That's why they call it "Reality TV!"
mooie726 July 2006
While the show itself is void of any substance, just like "Newlyweds" you have to wonder how much of it is blown out of proportion for ratings. If they were boring, no one would continue to watch.

And as ignorant as Bobby Brown may be, I actually felt sorta bad for him. Watching Whitney's behavior made me feel embarrassed for THEM. When she wasn't whining and complaining like a little diva, she was drunk/high and acting like an idiot! Whitney may have been beautiful and may have been talented (back in the day), but at the end of the day, she is just as "Ghetto" as Bobby. No one forced her to marry him and stay with him all these years - this is who she was all along and her publicists and handlers and managers did an excellent job keeping her image under control for a long time.

She's just like Mariah - you can take the girl out of the hood, but you can't take the hood out of the girl!

Awful. Simply awful.
Helen_Kay27 August 2005
This series is just.... awful.

Really awful.

It's strangely disturbing to see a couple hopeless has-beens who have destroyed themselves through their own bad choices. Even more disturbing is how Whitney has allowed Bobby Brown to drag her down into the mud with him. She gives a bad name to all her fellow women for doing this in the name of "standing by her man". "Standing by her criminal idiot" is more like it.

There isn't even the interesting drama one would hope from a TV series. Drama needs a protagonist. Someone you can root for. Someone struggling to make their world better. Whitney and Bobby are just circling the toilet bowl whining about how their past success isn't allowing them to have careers anymore.

How this train wreck of human life can become a TV show is beyond me.

Whitney Houston lost her dignity
Artemur20 April 2023
After watching this reality series about Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown's daily lives, you can see those people are ghetto to the core, and that's their biggest problem. The public blamed Bobby for Whitney's drug use, downward spiral, and untimely death, but Whitney also lacked upper class qualities and manners, maturity, some common sense, and this TV show only showed this. She was talented and beautiful, but at heart, she is just a ghetto-born black American woman like her husband. During all 9 episodes, Whitney and Bobby behave like spoiled 10-year-old brats. They are so noisy and rude in public places like restaurants, shops, etc. Sometimes other people around them in these public places just look shocked at their weird behaviors. Their home lives are even worse and more chaotic than their public social lives. There is even a scatalogical moment in which Bobby explains how he removed the big turd from Whitney. There are also some farting and defecating moments; it's just beyond disgusting. All series are especially disaster for Whitney's public image, and it is obvious she just agreed to show up in this TV series for Bobby. Despite it's train wreck nature, if you're still intrigued to watch this TV series, you can find it on Youtube.

Scuzzy criminals get TV show...
Asteri-Atypical3 August 2005
How better to describe it than scuzzy criminals on TV? And I don't mean in the show COPS; here, they're actually being presented as protagonists.

I don't see any remedial value in this show unless you have a perverse penchant for human tragedies. Whitney Houston is a tragic example of the fallen star; a star which Bobby Brown helped pull from the sky. Bobby Brown is nothing but a low-life criminal. Why watch him? Why does Whitney stand by him no matter how despicable he is? This couple should be locked up and it's a loathsome shame they are making money and achieving a modicum of fame from watching the septic tank which is their lives and the human waste which is their character.

Strange show
dakjets11 April 2023
This is and was a strange reality series when it came out. First of all, it is strange that the superstar Whitney Houston would participate in something as private and revealing as this series. Rather, the truth is that it foreshadowed a coming tragedy that deprived us of Whitney. It also shows how painful and difficult it is for celebrity children to live up to expectations and to never have their famous parents all to themselves.

For me, the series is primarily a unique and unusual insight into an unusual family life. How does a superstar live in an ordinary Atlanta neighborhood? Can she even be private? The answer is to a very small extent.

Because as Whitney herself cries out in frustration in one episode: can I just be allowed to be a normal person? The series shows that it was no longer possible for either her, Bobby or her daughter Bobbi Christina. The series provides an insight into what it's like to be pursued and sought out regardless of whether it's Atlanta or London. But it also gives an image that superstars and celebrities are just people too, made of flesh and blood. With a need to just be allowed to live their lives exactly as they want. But I fully understand that she allegedly declined to participate in season 2, and with that the series was history. Because nobody was interested in seeing anything more of Bobby, right?

Being Mr. Whitney Houston
ldavis-231 July 2005
Mr. and Mrs. Houston manage to do the impossible: they make Mr. and Mrs. Spears look positively deep! Instead of doing something productive - like, say, mow the lawn or help someone less fortunate - they sludge from one hotel to another, blow her fortune, and diss the guy who won't let them borrow his skeedoo (smart man).

While Bobby tries in his own fumbling way (his culinary experiments are a hoot), Whitney is a train-wreck who doesn't pretend to be a civil or gracious human being. She is filmed chowing down, yet goes nuts when a fan wants to take her picture: "Ma'am, can't you see I'm eating?!" Well, at least she said "Ma'am." When she reads about a celebrity in a magazine and "asks" her "Invite me to your wedding" like some Z-list nobody, I had to cringe!

These are two dysfunctional and miserable people trapped in a bad marriage, too stupid to do the humane thing and get a divorce. Giving us a tour of their house, Bobby mentions the awards are "mostly my wife's" then, in a classic Freudian slip says: "I have 5 Grammys..." No, Bobby, you have 1 Grammy, which is 1 more than you deserve!

