Swamp Boobies...err...i mean Zombies
brooke_gaylene22 June 2013
Awesome movie, exciting fight scenes, professional editing, award winning music, great acting, crystal clear sound, brilliant script...oops sorry i made some spelling mistakes there. Let me correct them.

awesome = awful, exciting = hilarious, professional = dreadful, award winning = random horrid, crystal clear = sound crew were on vacation, brilliant = diabolical.

I think the only reason there were not goofs listed for this movie is that there would be so many it would crash IMDb servers.

I read it was originally 3 hours long and they cut it to just under 2, i think they needed to cut 2 more hours out of it.

Yeah it was low budget but you don't need budget to write a script, it just didn't have one. It seemed to be just an excuse to show some breasts and then kind of throw some Zombies in it too.

All that aside you still have to sit through all 2 hours of it just because it was so funny, it wasn't listed as a comedy but you couldn't help but laugh at it.

It's type of movie guy would watch with a bunch of drunk friends (Please drink responsibly).

I love zombie films and cheesy no budget films, but this did not cut the mustard
CorblimeyGuvnors20 January 2015
Watched this on the Catacomb of Creepshow box set. 10th film I have watched out of 50 and this rates as one of the lower films for entertainment value.

An institute are carrying out experiments to raise the dead. When they have a government inspection, they decide to dump the bodies in the local river/Swamp. It is not long before they are washed ashore and start devouring the living.

The acting is of the amateur dramatics school. Usually I can live with this, but this, with some of the poor sound quality, just made this quite painful at times. The fighting/action was extremely contrived and staged. How odd that all of the characters were trained in martial arts and could fight in a martial arts style. The police officers in the film stood out because they wore plain T- shirts with large print writing on them saying POLICE. Also if they were not wearing their T-shirts they reverted to a white shirt with a badge stating they were police rather like a name tag.

Jasmin St Claire is (or was) an adult entertainer and actually her acting was better than most of the cast on show here.

Some positives. I liked some of the zombie make up and the gore effects were well managed. Some of the gunshot effects were also good, especially those to the head, as is typical in these films. Music was good (but this will depend on your tolerance to thrash/Death metal).

Overall a struggle to maintain my interest. There were some moments, but not enough. This runs for 1 Hr and 53 Minutes and is way too long. I have read that this was edited down from three hours !!!!! If so perhaps there will be a special edition DVD to look out for ...... Not.

I always liked the B-zombieflicks...
maartenvankrimpen12 October 2008
I definitely think this kind of projects are the best ways for an aspiring filmmaker to learn the trick...actually I would like to see this type of films made in my own country. I'm also a fan of B-horror like Braindead or Killer Klowns from Outer Space. I rented Swamp Zombies!!! with the intend to just have a fun time and not expecting a masterpiece.

But even those expectations were too high. I don't say I could do this better, but this was one of the most boring films I've seen in quite a while. I really can appreciate the idea of a zombieflick with lots of gore, kung-fu and nudity in it. But except for the fun the director took on the nudity, 'Swamp Zombies!!!' just didn't work.

Let's be honest: two hours is just too long for a zombiemovie. Kungfu-scenes were overlong, lack of continuity and terrible acting made this film quite a boring ride, instead of the fun roller-coaster-ride I had hoped to see.

There are bad films & then there's Swamp Zombies.
poolandrews23 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Swamp Zombies starts as a FBI inspection of his Hospital forces misguided scientist Dr. Phillips (Shannon Solo) to call in his shady contacts to quickly dispose of his unethical experiments into the re-animation of the dead. Unfortunately they dump the cadavers into the nearest swamp (looks like a lake to me) & think the job is done, however these corpses were injected with Phillips re-animation serum &, surprise surprise, come back to life as rotting flesh eating zombies! A student field expedition will provide plenty of fresh meat, can the local kick boxing Ranger Jack (writer, producer, director & coward Len Kabasinski hiding from embarrassment under the pseudonym of Leon South) save the day & can Dr. Phillips bizarre experiments be stopped?

