A young and wild independent film from the Netherlands.
frits826 January 2006
A young and wild independent film from the Netherlands. It's been a long time but here's one ready to roll! Joyride has everything an audience demands: love, sex, violence, humor, suspense, a rock 'n' roll soundtrack and that's not all. It's a film made by young filmmakers with a young cast, intended for a young audience (or, at least, for anyone who's young at heart).

When her friends (Chantal and Rose) boycott her party, eccentric goth-girl Joy vows revenge. Familiar with the legend of Troisvierges - a village in Provence where, in the middle ages, three maids ritualistically murdered their helpless male captive - Joy sets out to recreate the legend using Chantal and Rose as unwitting participants.

To this end, she proposes a joyride. Promising to arrange a car, she turns up in a cherry red convertible and the girls hit the road. As the plot thickens, it turns out that not only is the car stolen but its owner, Tim, is locked in the trunk.

Their joyride to the south of France - wherein the three gorgeous girls torment their toy-boy hostage - begins as a game and turns into a reckless adventure with sex and violence to spare.

Three girls and their hostage travel to the south of France
info-47775 September 2005
Three 'wild' girls and their hostage travel to the south of France in his stolen car. This is a typical example of an uninspired story, about characters that are surface only. There is no real plot development and the whole movie is ridden with road movie cliché's. The story lines is full of gaps, dialogs are hilariously bad acted and the ending is totally unconvincing.

If you liked Costa, you might enjoy this for the actors (and special guests Georgina's "Harry's"), but not even the supposedly great surroundings will satisfy the viewer enough to take this one even a bit seriously.

Stranger than fiction
aron-gl14 September 2005
The story of Joyride is supposed to be loosely based on a series of murders in Spain and Italy by young girls. The film exposes a distant look at three girlfriends that travel into a weird trip of murder.

The plot twists and turns around the alliances within the triangle of the three girls, until one of the three wants to go home and free the boy that they have kidnapped. A weird story of weird girls in a weird world.

Impressive photography that alternates its focus from great panoramic views to extreme close ups of the actors. Intense and very good acting of former soap star Verbaan and Gernandt.
