Well it looks like Mexico
reneverduzco20 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Asi del precipicio is the first film of Teresa Suarez. So many people didn't like it for different point of views, some of the viewers were angry, some of them are happy. The film is about 3 women in Mexico city, one of them with a gun, another one is a pseudo artist and drug consumer and the last one do not has drug addictions but she discovered she has an attraction to women. I was so entertained since the beginning to the end, sometimes the film is bizarre, funny and cheesy but at the same time, it reminds me a country i know more than BATALLA EN EL CIELO and Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN, this movie has a real quality, it really depicts Mexico, Even when De la Reguera has a gun in a wedding, her character really exists in Mexico, There are plenty of Gabriela Platas'Character in Mexico and her dream is really funny and finally the Ingrid martz character is real. The gay characters are no so real, the male one is OK written but the chosen actor was not the right one. A lot of things happened in asi del precipicio, I will remember 2006 for the successful and interesting Babel and the not so great but real (because Mexico is surreal and intense like The Mexico of Asi del precipicio)Asi del precipicio.

Don't waste your time and your money

Well... this is by far one of the worse movies I have seen in all my live The story is bad by itself, but the way it develops it's really really awful You can see that the people involved in the movie is trying very hard to shocks us... but please! this is pure garbage, all the characters are really stupid and predictable and they are scenes that they copy, but really copy from Requiem for a Dream... What? Do you think we don't go to the movies or what? I read that Ana De la Reguera regrets being in this movie and that she did not attend the premiere as well as the interviews... Well Good for her!!! The thing that bothers me the most is that people got money to get this film done... I think that it's better to give all this money to the poor than to throw it to the garbage sorry but it's true

Maybe a rate of 3 is too much...
TonyAguilar13 May 2007
Super sexy Ana de la Reguera can't save this movie from sinking. The story is too lame and personal that maybe the director/writer wrote it when she was 14. Te first 5 mins of the movie are the best example of what is coming next: sex, drugs, bad acting, terrible dialog and lots of plot holes and contradictions.

There was strong publicity on this movie that was sure to pull a lot of people into theaters, most of them guys looking to get a peek of Ana's nude scene.

Unfortunately Mexico creates 20 bad filmmakers for every good one. Not too mention the hundreds who don't have the connections, friends or relatives to get the money for they movie, or a family fortune...

I can't believe how Mexican studios still throw away money like that.

This movie is terrible!
maurris6 December 2006
This movie is one of the worst movies i've ever seen. The script is really bad, from the plot developing to the dialoges. The so called shocking situations (The sex scenes and gay situations) don't serve to the story at all, it's obvious that the reason of that scenes is to cause controversy to fill the movie theaters, which is a shame, cause in Mexico is a lot of talent (i can't believe this piece of crap is financed by the government). Anyway, the actors don't help too much, they act like a soap opera, you simply can't believe a thing to any of them, they are fake, unidimensional, and predictable... The director of this film really have a copy of requiem on the set (just listen the music score), brokeback mountain and ameliè (for the initial scene), sadly she is far away to be Darren Aron's. I really waste my time and my money. DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE PLEASE... IS Really BAD..

Stab me with your sword!
lastliberal10 August 2010
Sex, drugs, and rock and roll have all been easy draws to a film. This one opens with some hot steamy sex (and drugs) between Lucia (Ana de la Reguera - Cop Out) and a bullfighter (Alejandro Nones). The next minute she is rushing to work and shooting the squeegee guys through her windshield. She did tell them not to do it! Hanna (Ingrid Martz) is having problems with her very rich husband (Ricardo Kleinbaum), a real mamma's boy. She spends a lot of time in therapy. She also likes to check out breasts more than I do, if that is possible, especially Sandra's (Anna Ciocchetti).

Carmen (Gabriela Platas), Unemployed likes to hang with a gay and a transvestite, and snort cocaine. In fact, I don't think five minutes goes by with her snorting more.

Put these three in one apartment, and you are certain to have some steamy and exciting action. Unfortunately, only one seems to end up finding happiness.

I thought the acting was great, and the story certainly kept your interest.

Pure rubbish
jcgnu25 July 2007
It is by far the worst movie I've ever seen. The acting is terrible, the story is grotesque and pretty unreal and they try to get our attention by displaying pornographic images all the time.

There is one user who assured that it is pretty much the way it happens in Mexico. I gotta say that it certainly isn't. I've lived most of my life in Mexico City and although we have a lot of problems, it is not like we live our lives surrounded by alcohol, drugs, etc. It is a shame that this user believes that the movie shows a true side of this place.

I would never suggest anyone to watch this movie as it is pure rubbish. If you plan to see a good Mexican movie try "Innocent Voices" instead. It may not be the greatest movie ever, but at least that's truly shocking, and a piece of art, I might say.