Starring, written, produced & directed by the aforementioned Len Kabasinski there are films which are so bad it's untrue, then there's the celluloid abomination that is Swamp Zombies. This is quite possibly the worst film I've seen since the last worst film I saw, seriously though Swamp Zombies has made it into my prestigious worst ever films list & boy have I seen some stinkers in my time, to gain a place on this list a film has to have certain qualities, a certain type of badness, it has to be a so mind-numbingly bad film as to make me want to me poke my eyes out & Swamp Zombies has those unique, hard to achieve qualities. For a start the character's are awful, to call them one-dimensional & bland would be too kind, the dialogue is terrible as for some reason these people can't seem to string a proper sentence together, it's an absolute bore to sit through with a predictable & clichéd 'plot' although I use the term plot very loosely, all the zombie attacks are virtually the same & end up with the human character's having a karate fight with them, however on the plus side Swamp Zombies might just be the best horror/zombie/martial arts film ever made, not that I can think of any others mind you. Then there's the fact that Swamp Zombies lasts for more than two hours! Jesus Christ almighty, how the hell did I make it through two hours of this cinematic turd? I could go on all day about how bad this is but that would be silly so I'll just say I hate Swamp Zombies & I hate every single aspect of it, it's as simple & straight forward as that.

This is one of the worst directed films I've ever seen, there's virtually no direction at all. No-one puts any effort into anything & they just sort of either stand there or jog depending on the scene, the scene when the old man is first attacked by the zombies & runs through the wood waving his arms in the air letting out a little wailing noise is hilarious & the bit when a fat redneck guy comes face-to-face with a zombie & he says 'oh my god' like he was asking someone to change the channel on the TV. There's also another fight scene set atop a car park where it starts out during the day & after a few punches have been thrown it's pitch black. There's absolutely no scares, there's no tension or atmosphere & most of it is shot during the day with lame scenes of people practising kick boxing on the zombies. There's no real gore either, there's the usual blood splattering but no proper graphic gore effects & the zombies themselves look awful.

With an ultra low $12,000 budget it shows, I don't wish to be unkind but Swamp Zombies is nothing more than a glorified home film & has the production values to match. This is just terrible in every respect including the acting which is awful.

Swamp Zombies is possibly the worst film I've ever seen, I'm sure no-one sets out to make a bad film but when it's this bad & we have to spend our hard earned money & time watching it it's difficult to cut it any slack or have any sympathy for the filmmakers. I hated it, plain & simple.

Vile, Putrid, Piece of Excrement.
HorrorFanatic10112 August 2007
I watch many independent horror movies. I'm a real Indie Movie Buff. Trust me when I say I've sat through some awful movies. As a self confessed B-Movie fan, It takes a lot for me to write such a bad review. But in all honesty, Swamp Zombies is absolutely pathetic.

The editing was the worst attribute of the whole movie. You can hear the camera's sound cutting out, as the scene changes. They seem to drown this noise by using some Un-Suspenseful, dire Backing tracks.

The acting is Terrible. Without a doubt the worst I have ever seen in a movie. I'm not just saying this for effect either. Genuinely, Where'd they find there actors, off the street? As for the camera-man, I can only assume he was drunk, since he couldn't hold the camera still.

The setting was Grotesque. It was supposed to be a lab. It was a room, with a few curtains and some wood blocks for about six extras to lie upon. Tragic.

There was a sex scene, Involving two Ugly as hell 'Actors'. The girl wearing a dirty old grannies bra. It just looked totally amateur, and was probably the LEAST arousing thing to Disgrace my screen.

There are two FIXED reviews on here Obviously posted by the cast/Crew. About six lines of non-detailed bull about the movie, making it sound like a blockbuster masterpiece. On Killerwolf films other movie Curse of the wolf, There are two more fixed reviews there. As if these losers are writing their own reviews giving there movies 10 out of 10. It's pathetic.

Avoid this trash like an STD. Even if you like B-Movies, And Cheese.

1/10 - Some girl has a shower scene = Nice T*ts.

Catacomb of Creepshows #9 (of 50) or beware of movies with needless exclamation points
movieman_kev25 September 2012
A group of stereotypical school students go on a science class expedition to the local swamp unaware that numerous zombies have popped up around the area after an experimental drug is dumped in the water.

