Guilt Trip: Hitchcock and 'The Wrong Man' (2004)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Peter Bogdanovich, Robert Osborne, Richard Franklin, Richard Schickel, Paul Sylbert and Christopher Husted are interviewed in this 20-minute featurette that takes a look at Alfred Hitchcock's THE WRONG MAN. Bogdanovich, since he was a friend with Hitchcock and interviewed him several times, gets the majority of the running time as he shares a few stories that the director told him. Apparently Hitchcok wasn't overly thrilled with the film but those interviewed here certainly look at it very highly. Bogdanovich talks about how perfect both Henry Fonda and Vera Miles were but also how it contained a certain emotion missing from the director's other films. Even Osborne picks up on this saying that Hitchcock didn't always have someone like Fonda who could reach such strong emotions. Franklin, who directed Miles in PSYCHO II, tells a story she told him about having to go back and forth between Hitchcock and John Ford and this story is very funny. Overall, if you're a fan of THE WRONG MAN then you should certainly enjoy this. At such a short running time you don't get anything too detailed but it does a nice job in giving you some opinions on the film.