Anyway, don't waste your time or money... "Asi del precipicio" completely sucks...

clever and entertaining
calimaree25 February 2009
Regarding the comment below mine-- just because Mexico is an underdeveloped country, does that mean all movies must be about poverty? There is, obviously, a Mexican upper-class. As a student I lived with many Mexicans (who were from wealthy families) and they reminded me of some of the characters in the movie, especially with their careless use of cocaine. Regardless of how "realistic" this movie is-- I have no idea-- it is a bit funny, and satirical view of a few friends "on the edge." So I don't think this director should be criticized, at all, for making a movie involving the upper-class and cocaine. As for the movie- I found it to be entertaining, I had no idea what would happen next. At times I wondered, where is this all going? It didn't seem to have a very clear theme, but I recommend it to anyone who can stand a few very graphic sex scenes.

Don't waste your time neither your money
alcibar16 January 2007
Crap, crap, crap... I saw this movie because it promised a good work, (or so was the campaign).

But what i found was a fistful of clichés, bad acting, bad timing, bad direction, bad use of a could be good plot, bad edition, etc.

The vision of the excess is very simplistic.

It pretends to be controversial putting some nudes around here, some drug abusing there, some violence there, but all that is gratuitous.

But the worse of all is its pretentiousness, it pretends to be a "not for the weak of hearth" movie, it pretends to give us a moral, but worse of all, it pretends to be a movie.

It is so bad that even the involuntary humor is bad.

It's a shame that Mexican cinema nowadays is very poor, both in quantity and quality.

I thought i wouldn't... but i liked it
Elmikee258 January 2007
Yes, it has cheesy acting, most of the actors came from TV. Yes, it has a lot of cursing, drugs and sex scenes, Nobody said it was a fairy tail. Yes, the dialog is not that good, but not everybody in Mexico talks the same way. Yes, they used controversy to promote it, What about "y tu mama tambien"...? Which personally, i thought really stinks! Yes, it's the director's first film, everybody deserves a break. Yes, it's financed by the government, i'd rather see an entertaining movie, than to see a politician on TV getting drunk on my money and making a fool out of him(or her)self.

I'm not saying it's the greatest movie ever made, but i enjoyed it; flaws and all... I didn't leave the theater feeling like i've been cheated. And i know who to recommend it to...

And that's my two cents.

It's a shame that this is the face Mexico has to show
dtrava8 March 2007
I just saw the movie and I have to say that it is the most grotesque, bad and raunchy movie I've ever seen. They try to shock the audience with their sex scenes, the drug abuse and violence. It is just so cliché. The acting is horrible, the theme is absurd, they drive it to the extreme and cannot get their point through, just to say that there was a point because I did not see one. They try to show the life of three "upper class" Mexican women, that have this life that has no line... It is just sad to see that this is the only thing that Mexican films have to offer, use of bad words, 'controversial' themes, and nudity. I just have to say that I lost 2 hours of my Thursday. Hated it!!!

Very Poorly Done
jenniferjohnson20085 April 2007
To the reviewer who said this was an accurate depiction of drug and alcohol addiction - WRONG! First of all, one character quits cocaine and alcohol cold turkey and has NO withdrawal symptoms. In real life, she'd have severe diarrhea, sweats, shaking, migraines, weight gain, etc. Instead, she just goes on her merry way and everyone tells her how great she looks "Have you lost weight?" they ask. When she shoots a man, her father "arranges" everything and she does not get in trouble for it. This is so far from reality it's absurd! Furthermore, the acting is terrible, the writing awful, the timing bad, the character development shallow . . .even the green screen effects were poorly done. I'd say Teresa has a long way to go, if she can even get funding for another film!

It is a shame!!
rafamg67-126 January 2008
I thought twice about to write this comment, but since I have wasted my time watching that rubbish I decided to get something worth from it. Well lets take it straight ahead, would you like to see some sex scenes?, there are a few and in that case I would recommend to watch any another movie, or if for any reason you got the DVD just watch the beginning and speed it up till almost the end. Would you like to know how is the life in Mexico?, I mean the real life, the one of most of the Mexicans live day after day?, I recommend strongly "La Ley de Herodes" (that's a real master piece). In another hand I really do not know what Teresa Suarez tried to show. If there is an aim or a message I really missed it. It is so funny that in this movie she shows a "nice" and "cool" Mexican people, having a wonderful life, while the reality is that 40% of the people (40 millions) in that country are living under the poverty line. I really wonder if she has actually any kind of knowledge about writing or directing or if she has ever walked through out the streets of Mexico. Moreover, it could be interesting to know how Teresa got the funding for such a movie.

