I found valuable to watch this movie about the topic that was chosen. I
especially appreciated to see a movie that lauded intellectual pursuit
and that translated how that pursuit unwittingly affected the lives of
others. How encouraging and worth spending 112 minutes watching and
thinking about it afterwards. What Akeelah chose to do to make up for
her loss, was creative and positive. It hurt no one. She didn't know
all the good that derived from her choices, which is often the way life
is. Yet, it brought other individuals also to recover from their losses
and be healed in the process. Every effort to overcome obstacles acted
as the rung of a metaphorical ladder, becoming the stepping-stone for
the next effort. I saw this movie as a motivator, each character giving
wind to the other. The trying carries within it seeds, there is no
telling what the ripple effects arenot might be. Everyone could be the
main character of a movie showing the ripple effects they each have on
others. By D. Goullard Parlante