I have no clue with the IMDb page lists this as being 90 minutes, but the version on the Catacomb of Creepshows box-set runs almost 2 hours. Now 2 hours is a mighty long time for a low-budget zombie film. It's unsustainable for even a good one. For a bad one, it's excruciating. This movie is very much the latter in that scenario. It wouldn't be surprised in the least if this film was 'written' on the fly. The acting's no worse than most backyard epics and the fight scenes are somewhat fun, but for gods sake learn to edit.

Eye Candy: Amanda Simmons & Pamela Sutch get topless; Jasmin St. Claire shows T&A in a shower scene; and one unknown gets topless during the end credits

An Ultra Low-Budget Production
Uriah4318 December 2012
This film is bad. No question about it. But rather than just criticize the film for its faults I thought I would also point out some of the good things about it and explain the reasons for some of the flaws as well. For example, most of the actors were amateurs and it showed. However, this was an ultra low-budget production and as a result hiring top-notch professional actors was definitely out of the question. So the director, (Len Kabasinski) had to make do with whatever was available. With that in mind, I actually thought some of the scenes were somewhat adequate, particularly those involving "Dr. Phillips" (Shannon Solo) and to a lesser extent some of the scenes with "Lillian Carter" (Jasmin St. Claire). Unfortunately, these barely average scenes were few and far between. Likewise, the script was actually okay. It was the way the other actors delivered their lines that left me less than impressed. Even so, as bad as the acting may have been, the fight scenes were much worse. Yet instead of minimizing them the director chose to present one after another. Of course, the fact that he was one of the characters in the film ("Jack") who was involved in several of the fight scenes might be a key reason for this. Regardless, they were still pretty awful. Ditto the makeup for the zombies. Anyway, having said all of this, I believe that this movie could have been salvaged if it had focused more on Dr. Phillips and Lillian, put more emphasis on makeup and minimized physical combat. It didn't and the final product suffered accordingly. So, while allowances could be made for the lack of financial resources available, the fact remains that this movie could have been better in spite of it all. That said, while it isn't the worst zombie movie I have ever seen, it was certainly bad enough.

High on my list of worst movies ever...
jan-vonk23 May 2010
From this site I understand the movie cost $12.000 to make, of which most probably was used to hire Jasmin St. Claire for a small supporting role. However unbelievable she is as a hospital manager, her acting was by far best of the movie - and that's saying something. Most of the others looked bored or ashamed to be in it, delivering wooden performances and terrible dialogue.

Not that they were given much to work with, although the basic idea is interesting enough it's full of plot holes, goofs and continuity errors. For instance the storm that makes the thugs not disposing of the corpses correctly and takes out communication doesn't seem to affect the students in the forest one bit. And if you're attacked by zombies you'd forget about your towel and stuff, or probably fight given one turns out to be capable of some quite decent martial arts later!

The camera work isn't very good either, especially the lighting is bad. But it's easily topped by the sound which has a lot of background, poor cutting and a soundtrack that's actually quite good but blares through your speakers at times. Make-up is probably about what to expect in a movie like this, however there are no special effects to speak of and thus gorehounds will be disappointed. Some nudity is included, nevertheless this alone won't save the movie.

Overall one of the worst movies I've ever seen, inept at every department although the premise is good. That together with a few nice rock songs and some good looking ladies (certainly not all of them) save this from the lowest rating possible - albeit only just.

They should have stayed in the swamp...
paul_haakonsen17 April 2012
There are good zombies movies and there are bad zombie movies. "Swamp Zombies" fall into the latter category. The DVD cover actually looks promising enough, but once you start the movie, that illusion vaporises like dew in the morning sun.

The story in "Swamp Zombies" is fairly much average for a zombie movie. Experiments were being done on corpses, and for some reason the corpses come back to life, hungry for human flesh.

But the acting in "Swamp Zombies". Wow, that baffled me. I have rarely seen anything like it. Most of the performances put on here were well below average, with forced, halted dialogue and performances that you never really bought into. Most of the people seemed like they had just memorized their lines and were stumbling through to put them out there. It was painful to watch. I am not sure why, but apparently it was a big deal to Brain Dead Films to have Brian Heffron, Jasmin St. Claire and Dan Severn on the cast list, but those people can't act!

