The documentary is scarier and more interesting than the movie
AlsExGal22 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This documentary is one of the scariest haunting stories of which I've heard, and is probably the best episode in Discovery's haunting series. I will warn you that there are spoilers ahead.

The premise of the story that the Snedeker family needs to move closer to where the oldest son, Stephen, is being treated for cancer. The family thinks they have found the answer to their prayers when they find a large home that has just been remodeled that is being leased for a very reasonable price. However, they soon learn the reason for the bargain. The house is a former funeral home. However, with the expense of the son's cancer treatment weighing heavily on the family budget, the Snedekers are unable to afford breaking their lease and moving to yet another house. Demons soon invade their domicile - or they invade the demons' domicile, depending on how you look at it - until the supernatural detectives, the Warrens, are called in and with the help of an exorcism, restore peace to the household.

Just as much as fright, though, I felt a great deal of anger at the Snedekers as parents. For one thing, Mr. Snedeker seems to believe that the size of his electricity bill is more important than the mental health of a child recovering from cancer since he removes all of the light bulbs from the basement bedroom so that Stephen can no longer sleep with the lights on. Then he forces the boy to continue sleeping in this bedroom in spite of his tales of horror of being tormented by apparitions coming from the former embalming room adjacent to his basement bedroom. He does this in spite of the fact that he and his wife have both personally been the victims of attacks and witnesses of various manifestations of the house's spirits. Afterwards, in despair, the boy just gives in to the demons' collective will, manifesting in more and more bizarre behavior until he finally attacks a visiting cousin. How Mrs. Snedeker could have invited this young niece into her home in the first place just because she wanted the companionship and help around the house, having witnessed firsthand the mayhem that the house's demons can cause, as well as her son's deteriorating mental state, is a wonder to me.

I have read an interview with the author of a book on this haunting, which tracks this documentary closely, and he paints both the Warrens and the Snedekers in a very unflattering light in that interview. He basically says that he does not really believe the Snedekers' stories, since even the Warrens themselves told the author that they think that all of their clients are crazy including the Snedekers. Plus, apparently there was considerable drug and alcohol abuse going on in the Snedeker household and the family members would never tell the same story twice. The author only went through with writing his book because he was already legally obligated to do so.

However, even if the account told in this documentary is total fiction, it is well told and frightening fiction and I highly recommend it. It is much better than the movie which suffers from a real lack of imagination given the subject matter.

Shadowed By Evil
AaronCapenBanner1 December 2014
The Parker family moves into an old home in Connecticut in order to be closer to the hospital where their son Paul is undergoing cancer treatment. Turns out that the house used to be a funeral parlor that is haunted by several demons who proceed to terrorize the family in general, and poor Paul in particular, threatening to undo his physical improvements by damaging his mind, and forcing him out of the house altogether, which does not end the haunting... First of two specials that led to the TV series creates an effectively eerie isolated & snowy atmosphere, even if viewer gets the feeling that the whole story is not being told. Still quite good regardless.

Wow. I was NOT expecting to be that taken by this...

I went to the gym last week. I flipped on the TV for background noise, with no intention of actually watching TV. This documentary happened to be on. I overheard some of the dialouge during my first set. It made me curious, so I started watching a bit. 45 min later, and with 5 other people who had joined me, we had all abandoned our work-outs. We were glued to the TV. I'm not a fan of horror or suspense movies. I am generally a skeptic about the supernatural. I do not believe in God. However, something about this show really, really got to me (and the 5 other people at the gym!). It was the most well done, and scariest account of a co-called haunting that I have ever come across.

Very Disturbing and Very Well Made
Gafke9 May 2005
I made the serious mistake of watching this feature length documentary shortly before going to bed. I did not sleep at all that night.

This is the allegedly true story of the Parker family, whose eldest son is terribly ill and requires frequent hospital visits. In order to be closer to the hospital where he receives treatment, the entire Parker family move into a new home which is a shorter drive from the facilities. It is also conveniently located quite close to a cemetery. The house itself is a large, impressively grandiose estate, but when Mr. and Mrs. Parker head downstairs just after purchasing the home, they discover a basement room filled with an odd assortment of surgical tools and a large freezer. To their horror, the couple realize they are standing in a disused embalming room. The house was once a funeral home.