Like this... from falling into a soap opera
gonzo93118 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Even though, after watching its trailer, I thought this movie would be a strong portrait of self-destruction motivated by the consumerist world we live in, I ended up being rather disappointed, for the only thing I found, was either an erotic film, or a one-episode soap opera with lots of explicit but pleasurable sex scenes, which does not help at all to reflect the pain and the anguish the terribly built characters were going through.

After having watched Salò, I understood the absolute need to show hard to watch scenes in order to make the audience understand the situations a character is going through, but in this film, I found Emmanuelle-like sex that didn't contribute to create an atmosphere of decay, but actually made me think some viewers might get aroused when watching it.

For example, there's a scene in which Lucía -Ana de la Reguera's character- ends up with a group of lowlifes because she needs some cocaine, and after wards we see her lying in bed next to one of them, but we didn't get to see what happened before -which would have been more humiliating and meaningful for the character's sake and would have made the audience feel more concerned about her state- and the director ends up redeeming the character for its faults, especially after showing more comfortable to watch sex scenes with Lucía's boyfriend -which I found quite pointless- a while before.

The subplots that accompany Lucía's story, are the ones that follow the doom of her girlfriends, who are played horribly by Gabriela Platas and a bit better than OK by Ingrid Martz. These stories seem out of place, since they don't get the same focus as Lucía's, and the worst part is that one of them -Martz's- is about a Jewish lesbian girl who's beginning to find her sexual identity, which is not precisely the story of a fall, but rather the finding of one's true self.

The photography in the film isn't there to express anything, and the dialog sounds so fake that after watching the film you really need to listen to some of Scorsese's street talk. Also, the editing is ridiculously inexistent, so there's truly no artistic merit in the film.

The script doesn't manage to give us a message about a decaying society, but it actually makes us think "Hey, it's just a movie" due to the huge exaggerations and some dream sequences that make it look like a comedy.

With an OK script, a lousy directing, terrible acting -except for De la Reguera and maybe Martz- and no technical value, I highly recommend to avoid Así del precipicio and better try watching Trainspotting, Sid and Nancy, or Requiem for a Dream.

BEST DRAMA MOVIE EVER
ytzcsnc7 February 2024
This is one of my favorite movies of all time, it starts strong and ends strong. Watched it in like 2011 and am watching it again in 2022,2023,2024. Back in the day a lot of the topics in this movie were very controversial (transvestites, now trans people, homosexuality, drugs, rich people behavior, city life, infidelity, friend drama, adult life, living with roommates.) and hard to find in movies in that period of time, today not so much but the good thing about it is it portrays real life experiences, things we live today, more openly but very current in our society. It's a very realistic movie, I am fascinated by it, all the actors did great. Best Mexican movie, best drama movie!

Better than I thought
davgom00112 December 2006
The movie is about three young adult women and how their lives are developing through some problems with drugs and bad marriages and relationships. The movie was better than I thought (I have heard it was good though). Ana De la Reguera's performance is very good and the movie in general is very believable. It doesn't have an unbelievable script like Hollywood's movies where sometimes you don't believe anything of what you see and they try to do business with any imaginable subject, and it seems that they don't know what to come up with, instead of doing good histories (good movies). This is a movie that from my point of view tries to show the reality about responsibilities and how can drugs affect your life, the movie also contains two histories about gay people, one of them who just discovers she's gay.

Truly original and worth seeing
montemayor2k25 December 2006
In order to appreciate this fill you have to be in touch a bit with the history behind the actors, this movie brings out the best of all of them. Mexico has made some extraordinary films in the past this being in my list on of the top ones, also one of my personal best is "La Mujer De Mi Hermano" which I also recommend. The story is a bit slow to begin with and picks up fast, Ana De la reguera did like the film, of course there are some things she did not approve of, but still she is happy with her roll and is looking already foreword for another Hollywood big title, so expect her soon in the us.

Take the time to see this film and discard all the negative comments, movies are about that and need an individual point of view, so be your own judge. Till next time see ya there..

Best Movie of the year
benjamin-1677 March 2007
This was by far the best film that I have seen in 2007 and 2006. The stroyline is incredible, and does an amazing job on bringing up issues that are simply a all encompassing part of our lives. The film is a true success at capturing the denial, realization and depth of alcohol and drug use in ones life. The cast is incredible, beyond the casts beauty there is a depth that reaches beyond super hot, which is an exceptional ability to engage your audience. I was so taken back by the performances of all characters. The film included, sexual scenes, which were very engaging and I found to leave me yearning for more exposure to the beautiful bodies. It was incredible to see the death, acting out, divorce, unfaithful, bisexuality, homosexuality, art, prison, friendships, arrest, sex, addiction, parental support in every way that it was displayed. I would highly recommend this film to everyone. It is a film that will forever leave an impression within me, I am amazed. Absolutely amazing.......