There is a good enough amount of gore in the movie, and that is actually the one thing that the movie have working for it. But it is hardly nowhere enough to make it interesting.

The zombie make-up, well it was almost non-existent, was nothing interesting. Most of them looked just like ordinary people. So nothing to come here for.

Sure "Swamp Zombies" is an ambitious project, and hats off to Brain Dead Films to do this. But the movie never rises beyond an amateur attempt at making a movie. I am sure there are fans out there for these particular types of low-budget movies. I, however, am just not one of them. I don't mind low-budget movies, but this was just too uneventful and too plain.

Worst movie I've ever seen BY FAR
komkommersalade16 November 2022
Somebody gave me this movie on dvd as a joke once and, since I have a soft spot for low budget zombie movies, of course I needed to watch it. In my memory, it was longer than the stated 1,5 hours. It felt like 5 hours at the least. The acting is just horrible. Like watching a kids play on acid. The decors were awful, too. And don't get me started on the camera.

I was celebrating when I thought the movie was finally finished, only to discover that they decided to add what felt like another 6 hours of terror.

This movie isn't fun, it's terrible. Just terrible. 45 hours I'm never getting back. Never again.

Ambitious does not equal good
kbtoys10017 March 2022
The makers of Swamp Zombies clearly had ambitions. Filled with a large cast and a number of locations (yes the low budget favorite woods are used but we also have a lot filmed in a hospital with plenty of extras walking around).

But that doesn't make Swamp Zombies good. I saw the 2 hour cut which is interminably boring. The audio is all in-camera and changes between shots.

The zombies, of which there is way too little are just some people with some blood splattered on them. It would have been awesome to get some mucky-living dead coming out of a swamp, but theres not even a swamp in Swamp Zombies. Its just a forest. Theres also a few scenes at a beach.

Little gore, a surprising amount of nudity, and too much talking. This was director Len Kabasinki's first feature, he has gone on to make 16 more films as of 2022, including a sequel which is mercifully only 75 minutes long.

Enjoyable film
UK_Zombie3 March 2010
I thought that Swamp Zombies was a very enjoyable film, particularly given the reported budget and the mainly first time actors in it. Nice to see a film without CGI for a change. Enjoyed this one as much as 'Flesheater' and 'Dawn of the Dead', the two greatest zombie flicks ever made in my opinion.

Fast moving with good and realistic fight scenes and plenty of tongue in cheek humour. Zombies were of the Romeroesque type which means it will appeal to traditional zombie genre enthusiasts. There were some technical flaws (mainly extraneous background noise), but for me, these minor shortcomings were made up for by a good story and enthusiasm from the cast.

Well done to all on Swamp Zombies for this promising first time effort.

One question for the director: Apparently the initial cut was 3hrs in length. How do we get our hands on the deleted 1hr?

Cheers Dunc

Cheesy but entertaining low-budget zombie effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder2 February 2017
Working in an isolated hospital, a doctor attempting to create a serum for patients to get through surgery better finds that his work has created a race of flesh-eating zombies that are targeting a group of college students on a field trip and tries to stop the creatures.