Having sunk their life savings into the purchase of their new home, The Parkers have no choice but to go ahead and move in. They decide to conceal the history of the house from their children, but odd things soon begin to occur. A kitchen floor stubbornly refuses to be cleansed of a vicious pool of blood. The sickly teenage boy, Paul, begins hearing voices, and all of the children see phantoms and shadows moving throughout the house. Paul's temper begins to fray and he grows increasingly violent. Not even removing him from the house seems to help, which his parents do after he attacks his own cousin. Instead, the forces inside of the house shift their focus, and the demonic displays of physical violence and destruction reach explosively frightening levels. By the time a team of parapsychologists arrive to investigate, it is almost too late.

This is a very eerie documentary, and incredibly well made. The mood throughout is suffocatingly dreary and filled with unrelenting dread. The performances are all quite good and somehow, genuine fear is infused into every frame. Whether it's the discovery of the embalming equipment in the basement, or a face-to-face encounter with a black-eyed demon in the darkness, this documentary will leave you with a sinking feeling of horror in the pit of your stomach and an overwhelming urge to glance around your immediate surroundings during the commercials, just to make sure there is nothing lurking in the shadowy corners.

I really had not intended to stay up and watch the entire program, but it hooked me easily and kept me watching late into the night, despite the fact that I had to get up early for work the next day. I didn't sleep that night anyway, and kept my bedside light on all night long. That's how unsettling I found this program to be, and I don't scare easily.

If you like ghost stories, historical accounts of haunted houses, and having the holy old crap scared out of you, watch this show the next time it's run on TV. It's one of the best shows of its kind I have ever seen. Be sure to catch its companion piece: A Haunting in Georgia, as well.

Scary!
cynkat22 February 2005
I watched this while alone and regretted it, although I was fascinated. This documentary is very well done and doesn't get "cute", as this genre is wont to do...it is just scary as hell. I am always amazed at these families that STAY in these houses through all this horror (literally!) The basement scenes gave me shivers and I felt bad for the boys when the parents wouldn't believe what was happening to them. Of course, the film would be much more effective if it was commercial free. The ads always are placed at a particularly spooky place in the story -nothing takes you out of a deliciously scary moment like a commercial for Viagra. All in all, however, this is the best recounting of an actual haunting I have seen. This documentary is usually aired with "A Haunting in Georgia", which is also worth viewing.

The story involves a family that is tormented by a demon and spiritual inhabitants that haunt the house.
SONiCSenshi22 February 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this recreation on TLC last night and it was as scary if not scarier than a horror movie. The story involves a family that is tormented by a demon and spiritual inhabitants that haunt the house. In 1986 a family of six with the oldest son suffering from terminal cancer move in to a former funeral home in Connecticut. The children are constantly tormented by ghostly experiences, which the parents do not believe in at first. A voice calls out to the oldest son and eventually he confronts the voice; without knowing turns out to be an extremely powerful demon. It isn't mentioned, but it appears that he makes a deal with this demon and as time goes by his cancer resides into remission and spirits seem to leave the children alone. Over the course of time the oldest son drifts apart from the family and begins growing darker. Later on the family takes in their cousin whose family is getting a divorce. The oldest son and his cousin are good friends and he explains to her that he is visited by a man at night that tells him to do things. He keeps a journal of his some of the events of his visits. As more time goes by crucifixes start disappearing from the house and the son grows darker and violent. One night after attacking his cousin he is sent to a mental hospital. As he is carried away he advises the parents that now that he is out of the house it is going to come after all of you. That early morning the demon attacks the parents and the cousin. Eventually the family contacts a pair of demonologist named Edward and Lorraine Warren. Lorraine finds the demon in the basement and advices them that a church-sanctioned exorcism needs to be performed to rid the house of demon and its inhabitants. Researchers are called in and get the proof needed to perform the exorcism which they get more than they need. Then the Catholic Church is called in and the exorcism is successful. The family decides to move out of the house shortly after and later that spring the oldest son is released from the mental hospital and his cancer never returns.