I felt sorry for their daughter and that poor pooch who looks like two different pieces of rugs sewn together. The one time Whitney pays attention to Bobbi is when they're shopping and she repeatedly asks for a kiss. Bobbi keeps pushing her away as if to say "Mom, you're embarrassing me." Too bad her parents weren't embarrassed to put her through this.

The Rise And Fall Of A Once Great Star...Completely uttering to watch
raysond9 October 2005
I saw an episode of this show as of this afternoon on the cable channel BRAVO. How better describe this series is just the following comment...

1. How in the hell did a scuzzy criminal like Bobby Brown get his own reality TV show?

2. After all these years, why is Whitney Houston still hanging around him regardless of his criminal and violent past?

Lets face it,like the following previous statement regarding this show is describing how in the hell scuzzy criminals(like Bobby Brown)that can get there own show and for the first twenty minutes or so,they make fools of themselves on camera. In other words, complete imbeciles of themselves on national television and the world to look at.

The scuzzy criminals that are on COPS,are actually being presented as protagonists-which they know when there doing wrong, and are actually caught on tape doing the crime and from there the police make the arrest and the suspect is persecuted to the fullest extent of the law for the crimes they committed. That is on the show COPS. But as far as Being Bobby Brown is concerned that is no remedial value what so ever unless you may see a perverse penchant for a human tragedy--in other words a train wreck that is waiting to happen and on this show, the train wreck is between two individuals whose lives and careers are headed for a crash toward the path of the brick wall. In other words, these are two people whose careers had spun out of control and are headed into a skiddish direction from which there is no turning back. This is a human tragedy gone completely berserk in its finest hour.

And Being Bobby Brown is a prime example of this stupidity that is one of the WORST reality shows out there, second to some I can think of that could possibly fit into this category...."The Anna Nicole Smith Show", "Jackass","Viva La-Bam","Temptation Island","Growing Up Gotti","The Britney Spears Show",and so much more. And to put it bluntly,it is awful....really awful....watch some of the episodes and you see what I mean. It is to some and even strangely disturbing to see a couple like this self destruct themselves through some of the bad choices they make and some of the worst parenting ever seen is one part of it,especially the way they treat their own daughter like she's nobody and just humilate her within the public eye is very disturbing.

Its even sad that Whitney Houston has allowed herself to be drag through the dirt with the likes of Bobby Brown. This is sad to see. Whitney Houston was on top of the world and her rise to fame was a part of it during her successes. This was a singer that was at the peak of her fame with the smash hit records,Grammy,Oscar, and AMA,not to mention Soul Train Music Awards wins(and movie roles in motion pictures) that she had it all in the palm of her hand and from there when downhill quickly when she got with Bobby Brown, who in my opinion hasn't done one thing since he was kicked to the curb from New Edition(he was replaced by Johnny Gill). And by the way, what has Bobby Brown done lately? Nothing. He has got One Grammy to boot(for his debut album, which was a major hit)and that's about it. But to face facts,Whitney Houston is a tragic example of the rise and fall of her own Roman Empire and a utter tragedy of a fallen star from which Bobby helped pull from the sky. And to make it even worst,Bobby Brown is a scum--a low-life criminal(the David Ruffin of the gangsta generation),and to see these people got through the motions is not only sickening, but utterly disturbing to watch. However, seeing these two go at it like dysfunctional adults acting like children when they fuss and fight throughout the rest of the program is enough to turn to something else on a lazy afternoon with nothing to do.

"Being Bobby Brown" way more than I expected
koupie13 August 2005
When the show first aired I was not interested at all. I thought the show would be cheesy and stupid. But, after talking with my mother, who is sooooo square, she told me that she had been watching the show and what she thought I had to tune in. I LOVE the SHOW!!!!! It's sooooo REAL and FUNNY!!!!!! Being a Black Woman in America I identify so well with Whitney & Bobby's relationship. Yes they are RICH, I am not, but I am still able to identify with the reality in which they live. I have watched all the episodes so far, and I continue to watch the reruns. This is the BEST Reality Show I have ever seen. If you are a closed minded person and can not identify with how others live, their ethnicity and their culture, then the show isn't for you. If not meeting Mrs. Houston-Brown at a production company where I worked and seeing the show, I would have never thought in a million years that she was soooooo DOWN TO EARTH. I have a NEW respect for Mrs. Houston-Brown and Mr. Brown. Nobody is PERFECT, but they are doing a GREAT JOB as being a couple, and Parents. Even though they are RICH, you would never know because of their honesty and integrity of who and what they are. You can feel the Love within their Family. Yes they have arguments, but who doesn't. They Laugh, Eat, I mean really eat good, and seem to be really, really HAPPY!!!! I love this show and I can go on and on and on about the show. I can't wait for the new episodes!!!! If Mr. & Mrs. Brown read this I hope they know that they are bringing Laughter, Love, etc. to millions of people around the world with this Reality show!!!!!! Thank You, Bobby and Whitney for allowing us to see who you really are and being able to Laugh, and understand what really matters. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!