This wasn't all that bad of a low-budget zombie effort. Among it's better features here is the fun and engaging storyline that works quite nicely for this one, giving it a stronger outing than most ever accomplish. Taking the two different story lines here, from the scientists' race to keep the serum hidden away from the agents to the field trip conveniently nearby gives this one the kind of set-up that is far more involved yet still seemingly logical enough throughout here which is rarely accomplished here for these kinds of efforts. That allows this one to go for two rather intriguing and enjoyable set- ups at the same time, with the hospital antics featuring the staff getting tormented by the reanimated zombies in the wings and corridors as well as letting this one get the students being attacked out in the woods nearby for tons of low-budget fun. While in the hospital, this one features the great double attack in the morgue where the creatures rise up and attack the couple there, the battles with the swarm emerging out of the basement and the later scenes where they all encounter the creatures when they return to the hospital. As well, the swamplands battles are far more fun as the continuously approaching zombies keep going after not only after the students but also the interlopers that appear which leads to the attacks on the fishermen, the coeds by the beach and the rangers out patrolling the area which leads to plenty of highly enjoyable scenes. Utilizing the rugged, unnatural location to great effect, there's plenty to like here with the zombies able to continuously get the surprise on their victims with the ability to swarm and then overpower their target which gives this a nice feeling of continuity with all the attacks coming together in the same manner which gets enhanced with the addition of the police officers who get involved in the second act which puts that into greater use than before. With this all comprising the second half of the film, there's a lot of rather fun and engaging action scenes that show their encounters and escape attempts to get away from the horde of creatures featured, giving this one the necessary gore and fine zombie make-up to really be worthwhile. There's still a few problems with this one that holds it back, which mainly comes from the film's overlong length that really had no reason to be as long as it is. Pushing two hours on a set-up like this isn't required since utilizing all these different story lines throughout here as it's way too busy and convoluted to tell this kind of simplistic story, requiring it to be far longer than necessary. The other big part of this one that really holds it back is the cheesy low-budget nature of this one, which is quite obvious and really leaves this feeling cheaper than it really should be with the gore effects and technical issues on display which really screams low-budget, one- take filmmaking. It's not enough to hold this back completely, but there's a lot taken away with these flaws.

Rated R: Graphic Language, Graphic Violence, Nudity, a sex scene and some drug use.

Just terrible
hollowayelizabeth30 March 2011
I have a hard time believing that this movie was made. That means that the crew/cast actually read the script and decided, "sure, let's produce this!" The writing is terrible, the acting is worse, the special effects are a joke, the cinematography was most likely preformed by a child, and the editing is so bad that I can't believe even Brain Damage would accept such trash. This isn't fun bad, this is not worth your time to even make fun of bad. I love zombie movies and this is a disgrace to the entire genre. If the filmmakers know what is good for them, they would stop making the world suffer through their terrible monstrosities and go to work in another field.

One of the drawbacks to being a zomgeek is it turns you into a celluloid male-whore i.e. you'll have a do at just about anything 'morte vivente'. 2 hours long? Did I fall asleep watching this & wake up only for the last half-hour or something as I can't recall anything prior to that being of interest (heterosexual male, I'd like to point out). I viewed in stunned disbelief (which eventually turned into mild amusement) at the poor sound, camera-work & acting - this film succeeds in making The Wickeds & even The Stink Of Flesh seem better upon reflection (although not Nazi Zombies/Maplewoods & Platoon Of The Dead:nothing beats those two when it comes to being REAL turkeys). If you're looking for a "few beers & a laugh"-type of bad film, then this might just do, but if I were totally honest I'd advise you to watch Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things instead for awesomely bad 'car-crash' zombie viewing.

More fun than some of the reviews led me to believe
hocfocprod27 February 2016
I'll admit, this movie was on "Prime", which I have mainly for shipping gifts, so it was essentially "free" for me. Or at least a bonus, so maybe I'm being easier on it than someone who paid for a DVD.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a masterpiece of high production values, but if you've ever wanted to see a Zombie Kung Fu movie, this is it. Some of the fight scenes fall a bit flat, but the ones that stand out are when the character doing the fighting doesn't look like an action hero, but still manages to know some out of the ordinary moves. It's unexpected and fun to see someone you're sure will be a one bite and they're done victim throwing kicks and punches like a pro.

I've noticed some other reviewers comment that black belts should be able to fight more convincingly. I'm sure that in real life they can, but on camera stunt fighting is actually very different from real fighting and much of how well it sells depends on the camera angle and rehearsals to build speed while keeping things safe. Overall, I thought most of the fight sequences were entertaining, if not entirely convincing.

The zombies were plentiful, the plot pretty straight forward, and the pace wasn't bad for a near two hour flick. I'll admit, however, that it did take me three sittings to finish this one. Mostly it was something I switched to when there was nothing else to do or watch.

Many people are correct that Jasmine St. Claire turned in one of the better performances of the movie and many of the cast members had moments when they seemed a bit lost in the dialogue, but that's to be expected of these micro budgeted features. Films like this are like community theatre. They're where aspiring pros cut their teeth and hobbyists play.

There are quite a few scenes when background noise is a distraction between cuts, but one of the big obstacles of no budget is not being able to control your surroundings. When you're shooting on a beach you couldn't afford to rent from the county for the day, if some guy wants to run a weed eater, you can't really stop him.