What a Load
hinesgtrservice27 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I was fairly excited for this even though the other "A Haunting" episodes I've seen have been a laughing stock. I read so many great things, and the high rating here on IMDb led me to believe that this was actually going to be a spooky tale.

I already knew that this story had been debunked, but it didn't much matter to me; I treat all of these as works of fiction.

Well, as it turns out, everyone was wrong. This story is far from creepy. It starts out fairly nice with an eerie setting as the house used to be a Funeral Parlor. Here's where it just gets ridiculous. Are we supposed to believe that expensive, dangerous and morbid equipment used on the deceased was just left behind? No way in hell. Are we supposed to believe that this family actually uses the freezer that held human cadavers for food? Right; though they seem nuts enough.

Then we find out there's a demon in the house and Ed and Lorraine Warren (sigh) claim the portal to hell lies there. Yeah, that's the same thing they said with the other big name haunting-Amityville. (Yet another hoax they were involved in.) This story is just so over-the- top, it's downright silly.

Far from disturbing as so many others claim. I suppose if you really believe in demons, exorcism, and fairy-tale deities, there's a chance you could maybe buy into their story. Otherwise, you'll be laughing the whole way through.

Overall, it isn't even worth the couple of chuckles you get. I suppose it is disturbing in the fact that people believe this junk and that humans actually act this way in real life all for faith.

The best I've seen
SCAlexD12 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Awesome! Scary but I couldn't stop watching! Anyone know who played the ghost lady that the daughter saw while playing with the dolls?

I still can't fathom that after learning what their house was they had their kids stay literally at Ground Zero. I learned that it was a book before it was a Docu-drama: "In a Dark Place". I just received it yesterday from Amazon.com and I can't stop reading it. It's so much more in depth, detailed, longer than the docu-drama and definitely WAY MORE INTENSE. I am a ghost hunter and this even had me trembling. I couldn't sleep. What you saw in the docu-drama was a tea spoon compared to what else had happened.

Interesting, but still quite ordinary.
filipemanuelneto11 August 2019
I think almost everyone likes ghost stories, and particularly if they are real. The universe of the supernatural, despite the fear it causes in many people, remains fascinating. Being a person to whom the supernatural is a relatively close affair, of course I already knew this story when I saw this documentary, which is now a few years old.

The documentary addresses the story as if it were a movie made for TV: loaded with scenes that recreate what happened, give the people what they want, while fulfilling their role as a documentary, being true to the truth. I enjoyed seeing the testimonials of those involved, and the emotional way they reported the facts, even after so many years. For anyone, an experience like theirs is profound and upsetting, and I believe they will not have seen the world around with the same eyes. Touching the "invisible world" means losing the right not to believe in it. I think they did well to hide their faces ... I wouldn't want to show mine if I went to TV to report one of the darkest pages of my life. Nevertheless, I don't know if the documentary did well by hiding the names and nicknames of those involved, as it is easy for anyone to find them on the Internet. If it is publicly known, why omit it?

Too scary, but had to keep watching
m_wijdeven9 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this episode on discovery channel last night. Just before I was going to sleep, a very bad decision. Switching from one channel to another, I was thinking maybe discovery channel will air a supernatural show and voila, there it was. Watching it was absolutely terrifying, I could not change the channel, because I had to see the ending. Actually, from the moment the mother was mopping the floor, I was hooked. But definitely worth the while. Although I did not sleep well, the terror kept haunting me (so to speak).

I think it will stay with me for sometime, and it's good to read the comments of other viewers. Unlike some of you I don't like horror movies or suspension thrillers (it scares me so much, it's not pleasant anymore), unless I know in advance there worth watching, like the 'Sixt Sense' and 'Unbreakable'. Also very impressive, but at least there were based on fiction. 'Unbreakable' also gave a feeling about what true evil looks like. Something I never hope to experience personally!

In short, a very impressive documentary, I reward it with a 9.

