and cried after not getting through. It was so hard.
"I kept seeing him when boot camp was on TV and told my mum that was the boy I'd met.

As DreamWorks' Epic arrives in the UK, James thinks back to other movies where their characters are shrunk to miniscule size...
You can do a lot with little. A little can go a long, long way. Anyone who's ever tasted wasabi knows this to be true, but I'm not here to serve you sushi - I'm here to discuss cinema and size up the issue of size and the beauty of little things on the big screen.
I'm moved to do so as cinemas show Epic - the fresh animated family-friendly adventure film from Blue Sky Studios. There's irony in the title as the movie - an adaptation of William Joyce's book The Leaf Men And The Brave Good Bugs - is actually about miniscule warriors who live in a forest. Los Angeles, May 8: Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has refused to help One Direction band members finish their third album as he wants to make his own album.
The singer, who wrote One Direction's first single "Little Things", wants to write the songs for his own collection.
"I haven't done any songs on this one. I've actually kind of cut myself off from giving people any songs at the moment because I want to make my album," thesun.co.uk quoted Sheeran as saying.
"I was approached and it wasn't so much a, 'No'. It was just a, 'I want to write tunes for myself at the moment'," he added.