Like a few others who have commented here in the past, I'd love to see that missing hour of footage.

awful offal
continuumx25 January 2023
This is Len Kabasinski's first movie and easily his worst. Everything about this movie is terrible. The story is nonsense. The acting is godawful. The sound quality is rock bottom. The editing is comically bad. The "effects" are ridiculous. It's all bad.

Evil scientist guy is doing evil science experiments trying to bring the dead back to life for some reason. The FBI is going to come and inspect the hospital because inspecting hospitals is totally what the FBI does. Evil scientist guy needs to get rid of them so he has them dumped in the swamp because this is the only hospital in the world that doesn't have an incinerator. The serum works and the dead bodies become zombies. They then start eating the group of students that are there in the swamp for reason doing some science thing or something. Len Kabasinski is a kung fu park ranger who is also there. Then some stuff happens. I don't even remember what exactly and I don't care. It goes on way too long.

This movie is so bad that writer/director Len Kabasinski himself said not to waste your time watching it. Skip this turd and watch Swamp Zombies 2. You don't need to have watched the first one at all to follow it and it's a far better and more entertaining movie.

Excellent
tcoll3230 May 2007
Swamp Zombies is the first production of Killer Wolf Films and it showcases the many talents of the director and crew. I loved the story and acting in this. The story is first rate all of the way. The story follows a group of people trying to survive an all out attack of zombies in the swamps of PA. What helps set it aside from the all of the other zombie films is the director's love of action and that he is not shy in show casing the many martial artists that are in the film. A personal favorite scene of mine is when the character Jack fights one of the zombies and the zombie fights back with near equal skill. If you are a fan of Killer Wolf's Curse of the Wolf then you will love this. It was great to see Dan Severin along with Brian "Blue Meanie" Heffron (with out blue hair no less)and Pamela Sutch. The blooper and outtake reel is also a lot of fun to watch as is the behind the scenes extra.

I always hated science class
nogodnomasters3 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The film opens with a plot and subplot. Steven Stevenson (Logan Clark) dies in a vehicle accident while in a hospital. His mother wails. However this is a hospital that experiments on reviving the recently dead. The subplot (less complex) involves students going to the swamp on a field trip to collect samples to bring back and study. The plots collide when bodies from the hospital are dumped into the lake and reanimated.

The film was too long at 2 hours and they could cut a random 30 minutes out (Not Jasmin St. Claire shower scene) and I don't think anyone would notice. It included some original "coffee house" style zombie songs. The main actors were fine, about college drama good, while the supporting actors were most likely walk-ons. Just because you are an EMT doesn't mean you can play one. The sound quality was uneven, having to choose between decent sound equipment and Jasmin's shower scene. I think they made the right choice, but in an alternate universe, they are getting both. Zombies were subject to pain when they are karate kicked and hit in the soft parts, yet feel nothing when a knife goes through their hand. Consistency would be nice.

Guide: F-word, sex, nudity (porn star Jasmin St. Claire, Pamela Sutch, Amanda Simmons, Christina Linton-during end credits)

Man-eating zombies
Kristen99088 January 2007
I love this movie. It was funny and had great action scenes. Len kicked zombie butt!!! It kept my interest and I didn't become bored at anytime during the movie. I thought the make-up was awesome, and certain characters played great roles. It shows he put time and dedication into his movie. I also liked all the extras that came with the movie. I enjoyed watching them and I learned a lot more about the movie. All of my friends and I agreed it was a great movie, and have watched it more than once. I (and my friends) can't wait to see what is next. Len your frickin' awesome and the best ever.

Make sure you see the director's cut!
gojiseb5 March 2018
Len Kabasinski should really be applauded for going back and re-editing his older films. Swamp Zombies had always been a fun movie marred by an overly long runtime. This new release trims it down from being over two hours long to being a solid 86 minutes. It flows better and is just a generally more satisfying watch. It's tons of fun and more or less delivers on what you'd want from a micro-budget zombie flick. It's not high art but it is exactly what the cover says.

Make sure you pick up the director's cut and set your mind to its more relaxed level before watching and you're bound to have a good time.