Will Scare You Like Nothing Else
mOVIemAN5622 April 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I've caught glimpse's of these (the other being 'A Haunting In Georgia') but was never able to see the whole thing. A few weeks back I was sick and lay on my coach watching TV. Around supper I flipped on the TV to find this just starting.

Having just moved to a new house, the Parker family (Karen, Paul, Bobby and Ed) is running low on luck. Their son Paul is sick with a form of cancer. the two boys explore the house on the first day of moving in. They find the house to be old, spooky, and dark. In the basement they find doctors tools and learn the house once belonged to a doctor.

They decide move into the basement and not think anything of the old tools. That night they 'dream' of seeing people walking around in the other room. They still ignore it but soon it is too much as the figures move into their room and begin to come near them. They run continuously from the room but one night as Booby sleeps upstairs, Paul tries to confront the 'figures'.

He is confronted by a blacked eyed, tuxedoed man and begins to act strange. The next few days Paul changes, he stays in his bedroom, listens to loud music, and ignores the family. The family has their cousin stay with them for the weekend, Therese, and she tries to talk with Paul. Paul begins to become violent, writing violent messages in his diary and attempts to attack Therese as she sleeps.

After they learn that their son is possessed and workers move into the house to monitor them. After this one of the scariest confrontations between good and evil I've ever seen happens and it will seriously keep you up shaking at night.

The film, along with its counterpart, is absolutely terrifying and I recommend you sleep with the light on. It doesn't matter if you believe in God, exorcisms, and demons, you will still find this one of the scariest things you'll ever see. Afterwards I thought that 'could this really happen?' Could it?

A Haunting In Connecticut. Starring: Vanessa Lock, Brett Fleisher, Rob Pearson, and Tyler Reid.

5 out of Stars. Terrifying.

Anything supernatural fascinates me
Unbreakable2718 April 2005
I watched this for the first time around Christmas of last year with my wife.

And we could barely sleep after wards.

We had to watch something funny to make ourselves forget about it.

What makes me so scared of this is that I have experienced things that I to this day cannot explain or even really care to remember.

Please do not think I'm nuts but here are a few of the things I've experienced that made me think a little more seriously about a spirit world.

1. A week or two after my wife's grandfather died a few years ago, my nine year old daughter tells me that she saw her great-grandfather in a navy blue suit and red tie in her bedroom. HE was buried in a navy blue suit and red tie and she did not attend his funeral.

2. My son who's only three recognized my deceased mother's photo (died four years BEFORE he was born)as his grandmother long before I ever told him this. He'd look at the photo and saw 'granma'.

Gave me and my wife the willies.

3. As a kid I remember hearing rumors that the apartment complex I lived in was built on an old graveyard. I used to discard this as my friends trying to scare me, until one night in my bedroom I saw a figure walk into my room, it was totally black so I couldn't make out any features, I was half sleep and simply assumed it to be my mother looking in on me, the figure walked back out into the dark hall and I went back to sleep, thinking nothing of it.

The next morning I asked my mother had she come in and peeked in on my that night ad she told me she never got out of bed.

I don't really think the presence was malevolent, because I didn't feel any fear, in fact I felt protected, which is why I guess I thought it was my mom. It was like whatever it was it was simply checking on me in the middle of the night.

4. As a kid in the same house, me and a pal of mine were playing video games when a tile from the bath tub flew out into the hallway. We were home alone. And I would have thought it the tile had just fallen it would have fallen into the bath tub. It was as if it were thrown.

5. And perhaps the most chilling account, was once when my mother and her boyfriend at the time(who would eventually become my stepfather) had gotten to arguing and when she tried to prevent him from leaving he happened to shove her to the side. Well later that night, after they made up, he told her that at that moment he felt as if someone grabbed him by the neck. I did not witness this, but my mother did say he leave coughing and gagging.

Even remembering these things and writing them runs a chill up my spine.

So I truly believe in the paranormal and spirits.

Watching this documentary only fueled my belief.

The man with the red eyes was the most frightening thing I'd ever seen on television.

If I woke up and saw something like that looking at me, I'd pee all over myself.

My experiences were mild and in most cases seemed benevolent and just playing light hearted jokes (the tile), but I couldn't imagine facing something this evil.

Possibly the most boring and stupid thing i have ever seen.
mattyovashton095 March 2010
I first got this DVD by accident as i was told it was the actual 2009 cinema released a Haunting in Connecticut, but as i had it i thought i would come on here and see the reviews people had written about the film, i saw people saying that it was the scariest thing they had seen and numerous accounts saying that they had witnessed or felt paranormal activity after watching this film, so when i saw this i expected a very scary film and what i got was the complete opposite poorly filmed and the usual bits that make you jump where just missing, i rate this 1 out of 10 only because 0 isn't available to use. If you want to watch it by all means watch it but i highly recommend watching the 2009 version and not watching this excuse of a film.

Extremely Terrifying
vengeance2025 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
First saw this on TV when I was 10 years old & by Christ it scared the living sh*t out of me! So much so, I didn't sleep for an entire night because of it!

I then didn't watch it after a while until it came back on TV again. Though I was older, it still scared me! And even now as I'm currently writing this review I find it to be one of the best A Haunting Documentaries I've seen! Unlike the actual TV Series under the same name (sort of), this one has a good grip on you til the end, & even after the credits roll, it never seems to leave you, it's that sinister & chilling!

The story is about a family who move from New York to up state Connecticut to treat their son who has cancer so he can be closer to the hospital treating him. The find a house thinking it's the perfect home & so much so can't believe how good it is until... they find the basement which holds clues to the homes past as it being a funeral parlour. But the worst is yet to come as the find it's haunted by demonic spirits who once ran the home as a morchery.

The story is based off true events, though names & such were changed. I saw A Haunting in Georgia before this & thought it was pretty creepy, though when this came on straight after, terror hit me! Most notably, the shower scene is one of the most terrifying things I'd ever seen in my life, it still gives me the chills of fear! But the demon & everything else were also pretty scary. The music & narration really added to the film also & gave it a unnerving & spooky undertone!

I overall thought this was a terrifying Documentary/Film. I'd give this a 9/10 as it truly was & still is, one of the most chilling & scariest Documentary's ever made!

Fun, But Silly Fiction
tomjohn3994 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoy a good ghost story, but this just falls into that Amityville Horror silly fiction category. So the house is haunted because it was once a funeral home. -- But wait! There's more! The place is also possessed by the devil! Gee, was it also built on an Indian burial ground? Low budget stuff. Strictly last resort viewing. Not to be confused with the theatrical movie of the same name, although that's undoubtedly what the producers want. Overly long and originally produced for the Discovery Channel, although why Discovery would ever air this is beyond me. There is a twin production on the same DVD I bought called A Haunting in Georgia, which is a similarly cheap, pointless escapade that unexpectedly turns into an ode to the fundamentalist Christian mentality.

Scariest Thing I have Ever Seen
kcg10266 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I made the mistake of seeing this at night, cause after I saw it, I did not sleep at all, I stayed up all night watching t.v.

It took a lot to recover from this scary Documentary.

Anyway, seeing that this is just an ordinary 3 story house with low rent, beautiful furnishings, large kitchen, 2 upstairs bed rooms, 2 upstairs bathrooms, a larger living room, and a 2 room basement. I thought, nothing can be too scary in this house, but boy was I wrong. It scared me to death, I couldn't help but feel sorry for those living in the house. Seeing that ghost calling Paul's name was scary, but the worst parts were seeing him trap Karen in the shower, drive a truck and almost crushing Ed to death, and standing on the stairs giving a camera man a head on attack. At that moment, I just wanted to scream. Seeing that ghost's face just from and then seeing his mouth smirk, and then turn into a fireball, was enough to knock me out of my chair.

After seeing this, I saw The Shining, and The Shining is no where near as scary as this terrifying documentary. I do not recommend watching this, unless you want the living daylights scared out of you. Seeing this haunted me for some time. I am now over it, but I know that I will never see this documentary again. One watch was enough.

Do Not Watch This, Unless You Are Willing To See The Shining, The Haunting, and be willing to get scared to the death, cause this documentary will haunt you for some time.

Warning: Spoilers
I seen this back a few years ago on TV. I got hooked just by the things that were happening, like the blood on the floor as she mopped. That ghost with the black eyes in the girls room was creepy but that didn't compare to that demon with the red eyes standing on the stairs! That freaked me out so bad. I kept seeing that image in my head when I closed my eyes, I had a hard time sleeping that night. I bought the DVD thinking it was the movie, cause I heard they made a movie out of it, and when I put it on I seen it was that same documentary with that demon that scared the crap outta me. when the part came I looked away. I couldn't see that image again!

more than disturbing
dray201924 January 2007
I saw this movie a few years ago while visiting a friend in Arizona. I regret saying that this film has haunted me, literally, since then.

I don't really like to discuss or think about things that have happened to me since seeing this film. Is it possible for this evil to have followed me? Trust me, I'm not crazy. Basically, I've had "night terrors" since seeing this film. My wife is already in the habit of waking me up, with force, when I begin screaming with the feeling of somebody trying to suffocate me.

The most horrifying thing that has happened was when I saw a hooded evil presence standing next to my bed.

Well, I won't say anymore except BE CAREFUL if you choose to watch this!

A Haunting in Connecticut Takes Detour Through Amityville
muvcritic25 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
"Mom, I just heard a voice down in the basement, calling for Paul." -- Bobby Parker (Tyler Reid)

It's questionable when even a historical movie claims to be a "true story," although I'll maintain that a fair recreation of D-Day, for example, does just as much to convey historical context as does reading some historian's second-hand description in a book. The difference is, of course, I'm firmly convinced that D-Day actually happened. I am less convinced of any supernatural nonsense.

You've seen it all before. Just like The Amityville Horror and any of its sequels, remakes or imitators, a nice American family moves into a quaint (aren't they always) old house which, not more than 10 minutes later, somebody must suspect is haunted. Usually, it's built over an ancient Native American burial ground; in this case, the house was once a mortuary. The only major difference, if it is, is that in this picture, the family is already preoccupied with morbidity as the oldest son, Kyle (Matt Campbell), is dying from cancer. Not only is Kyle waiting to check out, but so is the film's token exorcist, Father Popescu (Elias Koteas), probably the meekest, whiniest exorcist in movie history. It's not like Max Von Sydow commanding "The power of Christ compels you!"; it's more like, "Hey, if it wouldn't be too much trouble..."

I won't indict the technical crew's reliable work, especially production designer Alicia Keywan, who performed similar work in 2007's The Messengers, and the obligatory manifestations every five minutes are all staged creepily enough to make at least half the audience jump in their seats. I wasn't jumping as much as I was squirming because it all seemed so...familiar, despite the novelty of having Academy Award-nominated actress Virginia Madsen as the harried mom.

At least director Peter Cornwell does what he can to maintain some plausibility. My objection to these things is not the fact that I just flat-out don't believe in the supernatural. I don't believe in space wizards with laser swords, either, but I can, briefly, if a movie requires me to accept that as its premise. However, my ability willingly to suspend disbelief flags when presented with the scenario of little kids playing hide and seek with their babysitting aunt and hiding in the darkest corner of the house where an animated corpse materializes. The next scene is fairly normal, which it wouldn't be. My kids would be so hysterical that such an event would have to be addressed for some scenes afterwards, although it's just as likely that, if it were my kids, it would be the demons screaming in terror. Later, the teenage aunt, after a similar encounter with demoniac forces, reaches the apparently obligatory cinematic decision, "Well, time to take a shower." Obviously, these people don't watch enough movies.

Or maybe I watch too many. Maybe I shouldn't watch these things because I feel like I've seen it all before. Bet you have, too.

White-knuckle TV!
m24chl7722 September 2007
I saw this episode when it aired back in '02 and was totally sucked into the storyline within minutes. The combination of high production values, movie-quality direction, and terrifying storyline had me hypnotized. I've seen a LOT of horror movies over the years, but only a handful really had me looking under my bed.

This was one of them.

The narrator, Anthony Call, has a perfect campfire-story delivery that genuinely adds to the proceedings. After watching this episode I learned to never buy a house that was once a funeral parlor.

Even if you don't believe in the paranormal, give this fine TV series a chance. You won't regret it. Oh, and I dare you to watch it alone.

On a stormy night.

In the dark. heh heh heh

surprisingly scary
deadpanwalking13 April 2005
I started watching this for no particular reason and couldn't stop. It's basically documentary format telling of a supposedly true story involving a haunted house. It was very well acted, directed, and produced. Although it totally had a made-for-TV vibe, in this case the people involved in the creative process really nailed the genre. My girlfriend was scared to death and begged me to change the channel to "Pet Star" or "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction" or maybe even "Animal Face-Off" (three of our standby favorites) but I refused, wresting the remote from her hand as I threw back my head and cackled maniacally. Anyway, I couldn't stop watching, I had to know what happened next. I think this movie is going to catch on as one that I'll watch every All Hallow's Eve and get my friends (who are legion, I assure you) to watch as well. We started out laughing about the bearded demon guy when he first appeared but by the time it was over and I was in bed I was terribly frightened that he was at any moment going to show up in my room and make with the spooky. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes horror. It may not be a remake or cop any Japanese trends, but it's something special. All who were involved should be very proud.

the documentary that inspired the 2009 movie
disdressed121 January 2010
this 2002feature length documentary is one scary offering.i haven't seen the 2009 film version yet,so i can't compare the two,but this documentary was sure well done,in my opinion.in the chills department,it rates almost off the charts.there were a few scenes where my blood ran cold.the narrator(who also does the narration for the F.B.I. Files)has the perfect voice for this kind of program.a word of warning.if you watch this late at night, you may have trouble sleeping,as it's much more terrifying than most horror movies, due to a much higher degree of realism,in terms how it looks and how it's shot.that's just my opinion,of course.for me,A Haunting in Connecticut is a 9/10

A Haunting in Connecticut
talbertjzx20 September 2007
I think that A Haunting in Connecticut was really spooky and a really great story. I loved it. It's very obvious that this really happened to this family and only continues to prove the existence of life after the physical form dissolves is indeed true. There is no death, people seem to think life and death,...... doesn't exist, birth and death, yes, but life has no opposite. The fact that the family members are narrating through the show, to me, proves the reality of this event. As Human Beings I believe we have the ability to sense honesty in each other. I sense the honesty in this family, you can hear it in their body language and voice. I hope the family doesn't frown on this comment but I think that the whole event was necessary for Paul/Stephen(Steven)? to have had his cancer taken away. That to me is what makes this a great story about a haunting. I think that is why the event happened to them, for Pauls sake. Please try to see the positive in this. I know that not all hauntings look positive, but then again everything happens for a reason, and when the mind looks at an event, it only sees that one event, a small sliver of the big picture/event, and then labels it good or bad, not ever seeing the whole picture and the connectedness of all events,..........one thing happens so that another may happen, etc.. As far as the actors, I think they were excellent! I think that everything came together just as it needed to. Everyone of the actors were a perfect fit for this show, and it really is spooky. It's better than any scary movie I have ever seen, and if a movie is in fact made I can't imagine it being better than this TV show, no way. This is one of my favorite shows I have ever seen. I wish I had a store bought copy of it but have never found it for sale anywhere. My other favorite haunting show is Summerwind, another excellent show that I would rate a 10, but this is my favorite! Thank you for letting me post on your site and have a nice day! :) - Jason(talbertj300zx@yahoo.com)

"A Haunting......" INDEED!
McL-Cassandra23 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is easily one the best supernatural features EVER! I watched years ago and recently saw it again along with "A Haunting in Georgia" to top off the fright night! Both are well done, especially the narration. But what scared me senseless was the sound effects of windy trees, blowing snow and doomed music. The terrifying scene in the boys bedroom when a group of ghostly beings gather to discuss something, ignoring the two boys, was so truly frightening and really leads one to believe this haunting really happened. Quirky is much more believable than cliché. Although it's a made for T.V. production, a sort of moody genius pervades throughout. For maximum effect watch this after dark and ALONE!
